31 December 2007

Breakfast: A big bowl of cherrios and Splenda plus a cup of coffee.

Lunch: Two slices of balloyna, two little oranges and a container of strawberry yogurt and a can of D.P.

Dinner: Left over beef stew from the other night and two (2) cans of D.P. (I figure that I'll be staying up past midnight to have some "champaign" so I could afford the excess caffine so close (5 hours) to bed.)

Dinner#2: I was still hungry so I had a small bowl of stew. I have enuf left over to have stew again tomorrow night...

Snack: Still hungry, I had a little bag of Austing Cheese Crackers with Peanut Butter and a glass of water. I don't which did it but I'm now feeling a bit sick to my stomack...

We popped the cork off a large bottle of "champaign" and drank three glasses each; we had a lot left over...

30 December 2007

Breakfast: We went out to breakfast at the local truck stop and I had:
  • Two eggs, over medium,
  • a 6oz well cooked hamberger patty,
  • hash browns,
  • two slices of whole wheat toast with grape jelly (always a good tasting but bad choice!) and
  • several cups of decent coffee.

Lunch: Salad with two hard boiled eggs and cottage cheese plus a can of D.P.

Dinner: We went to Montana Mike's for a "you're going to be working nights so this'll be our last night out for a while" [to quote me wife] and I had

  • salad with French dressing,
  • 16 oz Ribeye steak (their "Mountain Momma") and I made sure the waitress knew I wanted medium well and not medium rare (or room temperature, as I swear my steak was done at ...),
  • fully loaded baked potatoe,
  • no veggies...
  • two glasses of "Diet Pepsi" and for desert,
  • this desert consisting of
    • a brownie,
    • vinilla ice creamme,
    • fudge sauce and
    • whipped creamme (not low fat either!)

They gave us my "Diet Pepsi" free since we were in an area with a major cold air draft. It was quite localized and quite cold but we just put our winter coats over us like cloaks (at least I did and Kathie did right before we decided to leave...)

A nice pair of recipies... (muffin meatloaf and potatoes)

This sounds like a nice pair of recipies!

I'll have to try them out. That URL is:

Breakfast: Creamme of wheat, a slice of sour dough bread, a can of D.P. and coffee

Lunch: A container of orange yogurt, a deep fried chicken breast, two little oranges and a can of D.P.

Dinner: Left over turkey, gravy, dressing and smashed mashed potatoes and a can of D.P.

Pre-Bed Snack: One and a half gin-n-tonics...

I don't know if it was the left overs or the gin-n-tonic but something sent me into the bathroom to do the finger-down-the-throat-to-induce vomiting about 2 hours after I went to bed. I don't know if my digestion is going bad on me or if I just can't drink much anymore...

27 December 2007

Pre-Breakfast Snack: A cheese cracker snack thingie and a can of D.P.Lunch: From Sonic, a "toaster-2-burger-cheese samwhich, fries and a large "Diet Pepsi". I had to ask for extra bags of catsup. The woman who brought the food said our request for extra catsup had been honored but she put an additional six (6) bags of catsup in. We ended up with a total of eight (8!) bags of catsup which meant the Sonic management thoguht two (2!) bags of catsup counted as a lot! Wow!!

Breakfast: Jimmy Dean Breakfast Bowls Bacon (Eggs, Potatoes, Bacon &

Cheddar Cheese) and a can of D.P.

26 December 2007

Breakfast: Healthy Choice® Cafe SteamersTM
Chicken Margherita (White Meat Chicken Withy Angwel Hair Pasta &
Roasted Garlic In Balsamic Vinaigrette Sauce), a can of D.P., slice of
coffee cake and coffee.

Lunch: A low fat strawberry yogurt, a very small amount of creamy cole slau and water.

Dinner: Leftovers:

  • turkey,
  • mashed potatoes (made with sour creamme!),
  • dressing,
  • gravy,
seconds of the above and
  • pumpkin pie with low fat "Cool whip" and
  • a coffee cup of White Zin with dinner!
I had thought of having eggnog with rum but from the way my stomach felt, I thought that would be a very bad idea.

It was...

Knowing that "Pink" (Pepto Bismol) prevented me from vomiting the last time I felt ill when going to bed, I drank a goodly slug of the stuff. It didn't have the usual rumbling effect however but I didn't worry about that. About an hour or so after getting to sleep, I started feeling the usual pre-symthoms:

  • liquid coming up into my mouth and
  • occasional coughing and
  • finally, a feeling that I was going to "blow chunks" soon...
So, I did the inevitable. I went into the bathroom, stuck my finger down my throat once and the vomiting started! (That one throat tickle was good for three "up Charlies -er- "Chucks". I still didn't feel much better so I did the "tickle routine" one more time for one more "display"...

I sometimes wonder if the
uvula
has any purpose other than to make it easier to vomit?

The amazing thing is how much liquid comes up. I have to think that my body is investing a lot of bodily fluids in digesting and it all goes down the toilet.

So, why don't I just drink some water?

Historically speaking, drinking water at night nearly always stuffs up my nose...

This is a bad thing.

Anyway, I felt a one-time-return to the sympthoms about an hour after "blowing chunks" but it quickly went away and I slept fine. Oddly enuf, I wasn't any more thirsty at 3:27 am (on the 27th), when I made and drank my first coffee of the "new work day". (This cup of rather poorly made instant coffee was my first shot of liquids since before I'd gone to bed the night before...)

Here is a lovely quote from the wikipedia article:

Universal Emetic

Patients that suffer from bulimia nervosa, an eating disorder, tend to take the uvula to their advantage. Massaging the uvula causes the gag reflex to initate and expell stomach contents.* Massaging the uvula is the universal alternative to ipecac, but should not be practiced as it can result in damage to the lining of the esophagus and other long term health problems such as rotting of the teeth and gums.

"No shit, Sherlock?"

There is something about the way this photo was taken that reminds me of a different area of the body (in a manner of speaking). It reminds me of a so-called private part of a woman'.

23 December 2007

Breakfast:

Lunch: A really large hamberger from a slab o' hamberger that Kathie hand formed and a can of Campbell's tomatoe soup and a can of D.P.

