28 September 2014

Breakfast: cheerios and 2 bananas and coffee

Snack: a piece of dark chocolate and later, a breakfast bacon/cheese pizza and can of Pepsi MAZ

Lunch: Kathie made:
  • sirloin steak
  • baked potatoes
  • asparagus
I had cold water.

Snack: We went to Dairy Queen and both of us had banana splits. We probably should not have but sometimes you just have the "forbidden fruit"...

Dinner: Some boiled boneless skinned chicken with chicken pilaf

Snack: a gin-n-tonic and small piece of dark chocolate...

I was un-hydrated when I went to bed because I woke up feeling like my tongue was stuck to my mouth; I pried my tongue off with my left index finger. About an hour later, this happened again so I pried my tongue off, walked to the kitchen and drank a coffee cup of refrigerator water. This lead to phlegm in my mouth but I felt much better after drinking the water. I thought about a second cup but did not want to have to pee at 2 am...

26 September 2014

Breakfast: oatmeal and coffee

Lunch: boiled then fried boneless skinned chicken and microwaved potatoes and a couple of little Oreo cookies for desert with a can of "Pepsi MAX"

Dinner:  We went to "Prime on the Nine" since Kathie wanted their crab cakes. She really liked them!

I considered the costs of a steak, thought of how fat in a steak can upset my stomach and went for:
  • steak and potatoe soup (I ordered a cup but got a bowl; I will have the leftovers for lunch)
  • spaghetti with meatballs
  • iced water
The food was simply outstanding and the service excellent.

They should have the "wait staff" at both Applebees and the Casino Restaurant come to learn what good service is all about!  I won't talk about the service at "Kate's" or "Central Station Club & Grill" or "The Dodge House" or that Mexican Place at the mall as I haven't been to them is a while and don't know if the service is as wretched as it was several years ago. "Casey's Cowtown" is second to "The Prime on the Nine" for service... For that matter, the three buffets - Inn Pancake House, King's Buffet and the other "Chinese" Restaurant - have fine service given they are buffets.

There is a certain irony to the phrase "wait staff" as we get seated at either Applebee's or the Casino Restaurant and start waiting for the "wait staff" to acknowledge our existence. A waiter/waitress should be at your table in under 30 seconds from the time you are seated. You should not have to flag down a waitress (Applebees, our last visit) or be at minute 8 of your "ten minutes with no service and we walk out" count down (Casino Restaurant, our last visit) when "our" waiter, out of breath, hustled up.

I appreciate that waiting table is hard and poorly paid work but we are the customers and we pay tips so we deserve reasonably good service. In theory, tips are paid for good service. Now, it seems that tips are paid out of pity to the "wait staff" who are paid sub-minimum wage. We've been to foreign countries (England and Venice Italy) where the service was poor but then, they are paid living wages and don't expect or deserve tips; some waiters are insulted that you would even offer a tip. (This is a fact that Kathie could not seem to grasp...)

Dodge City "wait staffs" have a poor reputation for service. Sadly, they have earned this reputation...

With a 102 two hours after dinner, I surely do not need insulin...

19 September 2014

Breakfast: oatmeal and coffee

Lunch: some cookies and coffee

Real Lunch: at McDonalds, for chicken disks, fries, a medium "Diet Coke"

Desert: ice creamme cone from Dairy Queen

Dinner: We went to Prime on the Nine and I had:
  • prime rib
  • baked potatoe "fully loaded"
  • broccoli
  • two bottles of Sam Adams "Octoberfest"
The food was excellent, the service very good and the beer was simply wonderful. This beer was truly not flavoured water or the proverbial "horse urine". The waitress asked us twice if we wanted desert; that is a nice change. She also asked if I wanted another Sam Adams; this is a touch I don't expect from "wait staff" any more. (The "wait staff" simply are not well trained in this half of the state.)

18 September 2014

Breakfast: Red Baron Biscuit-Style Bacon Scramblers, a can of Pepsi One and coffee

Snack: piece of dark chocolate

Lunch: romin and iced water

Snack: after the blood drive: a sandwich, chips, cookies and two little cans of orange juice

Dinner: we went to Applebys...
  • cross cut ribs
  • French fries
  • cole slau
  • iced water
The food was excellent; the service began awful and improved. Taken as a whole, the service was unsat.

The greeter seated us quickly and then we began to wait. "Wait staff" kept going by us. I told Kathie "let's wait another 5 minutes and if w don't get a waitress, we leave and go to Kings."  Kathie waited about 2 minutes and flagged down a passing waitress. She then sent over an old, seasoned, waitress who did a fine job of taking our orders. After a while, a young waitress walked up and said "I am your waitress tonight". She disappeared and we only saw her once again and that was after the old waitress asked if we wanted anything.

The old waitress brought us the bill without bothering to ask if we wanted desert. That was fine as we were too angry to order anything further.

SIGH

Applebys has lived up to the habit of find food and awful service. (A mixture of awful and good equals awful service.)
