30 September 2006

Breakfast: Aunt Jamama pancakes and sausage, slice of whole wheat bread and peanut butter and a couple of cups of coffee.

Lunch: At "Rick's" in West Pratt: Roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy, mixed veggies of which I recognized some carrots and a big roll. I had either Diet Coke or Diet Pepsi (who could tell them apart at "Rick's"? Actually, I don't recall.)
The meal was grossly adequate but the service a bit poor (a waitress didn't bother coming into work) and Kathie's water was not refilled. We'll not be going back there; this was a one-time "I wonder what they're like? The locals must like it." Sometimes the adage about "it must be good, the locals go there" doesn't hold up and the locals go there because it is the one place to go...)

Dinner: At River City Brewery in inner city Wichita: Two brew pubs beers, a bowl of cheese/broccoli soup, a nice (albeit too much fat) steak, baked potato and two brownies with ice cream and chocolate sauce.

At the bar of the Hotel at Old Town, whilst listening to Patrick play piano and chatting: Three weak gin and tonics and strawberry daquari {sp}.

28 September 2006

Breakfast: Shredded wheat and a cup of coffee plus a slice of whole wheat toast with peanut butter.

I had the trots after my morning pills and coffee and probably too much milk on my shreded wheat. I felt fine when I went for a walk but started getting the stomach rumbling (in a manner of speaking) when I started the walk. I barely made it home and to the toilete...

Why do they call it The Trots when the last thing you want to do is move faster than a walk and you're walking as tight assed as a rictus faced model on the runway?

Lunch: Precooked Roast Beef and frozen mashed potatoes, with the left over gravy soaked into two slices of whole wheat bread and a D.P.

Dinner: Healthy Choice Beef Pot Roast with Gravy/ Apple Cranberry Crisp/ Carrots/ Roasted Potatoes and a can of D.P.

This was quite good. Several weeks ago, I got tired of eatting this and went with other types of good for you food. I think I've gotten tired of these now...

Breakfast: Aunt Jamami pancakes and sausage and a cup of coffee.

Lunch: At Casey's Cowntown: Chicken Fried Chicken, mashed potatoes with white gravy, corn, a fresh warm roll and butter. A glass of diet pepsi that tasted of Dr. Pepper, which I sent back. Then, a glass of what might have been Diet Pepsi and another glass of the same.

NOTE: Maybe they have a new cook at Casey's? The gravy did not taste of onion salt (or was it garlic salt?) and my stomach was not upset afterwards. (It was the next morning but that is probably a different matter...)

Snack: A handfull of peanuts.

Dinner: Healthy Choice Chicken Margherita White Meat Chicken With Angel Hair Pasta & Roasted garlic In Balsamic Vinaigrette Sauce with a can of D.P.

The next morning, my blood sugar level was 142. This is significantly higher than I thought it should be. I'll have to see if I can get it down lower Thursday night for the Friday morning testing. Maybe taking it easy after getting home from an evening shift was a good idea when I started using it a couple of years ago?

Had a glass of ice water at home and a can of D.P.; I couldn't drink any whine (wine! wine!) since I planned on picking Kathie up at the airport around 11 pm.)

About 4 hours later, I started feeling ill so I took a couple of shots of "pink. This didn't help. I realized I had the sympthoms of "I've-gone-to-bed-and-an-hour-later-I'm-going-to-barf". So, I stuck my finger down my throat and the expected result - vomiting - occurred and I immediatly felt better.

I think this simply means I can't eat Italian too soon before bed. Either that or that "garlic butter screwed me up good!

Afterward: From around an hour to two hours after going to bed, I started burping with liquid crap. I finally woke up enough to realize this was unnatural so I went to the head, realizing that I needed to barf. So, I squated over the "Porcinline Godess", stuck my finter down my throat 3 times and felt better afterwards.

Some day, I'll finally realize which food will screw me up later!

Lunch: chieken salad samwhich (about 3/4 the size of the usual samwhich), chips, large choclate chip cooke and ice water and this was only 26 dollars! Such a meal would have cost under $5 at the 14th Street Dillons in town...

Post Dinner: A local beer and then a gin and tonic and a White Russian. Probably too much alcohol but I think they stinted a bit on the booze...

This was the best "deal" we got for our money that day. We'd have been well advised to have stopped at the food court during the day and then we'd not have been so hungry...

Wednesday, September 06, 2006

06 September 2006

Breakfast: Bacon, two fried eggs, two slices of toast and coffee.

Lunch: At Casey's Cowtown: A large hamburger, fries and tow glasses of D.P. (the service was slow on the refill)

Dinner: Homemade beef stew, slow cooked all day, two glasses of a White Zin and two heafty shots of "Pink" (Pepto Bismol) for desert.

I don't know if it was the White Zin that upset my stomach or the grease (olive oil actually) I fried the onions in and browned the breaded beef in. About an hour after eatting, I started feeling sharp pain in the gut. It was severe indigestion. So, I took my dog for a walk in the backyard, walked over to the fense between my house and the vacant house to the north, stuck my finger down my throat and got back a couple of reluctant little barfs. It made me feel better.