Snack: Bag of popcorn and a large "Diet Pepsi" at the local theater (and Kathie thinks that I pee a lot is simply a sign of my being a diabetic...)

Dinner: A nice and large roast, potatoes and carrots boiled with the meat and gravy. I drank water...

Pre-Bed Snack:

22 December 2007

Breakfast: An All American breakfast wrap and a can of D.P.

Snack: Several dinner rolls

Lunch: At McDonalds for a:

  • Double Quarter Pounder without cheese (it had cheese anyway),
  • "French" fries,
  • Diet Coke without ice.
So, were there problems? Oh, yeah!
  • The hamberger came with cheese ,
  • the "French" fries were limp, cold and bad.
I spilled the "Diet Coke" when I put the tray onto the table. They (the store owner) gave me a free refill anyway. I tipped the fellow who cleaned up after me ($1); he earned it!
We haven't eatten a berger meal at MaccyDee in years and it will be even more years before we expect to go back...

Dinner: Lazanna (from a pan of the frozen shuff) and a glass of water.

Pre-Bed Snack: Gin-n-tonic...

Lunch: A small container of strawberry yogurt, two little oranges and a peanut butter samwhich and a can of D.P.

Dinner: Home made tuna noodle casserrol with a lot of extra cheese and a glass of water.

This turned out to be a good meal choice as my 2-hour-past-eatting blood sugar was not only good but was better than my I-just-woke-up score this morning!

Pre-Bed Snack: a gin and tonic..

20 December 2007

Breakfast: A McDonald's "Large" Breakfast, which consisted of

Breakfast: Breakfast: An A and W breakfast burrito and what appeared to be shredded potatoes (which demanded lots of catsup!) and a glass of what might have been "Diet Pepsi" mixed with a bit of "Diet Root Beer" and something else. We could not tell.

I went there after working out at the Sheridan Center (walking on the track, actually...) and I don't think we'll be going back for breakfast there again...

Lunch: We had our office Christ Mass party and lunch was:

  • mashed potatoes,
  • turkey,
  • dressing,
  • gravy,
  • two rolls,
  • two small pieces of pumpkin pie and

Also, two cans of D.P. I carefully did not let myself obsess on my A1C score of:

Dinner: We went to the , which is the restaurant at the "Dodge House". Kathie had high hopes for this place. After all, some of her co-workers had liked their lunch a week or so before. On the other hand, a friend of ours complained of very poor and very slow service and inferior food. Another couple agree with this negative opinion. We decided to check it out...

Unfortunately, we have to go with the negative opinion...

We arrived about 5:50 pm and entered. We began waiting to be seated. That only took about four minutes.

It was after 6 before we got waited on. We did not order from a waiter; we had to order drinks from the woman who seated us. She had no idea which white wines they had so Kathie order3ed a gin-n-tonic.

About 6:05 pm to 6:10 pm, a waiter arrived and we ordered an onion ring.

About 6:18 pm, "our" waiter finally arrived to take our order. (I say "our" with irony because he was putting his time in on dealing with a large group.) I ordered a 16 oz Prime Rib, done medium, baked potatoe with everything that comes on a baked potatoe, French dressing [on my salad] and more water.

Kathie ordered much the same but with the 14oz Prime Rib.

About 6:35, Kathie commented that the waiter seemed to be "taking the long way around to avoid us" and I think she was right! "Our" waiter seemed to be trying to avoid us.

About 6:42 pm (roughly), we finally got our salads. Then, a couple of minutes later, we got the onion ring. It was quite good.

At 6:50 pm, "our" waiter wondered back over and Kathie askeed "where is our dinner? Have they lost our order?" "Our" waiter said "no".

About 6:50 to 6:55 pm, "our" waiter finally arrived with our dinners. The waiter handed me Kathie's Prime Rib and vice versa. I had to tell him to switch the plates (he still had Kathie's plate on his hand).

The outside rim of my Prime Rib was done and the meat was warm to the touch but the fucking thing was clearly very rare. I was pissed and thought of sending it back. However, I have heard too many stories of potatoes disappearing when the properly cooked steak is properly cooked. Then, too, I was hungry and had eatten most of the Prime Rib by the time "our" waiter came back.

I showed the steak to "our" waiter and said "does this look like rare to you?"

He said "yes".

I replied "well, it's supposed to be medium!"

"Oh."

I do not recall '"our" watier offereing to have my steak properly cooked...

We told "our" waiter that we didn't hold this very slow service against him. "Our" waiter repleid that the main cook was "out sick" and the replacement cook "didn't really know what he was doing". We agree and I bitched to the woman who seated us.

She asked us "did you send it back?"

I replied "no, given how slow the service was, I had no idea how long it would have taken!"

Breakfast: Marie Callender's ® Salt -er- Country Fried Pork Chop with Cheddar Bacon Mashed Potatoes, Gravy & Vegetables and a can of D.P.

Lunch: Long Dong John Slver's for their "Number four" (fish "planks", chicken "planks", insipic French Fries, a very small about of decent cole slau and a large "Diet Pepsi without ice". TGhat drink came with a huge amount of ice. I'd like to see what I would have gotten iff'n I'd asked for "extra ice, please".

Snack: A piece of that choclate silk pie and I felt much better so I think I've been slightly hypoglysemic today...

Dinner: We bought a "we-make-it-you-cook-it" pizza at Wally World. My "side" was all meat and tasted good. I drank an MGD and later had a gin-n-tonic. A couple of hours later, I woke up thinking I was going to barf. As I was getting out of bed, my wife told me to take some "Pink" (Pepto Bismol). That shit really worked well and I kept dinner down...

Breakfast: Left over Spaghetti and two (2) cans of D.P.
I'm a little pissed off that our precious and latest version of "Word" was absolutely useless in finding the spelling of "Spaghetti"! I had to go on-line and Goodle for the spelling! Bummer!!
It also irritates me that a proper noun (and a name no less!), "Google", is being used as a verb! What is happening to the state of written English in this country besides cultural illiterates on TV???

South BeachTM Diet "All American" Breakfast Wrap and a cup of coffee.

