31 December 2007

Breakfast: A big bowl of cherrios and Splenda plus a cup of coffee.

Lunch: Two slices of balloyna, two little oranges and a container of strawberry yogurt and a can of D.P.

Dinner: Left over beef stew from the other night and two (2) cans of D.P. (I figure that I'll be staying up past midnight to have some "champaign" so I could afford the excess caffine so close (5 hours) to bed.)

Dinner#2: I was still hungry so I had a small bowl of stew. I have enuf left over to have stew again tomorrow night...

Snack: Still hungry, I had a little bag of Austing Cheese Crackers with Peanut Butter and a glass of water. I don't which did it but I'm now feeling a bit sick to my stomack...

We popped the cork off a large bottle of "champaign" and drank three glasses each; we had a lot left over...

30 December 2007

Breakfast: We went out to breakfast at the local truck stop and I had:
  • Two eggs, over medium,
  • a 6oz well cooked hamberger patty,
  • hash browns,
  • two slices of whole wheat toast with grape jelly (always a good tasting but bad choice!) and
  • several cups of decent coffee.

Lunch: Salad with two hard boiled eggs and cottage cheese plus a can of D.P.

Dinner: We went to Montana Mike's for a "you're going to be working nights so this'll be our last night out for a while" [to quote me wife] and I had

  • salad with French dressing,
  • 16 oz Ribeye steak (their "Mountain Momma") and I made sure the waitress knew I wanted medium well and not medium rare (or room temperature, as I swear my steak was done at ...),
  • fully loaded baked potatoe,
  • no veggies...
  • two glasses of "Diet Pepsi" and for desert,
  • this desert consisting of
    • a brownie,
    • vinilla ice creamme,
    • fudge sauce and
    • whipped creamme (not low fat either!)

They gave us my "Diet Pepsi" free since we were in an area with a major cold air draft. It was quite localized and quite cold but we just put our winter coats over us like cloaks (at least I did and Kathie did right before we decided to leave...)

A nice pair of recipies... (muffin meatloaf and potatoes)

This sounds like a nice pair of recipies!

I'll have to try them out. That URL is:

Breakfast: Creamme of wheat, a slice of sour dough bread, a can of D.P. and coffee

Lunch: A container of orange yogurt, a deep fried chicken breast, two little oranges and a can of D.P.

Dinner: Left over turkey, gravy, dressing and smashed mashed potatoes and a can of D.P.

Pre-Bed Snack: One and a half gin-n-tonics...

I don't know if it was the left overs or the gin-n-tonic but something sent me into the bathroom to do the finger-down-the-throat-to-induce vomiting about 2 hours after I went to bed. I don't know if my digestion is going bad on me or if I just can't drink much anymore...

27 December 2007

Pre-Breakfast Snack: A cheese cracker snack thingie and a can of D.P.Lunch: From Sonic, a "toaster-2-burger-cheese samwhich, fries and a large "Diet Pepsi". I had to ask for extra bags of catsup. The woman who brought the food said our request for extra catsup had been honored but she put an additional six (6) bags of catsup in. We ended up with a total of eight (8!) bags of catsup which meant the Sonic management thoguht two (2!) bags of catsup counted as a lot! Wow!!

Breakfast: Jimmy Dean Breakfast Bowls Bacon (Eggs, Potatoes, Bacon &

Cheddar Cheese) and a can of D.P.

26 December 2007

Breakfast: Healthy Choice® Cafe SteamersTM
Chicken Margherita (White Meat Chicken Withy Angwel Hair Pasta &
Roasted Garlic In Balsamic Vinaigrette Sauce), a can of D.P., slice of
coffee cake and coffee.

Lunch: A low fat strawberry yogurt, a very small amount of creamy cole slau and water.

Dinner: Leftovers:

  • turkey,
  • mashed potatoes (made with sour creamme!),
  • dressing,
  • gravy,
seconds of the above and
  • pumpkin pie with low fat "Cool whip" and
  • a coffee cup of White Zin with dinner!
I had thought of having eggnog with rum but from the way my stomach felt, I thought that would be a very bad idea.

It was...

