30 August 2011

Breakfast: wheaties with a banana and coffee

Snack: banana and yet more coffee...

Lunch: the last of the left over beef stew and a can of PEPSI ONE.

Dinner: We went to Montana Mikes and I had
  • salad with French Dressing (our waitress brought the wrong dressing and had the integrity to admit her error and bring out a second salad with the correct dressing; I took this second salad home with me)
  • 22 oz steak (ate half and will finish this off with breakfast tomorrow)
  • large baked potatoe (ate about ¾ of this and will take the rest to breakfast tomorrow)
  • a couple of glasses of iced water
We wanted desert but they didn't have the brownies needed for the "Rocky Mountain" desert (brownie, vin ice creamme, whipped creamme and fudge syrup) or the slice of chocolate cake. The chocolate cake could have been made elsewhere and shipped in with their weekly resupply yesterday. For that matter, the brownies could have been shipped in frozen. They like to bake the brownies at the Montana Mikes and that would explain the times the brownies were burned or overcooked.

We had a new waitress; she said it was her second shift. The young lady came here from a places in Hays, where she had been well trained. She did all the things the hospitality class Kathie took said a waitress/waiter should do. She came to our table within a minute of our being seated. (This was not the sometimes up to 10 minute waits to receive menus that we've gotten used to.) She came around to check our water, ask if Kathie wanted another drink, to see how our meals were.

The big item was she asked us if we wanted desert or wanted to get the check. This is what hospitality 101 preaches; we've been to places in town so many times where they do not ask "do you want desert". The waiter/waitress either drops off the bill, almost in passing, or tells us they will be our cashier and hands us the bill. It is as if they don't want to sell us desert. Sometimes, I ask for the desert menu, just to be ornery (I don't usually order) or we just leave in a grumpy-at-the-waiter mood. Then I note this down in my daily food notes.

Our waitress apologized for the lack of desert. We told her it was not her fault.

This waitress was the 2nd best we've had in town. The first best is Karla at Casey's Cowtown. There are so many poorly trained waiters/waitress in town that need to be brought up to speed (or to get other jobs). It makes going to restaurants in other towns every better experiences.

Snack: I had symptoms of hypoglycemia so I ate 6 little Oreo cookies
(and felt crappy in other ways!) and more coffee

Lunch: some cold left over stew (the office microwave crapped out...)

Dinner: Healthy Choice meatloaf with mashed potatoes, brown gravy, corn
and apple crisp.

Breakfast: cheerios, a banana and coffee

Snack: a banana

Lunch: boiled chicken and boiled potatoes and a bottle of Diet Pepsi

Snack: We went to Garden City Kansas and went to Target. I bought a small chocolate mocha latte and two chocolate covered graham crackers. I liked my cracker but Kathie wasn't happy with the one I gave her...

Dinner: we had seasoned beef, re-fried beans, chopped up tomatoes from our garden, cheese and salsa on tortilla shells and water. After dinner, we drank a couple of glasses each of a decent champagne*. This is something we do maybe once a year and generally only on our anniversary...

*Technically, a "sparkling wine" as this stuff never got within a thousand miles of the Champagne Providence of France... ;-)

24 August 2011

Breakfast: left over spaghetti and a 20oz bottle of Diet Pepsi

Snack: a couple of pieces of chocolate cake I baked last night

Lunch: at Casey's Cow. town, two bar-b-que ribs, corn, cottage cheese and iced water

Snack: a mocha latte that didn't seem to have any chocolate in it and a "biscotte" (that really sucked!)

Dinner: We went to the Boot Hill casino restaurant for dinner. The food was fine, the service sucked! At first, "our" waiter was being accompanied by a trainer waitress (who looked terminally bored). The waiter was slow, didn't come by our often and had to be reminded to bring our drinks. He brought out the rolls after we got salads from the salad bar. He brought out the meals before he brought out the water and Kathie's red wine.

When I was getting a salad, I saw another customer getting soup. I said "what is that"? Instead of answering, he pointed to a label that gave some name. I could not read it since it was around a corner of a pipe. He didn't need to be an asshole about the way he "answered" my question. He finally muttered what it was and commented the chilli looked too hot. Probably was...

We went on a Wednesday because that was prime rib night. I had:
  • salad (aforementioned)
  • prime rib, medium
  • baked potatoe with butter and sour creamme
  • split a piece of chocolate cake with Kathie
  • and iced water ("our" waiter eventually got around to doing that fill the water glass thing...)

7 August 2011

Breakfast: Kathie's Big Breakfast of:
  • scrambled eggs,
  • well cooked bacon,
  • Seri Lee coffee cake and
  • bacon
It was fine and enough food for me; my dog didn't think I gave him enough of my breakfast though...