Lunch:
Burger King Angus Burger, fries and a large "Diet Coke with no ice (which meant it only had a small amount of ice...).

Dinner:
Homemade spegethie sauce and a loaf of "French Bread" (baked from dough from a tube) and water (I couldn't find a bottle of MGD). I had a very, very good blood sugar level: 129!

My spegethie sauce recipie:
  • two pounds of 80/20% hamberger (meat/fat),
  • three cans of spegethie sauce,
  • a couple of table spoons of brown sugar,
  • "Italian" seasoning and
  • some pepper.

I bought a largish "choclate silk pie" from a local "PTO" (Parent Teacher Organization) at a local "Middle School" (read "Junior High" for us old farts...). It was horribly rich and quite good and I seriously must either take it to work or ask Kathie to take to her work so that I'll be spared the temptation of eatting it. After all, I have a

hanging over my head...
I had some bad reactions to my dinner...

Before I had the pie, I was feeling stuffed and knew that I should blow chunks. It seems my stomach does not empty very quickly or efficiently these days. I was in bed from about 7:30 pm to about 9:40 when I realized it wasn't getting any better. So, I went to the bedroom bathroom, put my finger down my throat and several barfs later, I felt a whole lot better.

The second thing was more subtle: my younger cat was sleeping at the end of the bed where my feet should normally be. I didn't want to bother her so I tried sleeping "kitty corner" and that just hurt my legs and lower back. I took a couple of (anti-)pain pills. That didn't really help. I then put on some Ben Gay and it burned a lot and that pain hid the pain of the back.

I finally had enough about 10:25 pm and moved the silly cat. Pain ended and I actually got to sleep before Kathie came to bed.

Tomorrow night (actually tonight as I'm writing this on the 15th), the cat will be moved should she be in the way of my feet...

6 December 2007 or "Vomit early and avoid the rush!"

How was dinner? To paraprhase Vir Koto "It tasted good going down but not so good coming back up..." Yup! That was my dinner!

Breakfast: Jimmy Dean Breakfast Bowls Sausage (Eggs, Potatoes, Sausage & Cheddar Cheese) and a bag of Cheese-Its plus a can of D.P. and a cup of two of coffee...

Snack:Six little Oreo cookies and coffee...

Lunch: An "origional" Burger King chicken samwhich, large fries and a "Diet Coke, no ice please..." It tasted quite adequate.

Dinner:Cheese and Broccoli Chicken

Soup
and chunks of baked "French Bread". I bought a can of "French Bread" and baked it before eatting dinner.

The soup tasted fine the first several spoonfuls but then it started to taste like something was off. That could not be true, I had used fresh ingredients, clean cooking pots and flatware and had not undercooked it. (i.e. the chicken was well and truly done, well boiled) I had seconds because
  1. I was the cook and
  2. I was hungry
  3. and I didn't want to wake up hungry the next moring (I did anyway...)

I washed the dishes, feeling more and more sick to my stomach as time passed. So, I said the magic phrase my wife loves to hear:

"I'll walk the dog."

I then took my dog outside, insured the two back doors were locked (they were, of course) and went to the fence on the north side of the yard. (We have no neighbors there.)

I proceded to stick my finger down my throat three times and barfed over the fence onto the "neighbor's" yard. I could tell my body wasn't quite ready for vomiting as it took some effort to trigger my gag relex; on the other hand, I could easily tell that I would have woken up with vomit in my mouth had I not done this before going to bed...

My wife hates it when I vomit.

As I was drifing off, I found myself composing "vomiting songs". The only two of these "wonderful" lyrics I can rememger are:

"Putting your finger down your throat ain't so hardbarfing in the neighbor's yard...
If you like irony, consider that I was reading a "foodie" article ("San Sebastian on Six Meals a Day") on Slate before I decided to update this (on the 7th. I went back to the article and realized that most of the food the author thought was wonderful would be stuff that I wouldn't have touched...

Pictures of soup being made...

There is something mysterious about the sight of a closed pan. Is this dinner being cooked or simply a closed pan?

Here is "French-Bread-from-a-can" being a cooked.

Bread ready to be torn into pieces, "buttered" and eatten!

This is melted butter with flour mixed in and the mess cooked.

Here is the water, bouillon cubes, chicken, broccoli, salt and pepper, mixed and being cooked.

Here is the flour mixture being blended into the soup.

Another shot of the above blended ingredients.

Finally, I was now blending in the creamme.

05 December 2007

Breakfast: Left over "stewed" chicken and rice from last night and two (2!) cans of DP and some coffee (very small amount). Oh and a couple of choclate chip cookies that I made last night...

Conference-at-work-snack:
A dognut. Prior to an office conference about ten years ago, one of my co-workers sent an email to the office at about 4 am and he meant to say "I'll bring a fine selection of donuts" but said "I'm bring a fine selection of dognuts"...

Oops and yes, I've screwed up far worst at the time of the morning...

Lunch: At Casey's Cowtown:

  • Chicken Fried Chicken with white gravy,
  • mashed potatoes,
  • roll and butter,
  • a small bowl of cottage cheese with a slice of tomotoe (vice some green veggie) and
  • two smallish glasses of "Diet Pepsi".

Dinner: Tuna noodle casserol (composed of
  • expensive tuna fish,
  • lots of boiled noodles,
  • a couple of handfulls of grated sharp cheddar cheese and
  • crushed "Lays Origional Potatoe Chips"
and to "wash" it down with, a bottle of Real Beer: MGD! (none of that "light" or "lite" dog piss for me!!!)

Desert: A Muselnix decongestant tablet but I didn't need to use the inhalior. Ah, you probably thought I was talking about something decadent to eat, desert wise...

Breakfast: Aunt Jemima pancakes and sausage, coffee and a can of D.P.

Snack with movie: Popcorn and a couple of chunks of dark choclate.

Next snack: Some sour dough bread with Tillamock sharp cheddar cheese melted on it and a can of D.P.

Lunch: Subway samwhich meatball and a glass of "Diet Coke" or "Diet Pepsi".