Knowing that "Pink" (Pepto Bismol) prevented me from vomiting the last time I felt ill when going to bed, I drank a goodly slug of the stuff. It didn't have the usual rumbling effect however but I didn't worry about that. About an hour or so after getting to sleep, I started feeling the usual pre-symthoms:

  • liquid coming up into my mouth and
  • occasional coughing and
  • finally, a feeling that I was going to "blow chunks" soon...
So, I did the inevitable. I went into the bathroom, stuck my finger down my throat once and the vomiting started! (That one throat tickle was good for three "up Charlies -er- "Chucks". I still didn't feel much better so I did the "tickle routine" one more time for one more "display"...

I sometimes wonder if the
uvula
has any purpose other than to make it easier to vomit?

The amazing thing is how much liquid comes up. I have to think that my body is investing a lot of bodily fluids in digesting and it all goes down the toilet.

So, why don't I just drink some water?

Historically speaking, drinking water at night nearly always stuffs up my nose...

This is a bad thing.

Anyway, I felt a one-time-return to the sympthoms about an hour after "blowing chunks" but it quickly went away and I slept fine. Oddly enuf, I wasn't any more thirsty at 3:27 am (on the 27th), when I made and drank my first coffee of the "new work day". (This cup of rather poorly made instant coffee was my first shot of liquids since before I'd gone to bed the night before...)

Here is a lovely quote from the wikipedia article:

Universal Emetic

Patients that suffer from bulimia nervosa, an eating disorder, tend to take the uvula to their advantage. Massaging the uvula causes the gag reflex to initate and expell stomach contents.* Massaging the uvula is the universal alternative to ipecac, but should not be practiced as it can result in damage to the lining of the esophagus and other long term health problems such as rotting of the teeth and gums.

"No shit, Sherlock?"

There is something about the way this photo was taken that reminds me of a different area of the body (in a manner of speaking). It reminds me of a so-called private part of a woman'.

23 December 2007

Breakfast:

Lunch: A really large hamberger from a slab o' hamberger that Kathie hand formed and a can of Campbell's tomatoe soup and a can of D.P.

Snack: Bag of popcorn and a large "Diet Pepsi" at the local theater (and Kathie thinks that I pee a lot is simply a sign of my being a diabetic...)

Dinner: A nice and large roast, potatoes and carrots boiled with the meat and gravy. I drank water...

Pre-Bed Snack:

22 December 2007

Breakfast: An All American breakfast wrap and a can of D.P.

Snack: Several dinner rolls

Lunch: At McDonalds for a:

  • Double Quarter Pounder without cheese (it had cheese anyway),
  • "French" fries,
  • Diet Coke without ice.
So, were there problems? Oh, yeah!
  • The hamberger came with cheese ,
  • the "French" fries were limp, cold and bad.
I spilled the "Diet Coke" when I put the tray onto the table. They (the store owner) gave me a free refill anyway. I tipped the fellow who cleaned up after me ($1); he earned it!
We haven't eatten a berger meal at MaccyDee in years and it will be even more years before we expect to go back...

Dinner: Lazanna (from a pan of the frozen shuff) and a glass of water.

Pre-Bed Snack: Gin-n-tonic...

Lunch: A small container of strawberry yogurt, two little oranges and a peanut butter samwhich and a can of D.P.

Dinner: Home made tuna noodle casserrol with a lot of extra cheese and a glass of water.

This turned out to be a good meal choice as my 2-hour-past-eatting blood sugar was not only good but was better than my I-just-woke-up score this morning!

Pre-Bed Snack: a gin and tonic..

20 December 2007

Breakfast: A McDonald's "Large" Breakfast, which consisted of

Breakfast: Breakfast: An A and W breakfast burrito and what appeared to be shredded potatoes (which demanded lots of catsup!) and a glass of what might have been "Diet Pepsi" mixed with a bit of "Diet Root Beer" and something else. We could not tell.

I went there after working out at the Sheridan Center (walking on the track, actually...) and I don't think we'll be going back for breakfast there again...

Lunch: We had our office Christ Mass party and lunch was:

  • mashed potatoes,
  • turkey,
  • dressing,
  • gravy,
  • two rolls,
  • two small pieces of pumpkin pie and

Also, two cans of D.P. I carefully did not let myself obsess on my A1C score of:

Dinner: We went to the , which is the restaurant at the "Dodge House". Kathie had high hopes for this place. After all, some of her co-workers had liked their lunch a week or so before. On the other hand, a friend of ours complained of very poor and very slow service and inferior food. Another couple agree with this negative opinion. We decided to check it out...

