Breakfast: at the hotel, an omlette with ham, bacon, sausage, saluaed
onions and cheddar cheese.

Lunch: at this nice chicken place in Abiline Kansas, we had fried chicken,
mashed potatoes, creamme corn, light brown gravy, cole slaw, scoup of home
made vinialla ice creamme and three glasses of "Diet Pepsi".

Dinner: at the Boot Hill Casino Restaurant, I had a largish hamburger (1/2

Someone should do a double blind test to see if anyone can tell if they are
serving light beer or "ultra" and if the customers can tell what they are
drinking...

I felt ill from the late afternoon on and I'm wondering if it was something I ate for lunch or if my blood sugar is really off? With a 2-hours-past-finishing dinner of 224, I think I really am ill tonight. I'll have to check the blood again tomorrow and see if it goes down any when I am (I hope!) feeling better.

16 January 2011

Breakfast: a kind of scrambled eggs, whose recipe I got from the Daily Globe. This was taken from a column written by an Amish woman (called the Amish Cook). As I recall, the recipe was

 • 5 eggs
 • 1 cup milk
 • 1 heaping tablespoon flour
 • 1 teaspoon salt
 • "pepper to taste"
Mix the ingredients in a large bowl, then pour into a well greased skillet. Put a tight lid on the skillet and put over "medium heat. When half done, take the lid off", quarter the cooking eggs mixture, turn them over and finish cooking.

The cook did not say
 • if this was supposed to be baked or cooked on the stove,
 • didn't say how long it would take to cook or
 • how to tell when the meal was done.
I gave it about 8 minutes per side and checked how done it looked.

I'm thinking this somewhat bland meal could be spiced up with
 • sauteed onion and
 • sauteed garlic and
 • chunks of ham and
 • maybe light cream vice milk?

Lunch: we had brots boiled in beer with green peppers and onions and iced water

Dinner: I had a "Healthy Choice" beef pot roast dinner with iced water

14 January 2011

type 2 for 6 years, 8 months, 8 days...
Breakfast: wheaties and coffee

Snack: a bierock (hamburger) and coffee

Lunch: a Healthy Choice meal (meatloaf) and a bottle of Diet Pepsi

Dinner: We went to the Miriah Hills Restaurant and I had:
 • salad with French dressing
 • ½ of an order of Mozzarella sticks
 • a 16 oz rib-eye steak done medium
 • baked potatoe with sour creamme and butter (I asked for more butter and got a little container of melted butter vice a chunk and that was a very nice touch!)
 • two bottles "Coors Original" (this was one of the very rare occasions when I was the "Designated Drinker" vice the "Designated Driver"
The food was excellent and the only problem I had was the steak was not cooked to "medium" but to "medium rare". This often happens when Kathie and I both order steak; the cooks put both on and they both come out "medium rare". I probably should have bitched to the owner (Ham) but didn't feel like it.

Our waiter was on his 3rd night working there so we decided to cut him some slack (also, Kathie knows him from work...). He kept forgetting to bring my water (I like more than a beer with dinner!) and started to pick up my plate after I asked for a box to take the left overs home in. The cheese sticks and salad was enough that I could not finish my steak and baked potatoe; I intended to take it home and did not want the restaurant to shit can my leftovers. After all, if I didn't eat that left over steak, my dog would surely eat it!

On a different issue, why is that local restaurants can't seem to get it through their heads that some of don't like diet -er- light/lite/Ultra beers and want a real beer such as:
 • Mic Lager
 • Coors Original
 • Fosters Lager
 • Henry Weinharts Private Reserve and even
 • A Bud Lager
It must be a sign of the times?

8 January 2011

My life changed radically 7 May 2004 or 6 years 8 months 1 day ago...
I don't know if this could have been avoided but it might have been put off.

Breakfast:
Kathie's big breakfast of
 • bacon
 • scrambled eggs
 • Serri Lee coffee cake
 • coffee
My dog enjoyed his share from both of us...

Lunch: at Appleby's
 • cup of onion soup
 • "sizzling fahiates"{sp} with
 • steak
 • chicken
 • white cheddar cheese
 • sauteed veggies
 • sour creamme
 • desert of chocolate moose in a large "shot glass" and
 • two glasses of "Diet Pepsi"
There was a man (in his late 20s) with a little girl (about 6 years old) seated at the table across the divider from us. At first, I thought he was talking to the air, like a classic lunatic, but he turned his head and I could see he had a little phone in his left ear. He simply looked like a head-case talking to the air. He got done with his "urgent" call, promised to call back and split out several statements at the child. It was apparent he was a "non-custodial parent" taking his daughter out to lunch and he didn't know how to engage the child in conversation. She continued coloring her Appleby's place mat and didn't reply. (Maybe I simply could not hear her?) He stopped trying to talk with the girl and Kathie and I went back to our conversation.

Several minutes later, he was back talking to the air and the girl was silently watching him. This time, it was easier to block him out.

Eventually, I noticed he was gone. Kathie had been watching him and told me he had never gotten a menu and thus, had never ordered. This was clearly not a case of "the customer is always right". He simply rubbed the waitress and waiter wrong and they admitted this when Kathie asked them.