Snack: At the American Red Cross Blood drive: A bowl of "potatoe soup" (actually a brouth with chunks of cooked potatoe in it), lots of carrots and two cups of coffee (and a glass of water)

Dinner: We went to the Ulysses Kansas Lions Club meeting (I've forgotten which restraunt) for their Christmas Dinner. Kathie was the speaker so we ate free and we ate

  • a nice salad,
  • small amount of turkey,
  • scoup of mashed potatoes with gravy,
  • scoup of dressing,
  • a very small bite of sweet potatoes (not as bad as I feared it would be),
  • a roll with butter (a very large roll),
  • a little bit more of roll,
  • samll slice of pumpkin pie and little scoup of whippted creamme and
  • a couple of glasses of water!

It was a nice meal.

02 December 2007

Breakfast: Cremme of wheat, part of a large chunk of sour dough bread toasted in the oven (part fell through the grill and onto the heating element...) and coffee.

Lunch: A nice SirLoin steak, baked potatoe, boiled broccoli, a couple of little pieces of fudge and a can of D.P.

Snack, ill advised!: I went to Dairy Queen to get a choclate milk shake; I had origionally thought of a vinilla cone dipped in choclate but decided this was too risky to eat on the way to work; I did not want to spill it on me! When I got up to the window, they handed me the ice creamme cone I'd thought of. I said "I wanted a choclate milk shake! The girl looked abashed; it was late and I didn't want to be late to work so I said "I'll take that anyway. Also, I didn't want to go through the hassle of trying to return my change and pay for the choclate milk shake they would then have to make me. I now have a better idea of why some folks seems to take forever at the drive up window: they're waiting for their screwed up orders to be made right!

Dinner: Healthy Choice® Cafe Steamers Chicken MCargherita (White Meat chicken With ANgel Hair Pasta & Roasted Garlic In Balsamic Vinaigrette Sauce) and a can of D.P.

Breakfast: We went out to breakfast. I had one of the two "specials":
  • patty sausage,
  • two eggs over medium,
  • real hash browned potatoes (not the fried mashe potatoes I had the other day!),
  • whole wheat toast with grape jelly and
  • several cups of decent coffee and a glass of ice water.

Lunch:
Something quick and bad for me. I fried some corned beef and put it between two slices of hand sliced sour dough bread, with mustard and a can of D.P. I also had a can of Campbell's Tomatoe soup.

Dinner:
A Hunbgry-Man (1 lb) Classic Fried Chicken (White & Dark Chicken Pieces with Mashed Potatoes, Corn adn a Brownie) and a can of D.P. I know that I should have had something good for me but I've eatten so many "good for me" meals lately and have little to show for them. So, fuck it! I'm going with "bad for me" tonight and I'll get "back on the wagon" tomorrow...

30 November 2007

Breakfast: Left over roast beef, a couple of small potatoes and a largish slice of sour dough bread soaked in the juices and a can of D.P. and a cup or two of coffee.

Lunch:
Bugger Burger King for an Anus Angus burger, "King Sized" fries and a largish glass of "Diet Pepsi".

This was a seminal meal!

We thought about the price and my wife said "all the prices keep going up!" I suggested that maybe now is the time to start packing our lunches. I suggested samwhiches, carrots and apples or bananas. It sounded real reasonable while we were leaving "the King" but now (at 8:57 pm) I seriously doubt this venture if "improved eatting" will last long. It is simply too easy to score some quick food even if the shit is seriously damanging us...

Dinner:
A can of Healthy Choice® Chicken With Rice Soup and a 1.5 oz bag of "Cheeze-It" Baked Snack Crackers added and of course, a can of D.P.

2nd Dinner: After the dinner fiasco (blood sugar of 157 two hours after finishing eatting "dinner"), I had the same size of soup (170 calories) but this was the Healthy Choice Old Fashioned Chicken Noodle Soup and (of course?) a glass of iced water. (Yes, "iced water". It is 9 47 pm and simply way too late for me to consume caffine if I plan on getting to sleep at my usual: around 12:30 am...)

Pre-Bed Snack:
A thick slice of sour dough bread and peanut butter. I also had a MDG; this was the first time in months that a beer actually tasted good.

29 November 2007

Breakfast: I had my annual physical at the local VA Clinic so I had to do the fasting thing. I went out to breakfast at a local truck stop and had:
  • 2 pork chops,
  • "fried potatoes" (actually mashed potatoes sort of fried),
  • two eggs over medium (a bit undercooked in my opinion, must be a new cook up from Old Mexico),
  • two slices of whole wheat toast with grape jelly and
  • a couple of cups of not too bad coffee!
Aside from the "fried potatoes" and the insipit eggs, it was a fine meal. They do a good job with not undercooked the pork chops...

Lunch:
Went to Quixos where I had a bowl of broccoli cheese soup and a regular sized beef samwhich (I'm forgotten what exactly they called it...) Actually, I only ate ½ of the samwhich. I was still full from breakfast and the soup filled in any remaining "voids" in my stomach. I would have been better off had we gone to Taco Hell Bell for some kind of Tacos...

Snack:
Some cookies I baked at home; this is the third batch I've made this week and the first that I didn't burn! I guess reading and following the instructions on the package does work... ;-)

Dinner: Healthy Choice®Cafe Steamers Grilled White Meat Chicken & Roasted Red Pepper ALfredo Sauce With Linguini Pasta & Broccoli Florets

Dinner: Healthy Choice® Cafe Steamers Chicken Margherita (White Meat Chicken With Angel Hair Pasta & Roaste Garlic In ABalsamic Vinaigrette Sauce) and a can of D.P.

Snacks afternoon and evening: Several no-fat cookies and no-fat Vanilla Wafers, that I brought in to work last night.

Thanksgiving Day 2007

Breakfast: Aunt Jemima pancakes and sausage with a couple of cups of coffee and a can of D.P.

Lunch: Thanksgiving Dinner featuring:

  • turkey cooked in a plastic bag,
  • mashed potatoes,
  • dressing (cooked in the bird!),
  • gravy,
  • rolls and margarine,
  • mixed veggies, boiled,
  • smallish piece of pumpkin pie and no fat "topping" and, finally,
  • two cans of D.P.