Unfortunately, we have to go with the negative opinion...

We arrived about 5:50 pm and entered. We began waiting to be seated. That only took about four minutes.

It was after 6 before we got waited on. We did not order from a waiter; we had to order drinks from the woman who seated us. She had no idea which white wines they had so Kathie order3ed a gin-n-tonic.

About 6:05 pm to 6:10 pm, a waiter arrived and we ordered an onion ring.

About 6:18 pm, "our" waiter finally arrived to take our order. (I say "our" with irony because he was putting his time in on dealing with a large group.) I ordered a 16 oz Prime Rib, done medium, baked potatoe with everything that comes on a baked potatoe, French dressing [on my salad] and more water.

Kathie ordered much the same but with the 14oz Prime Rib.

About 6:35, Kathie commented that the waiter seemed to be "taking the long way around to avoid us" and I think she was right! "Our" waiter seemed to be trying to avoid us.

About 6:42 pm (roughly), we finally got our salads. Then, a couple of minutes later, we got the onion ring. It was quite good.

At 6:50 pm, "our" waiter wondered back over and Kathie askeed "where is our dinner? Have they lost our order?" "Our" waiter said "no".

About 6:50 to 6:55 pm, "our" waiter finally arrived with our dinners. The waiter handed me Kathie's Prime Rib and vice versa. I had to tell him to switch the plates (he still had Kathie's plate on his hand).

The outside rim of my Prime Rib was done and the meat was warm to the touch but the fucking thing was clearly very rare. I was pissed and thought of sending it back. However, I have heard too many stories of potatoes disappearing when the properly cooked steak is properly cooked. Then, too, I was hungry and had eatten most of the Prime Rib by the time "our" waiter came back.

I showed the steak to "our" waiter and said "does this look like rare to you?"

He said "yes".

I replied "well, it's supposed to be medium!"

"Oh."

I do not recall '"our" watier offereing to have my steak properly cooked...

We told "our" waiter that we didn't hold this very slow service against him. "Our" waiter repleid that the main cook was "out sick" and the replacement cook "didn't really know what he was doing". We agree and I bitched to the woman who seated us.

She asked us "did you send it back?"

I replied "no, given how slow the service was, I had no idea how long it would have taken!"

Breakfast: Marie Callender's ® Salt -er- Country Fried Pork Chop with Cheddar Bacon Mashed Potatoes, Gravy & Vegetables and a can of D.P.

Lunch: Long Dong John Slver's for their "Number four" (fish "planks", chicken "planks", insipic French Fries, a very small about of decent cole slau and a large "Diet Pepsi without ice". TGhat drink came with a huge amount of ice. I'd like to see what I would have gotten iff'n I'd asked for "extra ice, please".

Snack: A piece of that choclate silk pie and I felt much better so I think I've been slightly hypoglysemic today...

Dinner: We bought a "we-make-it-you-cook-it" pizza at Wally World. My "side" was all meat and tasted good. I drank an MGD and later had a gin-n-tonic. A couple of hours later, I woke up thinking I was going to barf. As I was getting out of bed, my wife told me to take some "Pink" (Pepto Bismol). That shit really worked well and I kept dinner down...

Breakfast: Left over Spaghetti and two (2) cans of D.P.
I'm a little pissed off that our precious and latest version of "Word" was absolutely useless in finding the spelling of "Spaghetti"! I had to go on-line and Goodle for the spelling! Bummer!!
It also irritates me that a proper noun (and a name no less!), "Google", is being used as a verb! What is happening to the state of written English in this country besides cultural illiterates on TV???

South BeachTM Diet "All American" Breakfast Wrap and a cup of coffee.

Lunch:
Burger King Angus Burger, fries and a large "Diet Coke with no ice (which meant it only had a small amount of ice...).

Dinner:
Homemade spegethie sauce and a loaf of "French Bread" (baked from dough from a tube) and water (I couldn't find a bottle of MGD). I had a very, very good blood sugar level: 129!

