30 October 2013 - Day 0

I had a nightmare that wasn't,on the face of it, soo horrible. I dreamed I was in a room with a number of men and someone told me "you'll need to learn German". I  said "fine". Then Kathie said "wake up, you made a strange sound". I said "oh, thanks, I'm fine." Then it occurred to me that I was not fine and that I would have died of a heart attack if she had not woke me up." Later, I told her to wake me up every time she heard me make a strange noise. I did not tell her the content and meaning of the dream!

I resolved to make today the first day of my new life and to save both of us. I "heard" a voice in my head say  I would live for another twelve years.  I had better exercise  and life better to make this prophecy come true...

26 October 2013

Breakfast: at the McPherson Holiday Inn dining room for scrambled eggs, well cooked bacon, SOS on a biscuit, orange juice and coffee
Lunch: at a quick food place called "Freddies" and I had:
  • steak burger
  • fries
  • medium "Diet Pepsi"
  • a "custard with chocolate sauce"
One of the workers went by and I asked "do we have to go to the counter to get the custard". She said "yes" and then probably figured that since I was on the inside, it would be hard for me to get to the counter. She said "I'll get it for you".
It is a heck of a note when some of the best service I've gotten at a restaurant is from someone who isn't paid to provide waitress service. There are a number of sit down places "back home" who could learn serious lessons from this young woman...
Dinner: Since we were at the Kansas Lions State Council meeting in McPherson, our Saturday evening meal was catered by Montana Mikes. This is a buffet and I had my usual:
  • roast beef
  • mashed potatoes
  • mixed boiled broccoli florets and carrots
  • a roll with butter
  • lots of that seductive gravy
  • cold water and
  • apple crisp for desert
After dinner, several of us went to the Montana Mikes bar and I had two bottles of Corona.

______Londo Mollari: "Vir, we are not biologically equipped to handle fast food."
______Vir Cotto: "I know. I know. But it tastes so great going down. Coming up again, it's not so terrific, but-"

As anticipated, I was sick as a dog about an hour and a half after going to bed. It was probably the fat in the gravy and the fatty meat, made worst by the two beers aftger dinner.

I barfed several times and went back to bed. Then, I had to get up and garble to try getting the acid out of my throat. I also ate four Tums.

I went back to  bed and had to get up as I  was coughing up pheum. I stood over the hotel room sink coughing up chunks of yellow and white crap and didn't go back to bed until much later than I wanted to!

This Saturday night meal has been a regular feature twice a year for years and I have blown chunks afterwards since 2004 or 2005. (I suspect diabetes has severely damaged my stomach.) The next time I queue up, I'll skip the gravy and maybe have a very small amount of meat - a taste really!

I'll have to discuss all of this with  my family MD again. Maybe I've finally gotten cause to see the Endocrinology MD (which we don't have in town...)

The food was excellent, the service  excellent and the view unparalleled in town. Every time we go here, we always ask for a table with a nice view. I'm amazed that many people do not seem to care about the view. It this is the case, there are other steak houses in town that have fine food, adequate service and absolutely no view!

Breakfast: spoon sized shredded wheat and coffee

Lunch: ramon with chicken and cold water

Dinner: steak, baked potatoe, broccoli, beer

Snack: I made a "Depth Charge"/"Boilermaker" by putting a plastic shot
glass of whiskey into a large glass of beer (just over a bottle of
LandShark). The shot glass did not drop to the bottom of the beer glass.
Instead, it tilted over on it's side and spilled the "Maker's Mark" out.
I chugged this and it was LandShark and then a shot of Marker's Mark. It
was a waste of two types of booze! I finished the 2nd bottle of beer.
When I went to bed, I was fairly tipsy...

13 October 2013

Breakfast: fried bacon in a sandwich, two eggs "boiled" in bacon fat, and coffee

Lunch: asparagus, baked chicken with dressing and cold water. Later, I had a ½ cup of coffee and went to a local ice creamme place for an inferior tasting small vanilla ice creamme cone with vanilla "ice creamme" dipped in chocolate. It was not worth the $2.17 I paid for it; I paid 18¢ in state, county and city sales tax and once again I wonder: what am I getting for this money???