I went to bed about 11:15 pm and almost immediately felt a return of the gut pain and acid started coming back up. So, after being unable to find a comfortable sleeping position, I quietly went into the bathroom, stuck my finger down my throat and barfs four times. I thought about trying for a fifth time but for some reason I didn't. (I should have!)

Anyway, after I flushed and washed my hands, my wife wondered into the bathroom and told me I should have gone to bed before now. After all, I had to get up at 5 am. She didn't believe I'd already been in bed about an hour...

Ah, it's charming little details like the above that makes me suspect there is a reason my blog hasn't made it to "blog of note!"

Speaking of red, that was the colour of what was coming up. I sometimes wonder if I've got a bleeding ulser...

4 September 2006

Breakfast: Aunt Jamami pancakes and sausage, coffee and a can of D.P. Also, a slice of bread with peanut butter on one half and Welch’s grape jelly on the other.

Lunch: McDonald's SW Club salad and a can of D.P.
I've a "bone to pick" with the service at the McDonalds:

I got a Mexican clerk who had a bit of trouble with his English. It took a couple of tries to get my order across. When this happened, he walked over to put the first salad into a plastic bag. A couple of Mexican boys (well "youths" in their late teens) walked in. "My" clerk just had to greet them and they chatted for a half minute or so in rapid Mexican. While "my" clerk was putting the first salad into the plastic bag, one of his buddies said something. "My" clerk put the salad back on the shelf and immediately hustled over to get this other boy a glass of ice and water. Only after his compoderie had left did "my" clerk get around to bagging up both my salads. He did fine with getting the salad dressings and the forks and even gave me an extra bag of almonds.

It just irritated me that an unpaying buddy of the clerk would get preferential treatment over a paying customer. Oh, well, "my" clerk probably realizes:

  1. He is just a temporary employee and
  2. I am just another customer who will come back anyway...

One of the old ladies (whom I had bitched to before about screwups with the salads) asked "did he get everything you asked for"? "Yes".

Maybe he wasn't such a bad "crewman" but it bugged me that a walk in buddy would get precedence over an old fart paying customer (me).

Snack: There is just something about eating healthy (well, salads) that leads me to food cravings. This is especially true now that I've got a deadline: I have less than 3 months to get my blood sugar down enough to "get a good score" on my A1C test on 30 Novemeber 2006. It is the knowledge that I have to be strintent with what I eat that is making it hard. Hence, the desire for a "bad" snack.

Anyway, the 14th Street Dillions had sugar free pumkin pies for $2.50 each. I bought one and some "lite" frozen "whipped creame". I ate between a 1/4 and a 1/3 of the pie. I was hungry...

Dinner: Healthy Choice Chicken Broccoli Alfredo Chicken Breast and Broccoli in Alfredo Sauce with Fettuccini Pasta and a can of D.P.

Pre-bed Snack: A piece of punckin {sp} pie and low cal spread and water...

Sunday, September 03, 2006

2 September 2006

Lunch: An Arby's Roast Beef Sandwich and fries and a can of D.P.

Dinner: Healthy Choice Flavor Adventures Chicken Margherita Chicken Breast with Rib Meat, Pasta and Roasted Garlic in a Balsamic Vinaigrette Sauce and a can of D.P.

Pre-bedtime snack: A large hot dog with catsup and mustard and a beer (a Real Michelob Lager!)

1 September 2006

Lunch: Left over meat loaf with boiled cous-cous, boiled broccoli and a couple of cans of D.P.

Snack: For the second day in a row, I felt intense ice cream cravings. I went to Dairy Queen and had a medium "chocolate Sundae".

Dinner: We went to Montana Mike's where I had a 16 oz rib eye steak (took ½ home), a large "loaded" baked potato (took much of it home) and a roll (which I also took about half home). I did eat all my salad and Kathie and I split a piece of chocolate cake.

______When I tested my blood sugar two hours after eating, it was the worst it has been in months: 216! Depressing but then I did eat a lot of potato and that desert. There may be other processes going on but I can't blame "I'm feeling ill". I felt fine!
______Kathie asked me if I wanted a gin and tonic and I said yes. I was feeling stunned by the high score and figure "what the fuck? why not?" and drank it. (There was something in the taste that appealed to me.) Afterwards, I realized that we had used diet tonic water, limes are not carb sources and alcohol is carb neutral. So, I actually did something that made me feel slightly less upset that was also not that harmful for me...
______I'll have to see what score I crank up some Tuesday morning when I do my pre-breakfast test and the 2-hours after dinner test at work...
______We're getting a new hire on 17 October 2006 and I'm wondering if the office secretary -er- "Admin Assistant" will brief her on me or if some other person will mention "Mike is a diabetic" or best of all, she can catch me sitting at my work station doing either a morning or evening blood test. (This desk is slightly hidden by some equipment racks and is marginally "out of sight".)
______Anyway, about an hour after I went to bed, I got up with the urgent need to offload sugar (i.e. take a pee). At 6:25 am, it was the same thing; this time, I didn't get back to sleep. Then, when I got out of bed around 8 am, it was "time to water the Porcelain Flowerpot". (That, of course, is my new euphonium for "taking a pee")