My spegethie sauce recipie:
  • two pounds of 80/20% hamberger (meat/fat),
  • three cans of spegethie sauce,
  • a couple of table spoons of brown sugar,
  • "Italian" seasoning and
  • some pepper.

I bought a largish "choclate silk pie" from a local "PTO" (Parent Teacher Organization) at a local "Middle School" (read "Junior High" for us old farts...). It was horribly rich and quite good and I seriously must either take it to work or ask Kathie to take to her work so that I'll be spared the temptation of eatting it. After all, I have a

hanging over my head...
I had some bad reactions to my dinner...

Before I had the pie, I was feeling stuffed and knew that I should blow chunks. It seems my stomach does not empty very quickly or efficiently these days. I was in bed from about 7:30 pm to about 9:40 when I realized it wasn't getting any better. So, I went to the bedroom bathroom, put my finger down my throat and several barfs later, I felt a whole lot better.

The second thing was more subtle: my younger cat was sleeping at the end of the bed where my feet should normally be. I didn't want to bother her so I tried sleeping "kitty corner" and that just hurt my legs and lower back. I took a couple of (anti-)pain pills. That didn't really help. I then put on some Ben Gay and it burned a lot and that pain hid the pain of the back.

I finally had enough about 10:25 pm and moved the silly cat. Pain ended and I actually got to sleep before Kathie came to bed.

Tomorrow night (actually tonight as I'm writing this on the 15th), the cat will be moved should she be in the way of my feet...

6 December 2007 or "Vomit early and avoid the rush!"

How was dinner? To paraprhase Vir Koto "It tasted good going down but not so good coming back up..." Yup! That was my dinner!

Breakfast: Jimmy Dean Breakfast Bowls Sausage (Eggs, Potatoes, Sausage & Cheddar Cheese) and a bag of Cheese-Its plus a can of D.P. and a cup of two of coffee...

Snack:Six little Oreo cookies and coffee...

Lunch: An "origional" Burger King chicken samwhich, large fries and a "Diet Coke, no ice please..." It tasted quite adequate.

Dinner:Cheese and Broccoli Chicken

Soup
and chunks of baked "French Bread". I bought a can of "French Bread" and baked it before eatting dinner.

The soup tasted fine the first several spoonfuls but then it started to taste like something was off. That could not be true, I had used fresh ingredients, clean cooking pots and flatware and had not undercooked it. (i.e. the chicken was well and truly done, well boiled) I had seconds because
  1. I was the cook and
  2. I was hungry
  3. and I didn't want to wake up hungry the next moring (I did anyway...)

I washed the dishes, feeling more and more sick to my stomach as time passed. So, I said the magic phrase my wife loves to hear:

"I'll walk the dog."

I then took my dog outside, insured the two back doors were locked (they were, of course) and went to the fence on the north side of the yard. (We have no neighbors there.)

I proceded to stick my finger down my throat three times and barfed over the fence onto the "neighbor's" yard. I could tell my body wasn't quite ready for vomiting as it took some effort to trigger my gag relex; on the other hand, I could easily tell that I would have woken up with vomit in my mouth had I not done this before going to bed...

My wife hates it when I vomit.

As I was drifing off, I found myself composing "vomiting songs". The only two of these "wonderful" lyrics I can rememger are:

"Putting your finger down your throat ain't so hardbarfing in the neighbor's yard...
If you like irony, consider that I was reading a "foodie" article ("San Sebastian on Six Meals a Day") on Slate before I decided to update this (on the 7th. I went back to the article and realized that most of the food the author thought was wonderful would be stuff that I wouldn't have touched...

Pictures of soup being made...

There is something mysterious about the sight of a closed pan. Is this dinner being cooked or simply a closed pan?

Here is "French-Bread-from-a-can" being a cooked.

Bread ready to be torn into pieces, "buttered" and eatten!

This is melted butter with flour mixed in and the mess cooked.

Here is the water, bouillon cubes, chicken, broccoli, salt and pepper, mixed and being cooked.

Here is the flour mixture being blended into the soup.

Another shot of the above blended ingredients.

Finally, I was now blending in the creamme.

05 December 2007

Breakfast: Left over "stewed" chicken and rice from last night and two (2!) cans of DP and some coffee (very small amount). Oh and a couple of choclate chip cookies that I made last night...