Dinner: A South Beach Diet "All American" Breakfast Wrap and a can of D.P. The "All American Breakfast Wrap is:

Scrambled Egg White, Reduced Fat Mozzarella & Nonfat Cheddar Cheeses, Tomatoes, Smoked Turkey Bacon & Cheese in a whole wheat tortilla.

27 NOvember 2007

Breakfast: A bowl of spoon sized shredded wheat and a slice of sour dough bread with peanut butter and a can of DP (plus, of course, a cup of instant coffee to start the day).

Snack: A couple of chunks of choclate fudge.

Lunch: Left over roast beef and a couple of small boiled potatoes. I tried eatting some Cheeze-Its but they tasted wretched. (Probably just my stomach or perhaps I'm finally tasting their true taste for the first time?)

Snack: Another chunk of choclate fudge. Something seems to be giving me gas...

Dinner:

Snack: Two gin-n-tonic and boy did I feel crappy after I went to bed. My days of drinking with impunty seem to be gone...

26 November 2007

Dinner:
Salad with "bacon bits" and no fat 1000-Island Dressing and a can of D.P.

Snack: Two gin-n-tonic
and boy did I feel crappy after I went to bed. My days of drinking with impunty seem to be gone...

23 November 2007

Breakfast: Leftover turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, gravy and a can of D.P.

Lunch:
We made the mistake of going to the rebuilt, reopened "Long John Silvers" (I've finally gotten over my habit of calling it "Long Dong's" or "Long Dong Silvers"). There, I ordered the 2 chicken plank, 2 fish plant combo. I actually got a 1 chicken and 1 fish plank combo. They didn't charge me for the 2 fers. My wife ordered the "Sampler Platter" and got everything save for the

  • cole slau,
  • tarter sauce and
  • napkins
She was quite angry and wondered about going back to complaig. I said it wasn't worth it; in the future, I think that "Long Dong John Silver's" has joined "Kentucky Fried Rat Chicken" on the avoidance list. What is "KFC" on the no-go/no-buy list? I've gotten raw or at least "rare" chicken 2 of the last 6 times we've gone to the Dodge City Kansas "KFC" and the prices are just ridicious.

"Nuff said" to quote some Marvel Comics Hero.

Dinner: Healthy Choice® Cafe Steramers Creamy Dill Salmon (Wild Salmon Fillet Slices VOer Penne Pasta & Broccoli Florets With Creamy Dill Sauce) and a can of D.P.

Tuesday, November 20, 2007

21 November 2007

Breakfast: Aunt Jemima pancakes and sausage, a cup of coffee, a can of D.P. and another cup of coffee.

Lunch: Quixos for two of their little peta bread samwhich thingies (one chicken the other roast beef) and a bowl of broccoli cheese soup. (I should have had two bowls and skipped the pseudo-gyros; they were fine but the soup was "finer".)

Snack: I had a craving for a small Dairy Queen ice creamme cone dipped in choclate; it was quite good even if flurries had been falling an hour or so before and it was quite cold outside...

¿Snack? A big cup of really strong coffee...

Dinner: Left over roast beef and a can of pre-cut potatoes and two cans of D.P. It tasted good but I should not have eatten the whole thing; I have a bit of an upset stomach now and will have to drink a bit of "Pink" (Pepto Bismol) when I get home or risk blowing chunks an hour after crashing. (On second throught, I finished dinner about 6:40 pm and won't be crashing till about 12:30 am or so and that may be long enuf for this to exit my stomach. We'll see...)

On a different note, I "had the D" yesterday, the day before and twice today. I wonder iff'n I can't handle excessive amounts of caffein?

20 November 2007

Breakfast: Cherios and a peanut butter and honey samwhich, coffee and a can of D.P.
The honey tasted incredibly sweet and nearly inedible yet at the tim eof this writing, 8:25 pm, I feel the urge to eat some honey. I wonder if my blood sugar has dropped a tad during the day? Nahhhh...it was 138...
It would have been somewhat less, I suspect, if I'd remember to take my fucking Metformin while eatting dinner...

Lunch: At Wendy's, a "Baconator: that is, a double hamberger with strips of bacon, baked potatoe with butter and sour creamme and a medium "Diet Pepsi" with no ice.

Dinner: A Healthy Choice® Cafe Steamers Grilled White Meat Chicken & Roasted Red Pepper Alfredo Sauce With Linguini Pasta & Broccoli Florets and a can of D.P.

Monday, November 19, 2007

19 November 2007

Breakfast: Small piece of hamberger, two scrambled eggs, 2 slices of sour dough toast, coffee and a can of D.P.

Lunch: Three hard tacos "deluxe" and a medium "Diet Pepsi" at Taco Bell.

Snack:A couple of small pieces of dark choclate...

Dinner: Healthy Choice® Cafe Steamers Grilled White Meat Chicken & Roasted Red Pepper Alfredo Sauce With Linguini Pasta & Broccoli Florets, a 1.5 oz bag ofgg Lay's® Classic Potatoe Chips and a can of D.P.

Sunday, November 18, 2007

18 November 2007

Breakfast: Left over pot roast and mashed potatoes from several days ago and a can of D.P.

Lunch: Two brats in buns and a can of D.P.

Dinner: Pizza and a can of Foster's Lagrer.

Pre-Bed Snack: A gin-n-tonic and several small slices of "home made bread". That is, "French Bread" that I made from a tube of dough this afternoon.

As of late, I am feeling a bit of late evening nausea. If this continues, I might have to see my family MD...

Saturday, November 17, 2007

17 November 2007

Breakfast: Kathie's big breakfast of scrambled eggs, bacon (some in a sandwhich), Serra Lee Coffee Cake, coffee and a can of D.P.

Lunch: We had lunch at a restaurant in Garden City, Kansas. I ordered a ham and Cheddar omelet, whole wheat toast, hash browns and a glass of Diet Pepsi with no ice. It took a very long time to get the order and the omelet was on the cool side (certainly wasn't hot), the hash browns were that crispy from being in the warming dish too long and after getting the food, "our" waitress disappeared. I had to ask another waitress for a refill of the Diet Pepsi and never did get a second cup of coffee. It later seemed like "our" waitress had too many tables but the other waitress didn't seem too busy...