Lunch: a beef pot pie and some Diet Pepsi in the bottle

Snack: I harvested a tomatoe from our garden. Part of the bottom had not formed properly as it had apparently been resting on the ground. I wiped the mud onto my trousers (they were dirty anyway :-[  ), cut the bottom off the tomatoe and rinsed it off very well. We both thought it was quite good!

There is something about tomatoes fresh from the garden that make them so much better tasting than those gotten in a store. I'm willing to eat the garden fresh tomatoes but not those that spent time in transit and then time in the store...

Dinner: roast pork (from Dillions) over mashed potatoes (also from Dillions) and a banana...

I ate this quite late since we were working severe.

6 August 2011

Breakfast: at Burger King for
  • two little scrambled egg, potatoe disk and cheese wraps
  • potatoe disks
  • coffee
I went to the Community Gardens(Junior College) whee I watered my plants. I was feeling wea and simply tired. After getting home, I checked my blood sugar and it was 105!  As this a shockingly low figure. It meant that I was ni, what is for me, hypoglycemia!  So, I ate some snack chips and that helped a bit. Technically, they were not what I needed to take for hypoglycemia but they were what I had.

I bought some dark choclatge latger and a square (about 1" by 1") fixed nme right up. (This jacked my blood sugar and reveals Hershe's extra dark chocolae to be a threat!

Lunch: at "Bad Habits", where we had
  • cheese sticks (which arrived less than a minute before our meals)
  • hamburger
  • home made french fries
  • "Diet Pepsi"
The food was fine but the service was absolutely horrible!
  • We waited about 8 minutes before calling over to the bar our drinks. (We were seatged about 12 feet from the bar.) tghe bar tender bruoght them over.
  • When we finally got a waitress, we told her what we wanted and that we watned cheese sticks as an appitizer. We got the cheese sticks lerss than a minute before the main couorse came out.
  • We werre bot almost done with our merals and had not seen "our' wsaitress. Our drinks were empty when I flagged anotgher passing waitress and she brought replacement drinks. I didn't hold it against her that she brought me an iced tea with too much ice instead of the "Diet Pepsi, no ice" tghat I had ordered. She brought me a "Diet Pepsi, with ice" and I simply drank it.
  • My wife gave "our" waitress a tip too large. She had notg earned it.(I wsuppose it was busy in ghere but other folks were getting service. What didn't we?)
Dinner: one of my favourite throw together meals: precooked beef over pre-made mashed potatoes  (This was a Kroger "braised beef pot roast and gravy with red skinned mashed potatoes, carrots [? there were?] and onions". For desert, the left over popcorn from last night...

3 August 2011

Breakfast: homemade SOS on chopped up sour dough bread (2 slices) and coffee

My homemade SOS recipe was stolen from an Army recipe that I read in the past couple of weeks. The computer this recipe was on croaked so I remembered it as:
  • 1 pound of well browned hamburger
  • a heaping tablespoon of flour (to which I added ground black pepper)
  • 2½ cups of milk with
  • 1 tablespoon of Worcester Sauce (I didn't have this so I used a squirt of Kik-O-Man...)
I mixed the flour mix with the hamburger, stirred in the the milk mixture and heated it till the gravy thickened. I had left over so I think I'll have it over fresh boiled potatoes or maybe grits tomorrow.

Lunch: at Mike Casey's, a bar-b-que sandwich and large scoop of potatoe salad and water. This was the first day of having the same meal provided to all the Lions; it seemed to work well and the price was fine...

Dinner: Marie Callender's Meat Lasagna (with Ricotta & MOzzarella Cheeses in Hearty Marinara Sauce) with cold water

I felt sick to my stomach several minutes after finishing this but I suspect I have been a bit under the weather lately. Tomorrow night, I think I'll go with a sandwich, veggies (carrots) and a piece of fruit.

 30 Tue   ---   ---
 31 Wed   ---   ---

At the advise of my diabetes educator, I did multiple tests on the 22nd, 25th and 27th. The test results for the 22nd were:
    am 146
4 pm  324       I seriously question the validity of this reading as it was the old meter with (possibly) old test stripes
   pm  140

Then, multiple tests on the 22nd

  802 am  117
1050 am  158
 203 pm  136
 404 pm  123

 513 pm
96
 940 pm
156

In an episode of "Babylon 5", one character said "I'm Russian; we always question good news and never question bad news." [or words to that effect]  Thus, I question the 96 but don't question the 158 or 156...

Finally, the extra test on the 27th:

            am 128
pre-dinner 113
            pm 118