I felt ill after eatting this "ice creamme" so I know what I got. I got ill!

Dinner: Hungry-Man Boneless Fried Chicken, mashed potatoes, corn and brownie and iced water

Thanks be to the Republician Shutdown of the Fed Gov, we didn't go out to breakfast at IHOP or Inn Pancake House as we normally would on a Saturday. It was rather nice having fast service from a good waiter (me) and knowing how the food was prepared!

34th Anniversary Celebration (6 October 2013)

_____Breakfast: At the Hampton Inn in Dodge City and had:

  • a waffle
  • bacon
  • small amount of oatmeal
  • coffee
  • orange juice

________Lunch: We went to a fairly new place called "Prime on the Nine"(i.e. Prime Rib at a restaurant at the city owned golf course).  The food was truly outstanding and the service excellent!

potatoe/broccoli soup

This is sort of like a "Michigan Salad", in that iit id a chunk of lettuce, with dressing on the side. There was a small tomatoe sliced in half and two cucumber slices.

The Main Course!
A very flavourable and outstanding 8 oz fillet,
mashed potatoes
broccoli
Our waitress asked if I wanted steak sauce I said "no, that would be a desecration of the steak". After eating this steak, this believe was confirmed!

I told our waitress that it probably seemed strange for someone to take pictures of the food but it looked so beautiful. She said she'd seen a number of other customers take out their cell phones and photograph their meals.

_______Dinner:  We were going to have salmon, rice pilaf and boiled carrots but will too full. So, I had boiled spaghetti noodles with catchup and then the rest of the homemade bread and grape jelly and gin-n-tonic.

5 October 2013 or Day Five of Congress Not Doing Their Fucking Jobs!

_____Breakfast:  I cooked:
  • two stripes of bacon
  • two eggs boiled in bacon fat
  • two slices of sour dough toast
  • coffee

________Lunch: large hamburger and bottle of Diet Pepsi
a big slice of home made bread made with homemade cheese whey
a homemade soup of potatoe, whey, milk and flour

Crusty Bread (simplysogood) found on Facebook
3 cups unbleached all purpose flour
1 3/4 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon Instant or Rapid-rise yeast
1 1/2 cups water
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, salt and yeast. Add water and mix until a shaggy mixture forms. Cover bowl with plastic wrap and set aside for 12 - 18 hours. Overnight works great. Heat oven to 450 degrees. When the oven has reached 450 degrees place a cast iron pot with a lid in the oven and heat the pot for 30 minutes. Meanwhile, pour dough onto a heavily floured surface and shape into a ball. Cover with plastic wrap and let set while the pot is heating. Remove hot pot from the oven and drop in the dough. Cover and return to oven for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes remove the lid and bake an additional 15 minutes. Remove bread from oven and place on a cooling rack to cool.
_______Dinner: Being the day before our Anniversary, we went to the Boot Hill Casino Restaurant for dinner and had:

  • salad (they brought the salad plates to the table)
  • soup (they brought the soup bowl to the table but it took a while)
  • excellent prime rib
  • good baked potatoe
  • 2 bottles of Corina beer
The food was good and the service was simply poor. We had to wait several minutes before a waitress wondered over (actually, Kathie flagged her down) and the service during the meal was spotty at best). Sure, our waitress eventually came by to see if we wanted another round of drinks but it took too long.)

This is a Saturday that I have the morning off. Before the bullshit shutdown, we would have decided to go to Inn Pancake House or IHOP for  breakfast. Instead, we are husbanding our money and Kathie had a couple of English Muffins and I cooked my breakfast.

This is day 5 of Congress fucking off not working to solve the Nation's Problems!

Congress! Start doing your damned jobs!

I stand corrected. According to the TV, they are working but are they getting any work done? A rodent running on a wheel is in motion but it isn't going anywhere...