Dinner: A large hamburger, hominy with chunks of ham and water. My 2 hour post eatting blood sugar score was 170. I can only conclude the hominy jacked my blood sugar...

To comiserate, I had a gin-n-tonic. (I would have celebrated with a gin-n-tonic had it been a good score; I guess I have become my father. He liked his "Old Fashions" too after he was b eing treated for type 1 diabetes...

Several hours after eatting, I kept waking with stomich juickes in my mouth (vomit actually). Instead of going to the hallway bathroom to barf, I took a good swig of "Pink" - Pepto Bismol. My stomack gurgled and I was fine...

Friday, November 16, 2007

16 Novem ber 2007

Breakfast: Left over chillie and a can of D.P.

Lunch: Long John Silvers for

  1. two chicken "planks",
  2. three "fish planks",
  3. well aged and cold French Fries,
  4. a glass of "Diet Pepsi" that came with my wife's order.
I asked for "no ice" and they had to empty and refill the glass; somehow3, the words "no ice please" didn't make it trough the first tiime...

Dinner: A reasonably nice salad from Applebys (one of their chicken salads. THe problem is that most salads turn my stomach lately...) Desert was two pieces of sour dough bread in a glass with 2% milk and three teaspoons of Splenda.

Thursday, November 15, 2007

15 November 2007

Breakfast: A small piece of over-cooked hamberger and a small bowl of "my" chilli and a can of D.P.

Lunch: We had the annual chilli luncheon at work. This included:

  1. My chilli,
  2. four other versions of chlli,
  3. a big bowl of something tghat might have been chilli,
  4. corn brfead,
  5. a slice of home made bread,
  6. my homemade vinilla ice creamme,
  7. my boss' wonderful fudge topping for the ice creamme.
With lunch, a can of D.P.

Dinner: At Montana Mike's, a 22 ounze steak (most of which I took home), baked potatoe, fully loaded, big chunk of bread, salad and desert. Also, two glasses of "Diet Pepsi", no ice.

We decided to split their ice creamme, brownie, whipped creamme and cherry desert. They were out of whipped creamme and cherries; my wife and I were pissed about the missing whipped creamme and she resented the lack of a cherry.

This is nothing new!

The last time we tried ordering this desert was on a Sunday in August. This Montana Mikey's was out of ice creamme. I suggested they go to the 14th Street Dillions and buy a couple of gallons of ice creamme. We were told that Montana Mikey's was sent their consumables and could not buy mising items from local venders!

This is a foolish policy as customers like Kathie and I talked about this at work, Lions, etc.

Breakfast: Jimmy Dean Breakfast Bowls (Bacon Eggs, Potatoes, Bacon & Cheddar Cheese) plus coffee and a can of D.P.

Post-Breakfast Snack: The remainder of the little bit of leftover hamberger (from day before yesterday) and a can of D.P.

I like that shit way too much!

12 November 2007

Quickie snack: A piece of left over hamberger from yesterday's lunch...

Breakfast: Aunt Jemima Pancakes and Sausage plus cold coffe (left over from the pot I made yestereay morning!) and a can of D.P.

Quickie snack #2: The rest of the left over hamberger from yesterday's lunch...

LUnch: A chicken sub and bowl of broccoli cheese soup from Quixos and a large glass of "Diet Pepsi".

Afternoon snack: Some dark choclate...

Dinner: Can of Prego{sp} Chicken noodle soup, a sour dough peanut butter samwhich and a bottle of MGD. The last two time (before last night) that I had an MGD, it tasted bad. I figure the kitchen was colder last night and that reduced the beer temperature and maybe the MGD just went better with the meal I had...

Sunday, November 11, 2007

11 November 2007

Pre-Breakfast South Beach Diet Cicken Monterey Wraps and coffee...

Breakfast:Kathie is going to the Knights of Columbus, who are sponsoring a breakfast:

10 Novemver 2007

Breakfast: Oatmeal and coffee

Snack:Uno:
Those cheese crackers and a can of D.P.

Two:
Those little "Oreos" (I'll have to bring something better for me tomorrow!)

Lunch: We went to Applebys where I had fahitas with steak (done medium) and chicken along with rice; I had sour creamme, lettuce and chopped tomatoes to put onto the meat inside the fahetias and I did so! Desert was a chocklate moose kind of thing in a shot glass. I also had a couple of glasses of "Diet Pepsi".

Snack:At the Santa Fe Trail Association meeting (held in the Dodge City Public Library), I had a couple of choclate chip cookies and a biggish plastic glass of ice tea (sans ice as it came directly from the refer (Navy term for refrigerator).

Dinner: We were still full from lunch so I had a can of Progresso chicken soup and a peanut butter samwhich on sliced sour dough bread and a glass of water.

I had trouble getting to sleep so maybe it was somethinig I ate. Actually, it probably was a side effect of using my inhalior shortly before going to bed. I think it has a stimulant in it because I was lying in bed, unable to get to sleep, totally wired. Yet, oddly enough, I'd look at the clock every so often and it seemed like I had great chunks of missing time; I guess I had been asleep for most of the period those first 3.5 hours...

Lunch:
At a Bar-b-que place in Wichita Kansas:

  1. pulled pork,
  2. pulled beef,
  3. potatoe salad (looked like semi-mashed potatoes,
  4. cole slau and
  5. a medium "Diet Coke

Snack:At this seminar I was at

  1. sugar cookie
  2. choclate chip cookie
  3. coffee, a cup of
  4. water, a glass of...

Dinner: We went to a dinner on the way back from Wichita to Dodge City and I had breakfast:

  1. 5 oz "steak",
  2. two fried eggs (sort of "over medium" as I'd asked for
  3. hash browns
  4. two slices of whole wheat toast with grape jelly
  5. bottle of Diet Pepsi

I checked my blood sugar two hours after finishing dinner. The score was quite nice and I celebrated with a gin-n-tonic

Big Mistakes!