He probably told his friends of his bad service at Applebys and that is a shame as it was his bad manners that lead to the "wait staff" not wanting to serve him. One of the many extra things kids in school apparently should be taught is "pay attention to the person you took out to lunch!" That just seems like good manners and common sense to me...

Dinner: I had
 • a largish ham sandwich
 • bowl of corn (which I had to cook in the microwave) and
 • iced water
This is a meal I won't be repeating soon! The ham was limp and the corn simply lacked flavour; I should have spiced it up with whatever I could have found in the spice cupboard!

7 January 2011

Diagnosed type 2 on 7 May 2004 or 6 years 8 months 00 days ago
I am somewhat calmer about the prospect of being on insulin than I was...

Breakfast:
creamme of wheat, two slices of toast and coffee

Lunch: from Arby's, a beef sandwich, "curly" fries and a medium "Diet Pepsi"

They stopped serving Gyros which irritates me. I liked them...

Dinner: Marie Callender's Country Fried Beef Steak with mashed potatoes, gravy and glazed carrot and iced water (an appetizer of a small amount of ice creamme)

I am somewhat calmer about the prospect of being on insulin than I was...
Breakfast: oatmeal and coffee

Lunch: At Pizza Hutt,
 • a couple of pieces of meat pizza,
 • a salad,
 • apple pie pizza (one slice),
 • a small cup of chocolate pudding and
 • two glasses of "Diet Pepsi"
The new manager (who has been there for a couple of months) has really done a change around in Pizza Hutt. The service is much better, the pizza is resupplied much quicker and it is a generally better "eating experience". I can now recommend eating here.

Snack: a couple of chunks of yellow cake and ice cramme

Dinner:
Healthy Choice Classic Meat Loaf (Meat Loaf with Rich Brown Gravy, Mashed Potatoes, Sweet Corn Blend & Apple Cranberry Multigrain Crisp) and iced water

Snack: popcorn...something my Father ate a lot of after he was on insulin; he was told it would help his appetite and it did.

4 January 2011

Diagnosed type 2 on 7 May 2004 or 6 years 7 months 28 days ago
I am somewhat calmer about the prospect of being on insulin than I was...
Breakfast: oatmeal with coffee

Lunch: We had an office luncheon and I had:
 • my homemade beef stew
 • a bowl of homemade potatoe soup with cheddar cheese
 • a couple of slices of home made (not mine!) bread
 • some ice creamme with whipped creamme
 • a couple of glasses of bottled Diet Pepsi
Dinner: We went to the Boot Hill Casino for dinner and I had
 • salad with "French" dressing and a small amount of cottage cheese
 • most of a 16oz T-bone steak
 • about half a baked potatoe
 • chocolate cake
 • water
We went there planning on going to the Casino's "Tuesday Night Italian Night" and found out they had stopped this effective the 4th. It seems they were not getting enough customers. Well, I thought the idea of individually created sauces (either white or red and the extras you pick out) was good except I am a beef eater and there was no option to have ground round in one's red sauce.

This may have irritated more than just me; it may have been the kiss of death for many people.

So, Mike Casey had Spaghetti just once at "Casey's Cowtown" and that leaves the Italian place on Front Street. (This is a nice place but has no atmosphere.) I guess I have the choice of the Front Street place for OK Italian or the place at the Garden City airport for good Italian (about 2 hours round trip) or 5 hours round trip time to Wichita for really good Italian. It looks like it will be Front Street.

3 January 2011

Since diagnosis: 6 years, 7 months, 29 days
Breakfast: oatmeal and coffee

Lunch: at Olive Garden in Wichita,
 • salad with bread sticks
 • spaghetti with meat sauce and meatballs
 • Diet Coke with no ice
We had a few problems, which we told the manager about:
 • the waiter brought Kathie's meal with the wrong type pasta
 • there was ice in my drink
 • I had to flag down the waiter to get a refill
I admit the waiter was busy and his area was divided into two by a wall. Still, it looked like he was giving those on the other side of the wall much more service. I didn't mention this to the manager. A waiter should realize that folks our age (I'm 59) often either tip lightly or tip a lot and it depends on the service received; I don't go for the automatic, obligatory, given the "wait staff" the maximum politically correct tip. That takes really good service (or the waitress being a friend of my wife).

Dinner: We were on the way back from Wichita and stopped at a Taco Hell Bell. One counter fellow said they had what my wife wanted and the other said they were permanently out of this item. We almost left...

Instead, we stayed and I had:
 • 3 hard shelled deluxe tacos and
 • split a nachos with hamburger, beans and cheese
 • had a medium Diet Coke (or what it Diet Pepsi?)
It was eatable...

Snack: a gin-n-tonic after we got home and emptied the car of everything bought at Sam's and Borders, showered etc.

2 January 2011

Breakfast: I went to the Boot Hill Casino Restaurant for breakfast and had:
 • scrambled eggs
 • SOS on hashed brown potatoes
 • well cooked bacon
 • sausage patties
 • biscuit with grape jelly and
 • coffee
I think I hurt the waiter's feelings by not eating all that I took. I just wasn't hungry...

Lunch: Two bierocks and a bottle of Diet Pepsi

Dinner: hamburger and baked potatoe and water