Conference-at-work-snack:
A dognut. Prior to an office conference about ten years ago, one of my co-workers sent an email to the office at about 4 am and he meant to say "I'll bring a fine selection of donuts" but said "I'm bring a fine selection of dognuts"...

Oops and yes, I've screwed up far worst at the time of the morning...

Lunch: At Casey's Cowtown:

  • Chicken Fried Chicken with white gravy,
  • mashed potatoes,
  • roll and butter,
  • a small bowl of cottage cheese with a slice of tomotoe (vice some green veggie) and
  • two smallish glasses of "Diet Pepsi".

Dinner: Tuna noodle casserol (composed of
  • expensive tuna fish,
  • lots of boiled noodles,
  • a couple of handfulls of grated sharp cheddar cheese and
  • crushed "Lays Origional Potatoe Chips"
and to "wash" it down with, a bottle of Real Beer: MGD! (none of that "light" or "lite" dog piss for me!!!)

Desert: A Muselnix decongestant tablet but I didn't need to use the inhalior. Ah, you probably thought I was talking about something decadent to eat, desert wise...

Breakfast: Aunt Jemima pancakes and sausage, coffee and a can of D.P.

Snack with movie: Popcorn and a couple of chunks of dark choclate.

Next snack: Some sour dough bread with Tillamock sharp cheddar cheese melted on it and a can of D.P.

Lunch: Subway samwhich meatball and a glass of "Diet Coke" or "Diet Pepsi".

Snack: At the American Red Cross Blood drive: A bowl of "potatoe soup" (actually a brouth with chunks of cooked potatoe in it), lots of carrots and two cups of coffee (and a glass of water)

Dinner: We went to the Ulysses Kansas Lions Club meeting (I've forgotten which restraunt) for their Christmas Dinner. Kathie was the speaker so we ate free and we ate

  • a nice salad,
  • small amount of turkey,
  • scoup of mashed potatoes with gravy,
  • scoup of dressing,
  • a very small bite of sweet potatoes (not as bad as I feared it would be),
  • a roll with butter (a very large roll),
  • a little bit more of roll,
  • samll slice of pumpkin pie and little scoup of whippted creamme and
  • a couple of glasses of water!

It was a nice meal.

02 December 2007

Breakfast: Cremme of wheat, part of a large chunk of sour dough bread toasted in the oven (part fell through the grill and onto the heating element...) and coffee.

Lunch: A nice SirLoin steak, baked potatoe, boiled broccoli, a couple of little pieces of fudge and a can of D.P.

Snack, ill advised!: I went to Dairy Queen to get a choclate milk shake; I had origionally thought of a vinilla cone dipped in choclate but decided this was too risky to eat on the way to work; I did not want to spill it on me! When I got up to the window, they handed me the ice creamme cone I'd thought of. I said "I wanted a choclate milk shake! The girl looked abashed; it was late and I didn't want to be late to work so I said "I'll take that anyway. Also, I didn't want to go through the hassle of trying to return my change and pay for the choclate milk shake they would then have to make me. I now have a better idea of why some folks seems to take forever at the drive up window: they're waiting for their screwed up orders to be made right!

Dinner: Healthy Choice® Cafe Steamers Chicken MCargherita (White Meat chicken With ANgel Hair Pasta & Roasted Garlic In Balsamic Vinaigrette Sauce) and a can of D.P.

Breakfast: We went out to breakfast. I had one of the two "specials":
  • patty sausage,
  • two eggs over medium,
  • real hash browned potatoes (not the fried mashe potatoes I had the other day!),
  • whole wheat toast with grape jelly and
  • several cups of decent coffee and a glass of ice water.

Lunch:
Something quick and bad for me. I fried some corned beef and put it between two slices of hand sliced sour dough bread, with mustard and a can of D.P. I also had a can of Campbell's Tomatoe soup.

Dinner:
A Hunbgry-Man (1 lb) Classic Fried Chicken (White & Dark Chicken Pieces with Mashed Potatoes, Corn adn a Brownie) and a can of D.P. I know that I should have had something good for me but I've eatten so many "good for me" meals lately and have little to show for them. So, fuck it! I'm going with "bad for me" tonight and I'll get "back on the wagon" tomorrow...