About and hour and a half after going to bed, I awoke coughing and hacking up lots of crap. I tried going back to sleep but woke up with more crap coming up. So, tired of my wife giving me grief about coughing ("I have a pillow with your name on it! It keeps trying to get on your face! I can't keep it down much longer!), I decided to give her a show:

I went to the bathroom, raised the toilet lid and just leaned over. The vomit gushed forth and after a couple of minutes of "sprewing", I went back to bed.

She was concerned about me now, now that she realized I simply wasn't coughing to annoy her and she was still a bit worried when I got up hours later to "go taka pee". (Diabetics often have the "pee in the night" to deal with.)

Oh well, I just hope she never has these problems! On the other hand, I'm glad I'll never have to deal with fears of breast cancer or pap smears or such on a personal basis...

Dinner: Salad (as I recall)

4 November 2007

Breakfast: At the "Guest House", they had a buffet line (which they were supposed to have yesterday!). It was supposed to be in the meeting room we'd had meals in yesterday but they'd borken down the tables so it was helf in the "dining room". They ran out of scrambled eggs fairly quickly but replaced that tray very quickly. They ran out of gravy for the gravy and bisquits (very hard bisquits) or gravy over hash browns (one of my favourite breakfasts!), coffee and a couple of glasses of orange.

One of the galsses of orange juice was unsweetened and the other was sweetened. It would have been much better had the service been in the expected room as it was much larger...

Lunch: We drove down to Wichita and went to "Olive Garden". There, I had their usual great salad and spegettie, meatballs and meat sauce. We split a desert (Black Tie Moose Mousse Cake) and I had a couple of glasses of "Diet Coke".

Dinner: I fried a piece of boneless chicken and had boiled rice, with a gin-n-tonic to drink. I'd have thought that eatting Indian would have upset my stomach but it didn't; the American food I ate did...

3 November 2007

Breakfast: Ah, breakfast at the "Guest House! (in Emporia Kansas) What a cluster fuck!

We entered the restraunt at 7 am and found a table. Kathie noticed some friends and asked if we could join them. They said "yes" and so we did. Then, we began waiting for our orders to be taken.

The hotel owner (an Indian) started delivering coffee but had trouble with getting de-caf for Kathie; he had just put it on. As it turned out, he gave me a partial refill of my regular coffee but never offered Kathie a refil on her decaf.

About 7:32, his helper showed up and they began taking orders. I ordered the three egg special because it had hash brown potatoes and bacon. When our orders arrived, the man of the other couple had his hash browns. The problem was, his order wasn't supposed to have hash browns and mine was but didn't. His wife (seated next to me) was supposed to get hash browns but didn't. We complaigned to the hotel owner who simply brought out a big plate of has browns and let us fight over it. Well, we didn't fight but at least we got our hash browns.

We got toast but not butter or grape jelly. We asked for both and got the butter spead. We asked for grape jelly a second time and got it.

The food would have been better if there had been salt and pepper.

Another couple gave up and left, having not been served.

Several people had gotten coffee and left without paying and without having ever gotten a menu let alone been served.

I left a tip in spite of being tole not to by our friend. I waited until she wasn't looking and Kathie was shocked that I had left a tip. (Kathie had left to get to an early meeting.) Usually, Kathie insists on leaving tips but not today...

Lunch: We went to a little sports bar/restraunt where I had a steak samwhich (very tender), home made Freeedom French Fries and "Diet Pepsi". This was not done at the Hotel Restraunt...

Dinner: This was the second night in a row that the hotel provided the meal. We later heard that the baked potatoes were the only requested item that we were actually served...

The meal was a piece of boneless, skinned chicken covered with some kind of spicy sauce. There was a selection of veggies (Kalli-flower, broccoli and carrots) that was quite spicy but tasted good (I'd have eatten a lot more if I'd been offered...). Of course, we had a baked potatoe; I can't recall the last time I saw such small potatoes...

Oh, yeah, I do remember! I planted potatoes a couple of years ago and what pitable few that came up weren't much smaller than what we were surved!

We finally got rolls (very small rolls) and they were cooling off when we finally got butter. We had to ask for extra butter in order to have enough "butter" for both the itty-bitty potatoe and the itty-bitty rolls. (I really should have taken pictures of the meal...)

Desert was a nicely decant choclate thingie...

What a Cluster Fuckcontinued: Linda (she who was in charge of planning) told the Guest House owers that we would have fourtheight (48!) for dinner Friday jnight and seventythree (73!) for dinner Saturday.

To repeat, that was 48 for Friday night and 73 for Saturday night!

They served the 48 Friday night and fixed enough main courses for 48 on Saturday night. They apparently made five extra meals and that left twenty (20!!) folks without meals! So, after both parties (Lions and motel) counted noses twice, they quickly cooked chicken wings for the "extra" twenty. Maybe it was the spices but the insides of the chicken wings were reportedly red, very red, bloody undercooked chicken bloody red. So, those folks basically didn't get dinner.

Next year's November Consil meeting will not be at the "Guest House".

Now, in defense of this place:

  1. They have only been in business for about a month (new owners),
  2. their regular dinners are supposed to be very good Indian,
  3. they normally do not do breakfast (and certainly do not know how to do an American Breakfast and
  4. the rooms weren't bad.

Regardless, the State Lions leadership are planning on going elsewhere next year and the "Guest House" has screwed themselves. There is the proverb: "The reputation of a thousand years is made in a single hour." In the case of the "Guest Hosue", in a single weekend...

Pre-Bed Snack: I went to the hospitality room and had some snacks and talked for about an hour and a half. Then, I returned to the room and had barely settle down to read when Kathie got back. She was riled up over the meetings she'd attended (she is a Lions District Governor) so she insisted on drinking the white whine wine we'd bought that afternoon during the post-meetings/pre-dinner break. It wasn't bad and neither of us were hung over the next day...

2 November 2007

Breakfast: Cheerios and later, a couple of slices of summer sausage. Coffee and a couple of cans of D.P. as well.

Lunch: We had lunch at the main diner in Lakin Kansas (well, the only one on Highway 50...). I had a large hamburger, home made fries and Diet Coke.

