The service was excellent as the Assistant Manager, a young and coming woman, was going around to all the tables and asking how things were going. This is a fine attitude and we'll be going back sooner rather than later!  I can think of places that I won't go back to due bad service (that "Mexican" place in the "Mall", Dodge House, Kate's, and another place whose name escapes me...)

27 March 2013

Lunch: with the Lions at the DCCC, for jumbulia, fries, salad, brownie with vanilla ice creamme and "Diet Pepsi"

Dinner: pan fried salmon, baked potatoe, broccoli and White Zinfandel (Mountain Home)

Burnside Bramble by Amy Stewart

The Burnside Bramble

Amy Stewart

1.5 oz. House Spirits Aviation gin

.5 oz. Clear Creek Distillery loganberry liqueur

.5 oz. fresh-squeezed lemon juice

.5 oz. simple syrup

1-2 oz. IPA (your choice — I'm not going to tell a Portlander what beer to drink)

Shake the first four ingredients over ice and strain into a short tumbler filled with ice. Top with IPA to taste, and give it a good stir.

This cocktail, like Powell's, is seriously committed to Portland and offers something for everyone. I happen to think it's a lovely drink, light and fizzy, the perfect balance of tart, sweet, and bitter. But when I make it for friends, everybody wants to tinker with the ingredients, adding a little more fruit liqueur, dialing back the lemon juice, or adjusting the ratio of gin to beer.

So go ahead — customize it. Just as a certain enormous bookstore on Burnside caters to everyone's unique needs, this drink does, too. If you can't stand the thought of even an ounce or two of beer in your cocktail, use soda water instead. And if you're one of those beer aficionados who is offended by the mere suggestion of polluting beer with other ingredients, then just leave the rest out and drink the beer. See how easy that is?

too honest!

This is the kind of blood sugar reading I hope to never see again (in a
manner of speaking) but know damned well I will be...

I was hoping to get a lower (less than 140) blood sugar level by going with meat and brocci.

AM  82  PM 119  (It worked and this is the lowest evening reading I've had in a very long time. Now, I am goingh to eat a piece of apple pie as I am feeling very hungry!)

12 March 2013

Breakfast: oatmeal, toast with peanut butter and grape jelly and coffee

Lunch:  a Healthy Choice meatloaf dinner with cold water and a couple of chunks of dark chocolate

Dinner:  two little pork chops, boiled broccoli, boiled potatoes and iced water

Anyway, that is what I meant to bring. I accidentally brought the left over hamburger and rice from last Wednesday and that is what I'll eat tonight. I can save what I had planned on eating for day after tomorrow as I had really planned on that being a test of what blood sugar level I can expect from somthing like that...

After I check my blood sugar, I am going to have a chocolate chip cookie as I am quite hungry!

AM 113  PM  150  (Ah, sweet mysteries of diabetes life given how little I ate...)

It doesn't make sense that a meal like this could have given me such a hosed up blood sugar. I know the "first aid" is to drink a lot of water but I just don't feel thirsty!   I that that when I go home, I will skip  and consul myself with  instead.

  • baked potatoe with butter and sour creamme (They gave me extra butter and sour creamme)

AM  79   PM  202

Since I moved one of my evening pills (glyburide) to the morning (where I should have been taking them!) and the Januvia to the evening, I should have stopped getting the low morning blood sugar levels (i.e. 77) and should have lower evening blood sugar levels.  So much for theory...

It is hard to believe that what I had for dinner could lead to such an elevated score; I wonder if the meter is right?
