9 March 2006
Snack: I can resist anything except temptation! (The right kind of temptation...) They had an office luncheon and I couldn't resist the French Vinilla Ice Cream with the extra dark Hershe's suroyp. I had a coffee cup of this. Well, I try to resist temptation but my diabetes coach acknowledges that sometimes one can give into temptation as long as one then returns to "proper living" (and cuts other meals to compensate for the "unnecessary" carbs. That's the part I fail at...)
Dinner: Healthy Choice Chicken Broccoli Alfredo and Diet Pepsi (what else?)
Pre-bed snack (those Healthy Choice meals don't last): Some left over rice pilof and a coffee cup (mostly full) of Franzia Vinter Select White Zinfandel. (it comes in such a lovely box!)

7 March 2006
Lunch: Home made stew made of left over chicken, sirlon steak and boneless pork chops, chopped tomatoes, carrots, chopped potatoes, a samll onion, rice to "soak up" some of the juice [no much as it turned out] and seasoned with pepper, a pinch of chilli powder, chopped garlic and boiled in a quart of beef broth and a cup of red whine. (My wife was pissed that I'd taken the red whine she'd planned on drinking after dinner. Oh, well...)
Dinner: Dinner: A 16 ounze steak, large baked potato with cheese and sour cream, preceed (but just barely) by a salad with French dressing. This was at "Momtana Mike's" and the only drink they day without either caffine or sugar and which tasted worth drinking was ice water with extra slices of lemon in it.
Sad but true and at least they didn't charge for the "ice water with extra lemon slices.
I did order a slice of choclate cake to go (got into an argument with my wife over that as we're trying to lose weight before our late May annual physical. This annual physical includes the dreaded annual weighin and I get another frigging A1C...)
If we can't be good for goodness sake, we can at least try to be good for the sake of showing progress on losing weight and (for me) reducing my A1C...
Oh, well...

6 March 2006
Snack: Some well boiled steak and pork; the rest is in the crock pot. It will make for a nice lunch tomorrow. Oh, yeah 1/2 whole wheat baggle with breakfast and 1/2 whole wheat baggle right before heading off for lunch...
Dinner: We visited the Ranson Kansas Lions club, which actually met at the Ranson VFW Hall. The meal was meatballs in a cheese sauce, nicely made mashed potatoes, home made fried chicken and a nice piece of cake for desert. I was worried that I'd have an excessive blood sugar the next morning but it was only 111; I guess I had a lot more meat than carbs...
5 March 2006
Lunch: chicken and rice pilof and aspargius and 2 cans Diet Pepsi.
Dinner: Arby's French dip and onion "flower"
Saturday, March 04, 2006
4 March 2006
Lunch: Another frigging salad and a bowl of chicken soup.
Dinner: crock pot "stewed" chicken stew (chicken, potatoes, various veggies)
3 March 2006
Lunch: Brunch bar at the Rat (what we call KFC). Several pieces of extra crispy chicken (breast, two legs and a wing), mashed potatoes mixed with cottage cheese, biscuit with honey on it and no desert (they didn't have apple cobbler...). Oh, yes, a large Diet Pepsi or was it a large Diet Coke? Sometimes,it is hard to tell them apart...
Yesterday, I was dismayed by a friend telling me about his binging on booze and nearly killing myself. Today, I also "binged" but what I "binged" on doesn't kill right off. I think of the song with the lyrics "one bourbon, one scotch, one beer" and "I ain't seen my baby since...". Well, the KFC was my "one bourbon, one scotch, one beer" and my "baby" was sitting across the table from me. To continue with this metaphor, "my baby" was knocking back "one whiskey, one scotch, [and] one beer" with me. A couple of cycles of this (we both went for seconds).
Then, she said "we're going to eat salads" and that was a reference to needing to lose weight before our annual physicals in late May. I won't be harsh on her, she had to endure an insurance "mini-physical" from an insurance company nurse just before lunch. This nurse's scale suggested that Kathie gained a lot of weight. She may have but I damned sure did not tell her this! (I'm been married why tolong to do something that moronic!) I changed the subject.
Dinner: Healthy Choice Beef Pot Roast. Tastes fairly good.
I just watched a co-worker eating peas straight from the can. There was something faintly nauseating about the sight.
It reminded me of an event in 1982, when I was an Ensign (US Navy). We were given C rations to eat. These C rats were Korean War vintage and had been manufactured in 1950; the year before I was born. I slurped down a can of "scrambled eggs" and realized that one of my Chief Petty Officers was watching me with an odd expression. I was still hungry so when this CPO offered me his can of "scrambled eggs", I thanked him and wolfed them down. I finally realized why my Chief was looking so strange. He was nauseated.
It was rather funny, I must admit.

2 March 2006
Lunch: Three hard shell taco supremes and part of a taco salad from Taco Time. (The "salad" had virtually no lettuse and must have been the "diet plate" since it had maybe a 1/5th the amount of ingredients they did less than a year ago (as I recall...).
Post lunch: I was invited to read Dr. Souse stories to a bunch of kindergarden students. I got to the elementary school early and was invited to snack at the teacher's lounge. I had a bierot and a brownie and a little bit of choclate cake.Dinner: Hungry Man Boneless Chicken (with mashed potatoes and a brownie). I also had a couple of cans of Diet Pepsi.I frigging binged in other words. Then, I felt ill most of the afternoon. It could have been from excessive blood sugar (I felt thirst after drinking water and coffee) or it could have been a reaction to the Taco Time. (This would definitely not be the first time that has happened!!!
) I have a friend, a recovering alcoholic who thought he had beaten the alcoholism; he thought he could control the drinking. He couldn't. He started drinking again, decided that some "whiskey would taste good" (a sentiment I purely do not comprehend!) and ended up drinking so much he was taken by ambuliance to hospital. The MDs there told him the next day "we don't understand why you weren't comatose!"
Wow! The man nearly drank himself to death!
He told me he was going to do all those things the remorseful feel after truly fucking up; I've heard those words coming from my own mouth so I know how it feels from the inside and I also know the abstonance will end and the resolve will fail!!! I probably should not have told him that but then I don't want to attend his funeral...
I too live in a glass house.
Well, we'll see what today's food binging did to my blood surar when I test tomorrow morning.
It was 108; for me, a very low score. Who can understand this diabetics crap???

1 March 2006
Lunch: Large Hamberger, fries and Diet Pepsi at Casey's Cowtown.
Dinner: Healthy Choice "Mesquite Chicken BBQ" and a Diet Pepsi. Then, two bananas and a small bag of Cheetos. (I was hungry after the Healthy Choice meal.)
A Snack...I had an old favourite, piece of bread with catsup on it...