Dinner: We were at the "Guest House" in Emporia Kansas. The meal was supposed to be American but the Hotel/Restaurant owners were Indian and so they prepared an Indian "treat...". Said "treat" consisted of:
A stew, with little gravy, mystery meat and potatoes

  • salad
    1. First, they brough out little plates of mostly chopped lettcue,
    2. they brought out vinegar-oil-vinegar dressing
    3. Finally, the salt and pepper...

  • fluffy rice so loaded with cilantro that it looked like Cole slaw
  • rolls with butter brought much later
  • water (There were no other drinks!
  • Choice of lemon merrang pie or cheese cake
I was persistent and waited until they brought out the cheese cake...
It was very spicy and most of my fellow Lions didn't like or eat it. I thought it was interesting albeit a bit strange...

Pre-Bed Snack: In the hospitality room, a couple of small brownies and chips.

1 November 2007

Breakfast: Piece of steak, boiled with potatoies and a can of D.P.

Lunch: A regular Quixos "French Dip" and a cup of broccoli cheese soup and a large "Diet Coke".

Dinner: From the "Rat": Two piece of chicken (breast and wing, extra crispy), mashed potatoes and brown gravy, bisquit and honey and water.

Pre-Bed Snack: A gin-n-tonic...

Oh, shit moment: My 2 hours past finishing dinner blood sugar was 200! That is the worst it has been in a very long time and I con only blame it on the honey and mashed potatoes. The one "good' thing about this is that I took extra good care to dry my toes and feet after my evening shower...

29 October 2007

Breakfast: I boiled Kathie's left over steak (from yesterday's lunch) and had this with a couple of eggs and two slices of sour dough toast. I kind of screwed up the taste of the steak and it didn't have enuf time to get tenderized as I had hoped...

Lunch: Kathie did her Lions District Governor visit to Lakin Kansas where we ate from the buffet: I had:

  1. roast beef
  2. turkey with dressing
  3. nice mashed potatoes
  4. an excessively salty brown gravy over everything
  5. a roll with butter (I noticed the packets of grape jelly too late...
  6. a very small piece of choclate cake and
  7. a large glass of ice water.
I didn't want to add to our host's costs by asking for a soft drink.

Snack at work: One of the fellows had brought in choclate cake and I'll confess to eatting two slices. I will also confess to feeling bloated and slightly ill afer each and I don't know if that was due to the cake or just a touch of hyperglycemia?

Oh, well, my A1C is in a month and is mine to have fucked up...

Dinner: A Marie Callender's® Fettuccini With Chicken & Broccoli (Chicken Breast in Creamy, Alfredo Sauce) and a can of D.P. This has just not been my day for going low on the salt...

After dinner, a bag of Boulder Canyon Natural Food "Malt Vinegar & Sea SaltPotatoe Chips" and some water.

Dinner: South Beach Diet&trade Breakfast Wraps (All American) and a South Beach Diet&tradeChicken Monterey Wrap and one (1) can of D.P.

27 October 2007

Breakfast: We went to the "Hitching Post" where I had
  1. One egg over medium (I ordered two but got one and got charged for two...)
  2. hash browns
  3. whole wheat toast with grape jelly (another no-no for me...)
  4. a hamberger paddy and
  5. a couple of cups of coffee that wasn't too bad (good actually...)

Lunch:
A "Pappa John's" all meat pizza (well, my half was all meat and Kathie's was meat and awful shit like mushroom, black olives and chunks of onion> and a can of D.P. (of course...)

Snack: Some ice creamme and dark choclate left over from yesterday...

Dinner: A piece of boiled/fried boneless skinned chicken wrapped in a slice of sour dough bread (with low cal mayo), "Cheeze-Its" and a can of D.P.

Pre-Bed Snack: A gin-n-tonic and half slice of sour dough bread with peanut butter.

26 October 2007

Breakfast: ®Aunt Jemima Pancakes and Sausage, coffee and a can of D.P.

Lunch: A piece of boneless, skinned chicken, boiled/fried in it's juices (it was partially frozen when I put it in the pan) and the whole thing between two slices of sour dough bread. I also had some crackers (I'll have to upload a picture of the bag) and a can of D.P. Not too bad

Snack: I walked on the treadmill for 15 minutes and rode the bicycle for 15 minutes. This may not sound like much but given that it is the second time I've worked out since breaking my ankle (physical therapy does not count!), then I feel pleased with this. Feeling low sugarry, I bought a small container of vinilla ice creamme and a bottle of dark choclate syrup and had some. I felt better... (duhh, no shit???)
Dinner: Salad from Dillions, with "chicken" and slices of some kind of sausage; when fried, this "sausage" isn't too bad but it is nearly inedible when "raw". It turns my stomach so I had a piece of sour dough bread with peanut butter and a little bit of vinilla ice creamme. And I wonder why my blood sugar was in the ridiciuos range two hour later?!?!?

Desert: A couple of gin-n-tonics. I have a simple logic for deciding to have a gin-n-tonic or not after testing my blood sugar. It is:

If the level if "good", celebrate with a gin-n-tonic.

If the level is "poor", have a gin-n-tonic anyway

If the level is bad, chastise myself, promise to do better and What the fuck! What have I got to lose tonight? Have two of them gin-n-tonics...

And to think I used to get so disguested with my Father for doing something similiar (save he had "Old Fashions") a decade or so before I was disgnosed...

25 October 2007

Breakfast: Jimmy Dean Breakfast Bowls Sausage Eggs, Potatoes, Sausage & Cheddar Cheese plus (what else?) a can of D.P. and a couple of glasses of coffee...

Lunch: Left over rice pilof, cooked with low sodium chicken broth and with chunks of chicken added (I had boiled the chicken in the broth) and being thirsty, two (2!) cans of D.P.

My wife asked what I wanted to do for dinner. I suggested making
  1. two veggies,
  2. baked fish and
  3. "Something else (i.e. fruit>
Her counter proposal was "let's go to Applebys and you can have a salad. You like Appleby's salads. (This is in recognition that nearly all salads made in town turn my stomach)

I counter with "I can have fahetias{sp}. (Another bad choice but much better than the salad-and-barf choice!)
