The Santa Fe Trail Association symposium sponsored a trail breakfast. This was a couple, re-enactments, who go around the country with a cattle drive cook wagon and cook food in the old style. That is, the hamburger and sausage were cooked over a wood fire and then the SOS was cooked over one of the two wood fires. I had SOS on biscuits at Burger King yesterday and barely finished it; this SOS on biscuits was so good I went back for seconds!
There was just something about eating food cooked over a wood fire in an outdoors setting that was so much nicer than Burger King.
Lunch: We went to Montana Mikes and I had:
- we split an order of onion rings (actually, the order came so close to our meals coming out that we took nearly all of the onion rings home with us...)
- salad with French Dressing (I had ordered Thousand Island...)
- a rib eye steak medium rare (I had ordered medium...)
- baked potato with everything on it (this came along just fine!)
- rolls and butter (I used about ½ of one to sop up meat juices) and
- a glass of "Diet Pepsi", no ice The first glass was fine. Then, I asked for a refill and it came back very weak; they were basically running out of syrup and the waitress said "we're out of syrup"...
Dinner: a box of marie Callender's Meat Lasagna and iced water plus a small Oreo cookie. (I will have something better for dinner tomorrow night...)
Then, several more as post dinner snacks...
