Breakfast: "French Stew #2" over store bought mashed potatoes and coffee
This recipe, which I remember from a cook book, is as follows:
Place a layer of stew meat on the bottom of a covered pan. Slice an onion and layer it above the stew meat and then covered the onion with flour. Repeat this until the pan is full or until you run out of stew meat. Put a half tea cup of cheap red wine on the top of this. (The original called for water not red wine.) Cook over a low to medium heat for a couple of hours. Stir well and serve over mashed potatoes. (I don't recall what was called for in the original recipe but this is how I recall my Mother serving a similar stew when I was a teenager.)
Snack: 6 little Oreo cookies and more coffee

Lunch: We went to the local Montana Mike and I ordered:
  • salad with French dressing
  • Fillet Mignon
  • mashed potatoes with brown gravy
  • Diet Pepsi with no ice
We ordered and started waiting and waiting and waiting and finally asked a passing waitress:
"Where are the rolls?"
"The kitchen is behind and we'll bring them out as soon as we can."
I mentioned "passing waitress" as we had not seen "our" waiter in a while. Finally, a senior waitress told us:
"Your main courses will be out in about 3 minutes."
We replied "We haven't had our salads yet."
"Oh, what did you want."
When she brought the salads out I said "we haven't seen our waiter in a while."
"He has gotten behind."This senior waitress brought out food out and "our" waiter wandered by to ask "do you need anything.""No", we replied. By that time, the senior waitress had done this boy's job and done it quite well!

There were some problems with the food:
  • Kathie had asked "our" waiter for extra Ranch Dressing with her sandwich and we had to ask the food runner to bring out some more.
  • My fillet was a bit tough and
  • the mashed potatoes much more chunky that I expect
On the plus side, the senior waitress refilled my "Diet Pepsi no ice" without me asking.
On the negative side, "our" waiter charged us for two soft drinks when we'd ordered only one soft drink...
We tipped but not as much as usual and handed the senior waitress a tip, in cash, and told her this is for you only!

Snack; chunk of dark chocolate

Dinner: Healthy Choice chicken and noodles and for desert, a WalMart no sugar little apple "pie", with some vanilla ice creamme added.

BOTTOM LINE:  Montana Mikes has lost us as customers for weeks if not a couple of months!

21 January 2014

Breakfast: 3 eggs scrambled, mixed with chopped up Tillamook Extra Sharp Cheddar cheese and microwaved for 3 minutes. I drink coffee with this delicious repast...

Snack: some left over homemade bread from this past Friday and dark chocolate and coffee...

Lunch: Healthy Choice chicken and noodles and coffee  and later, some cold water

Dinner: I went to Kerby's and so we had:
  • sirloin steak (I at about ½ of mine)
  • baked potatoe (I ate most of mine)\
  • cold water
Since I trimmed the fat off, didn't eat too much and didn't drink much of anything after dinner, my stomach did not bother me last night. I now suspect it is drinking a beer and water that fills my stomach and helps fat in beef to make their way back up after I go to bed.

Breakfast: at the Salina Romada I had:

  • bagel with grape jelly and peanut butter

Lunch: a mixture of Mexican and an apple desert and cold water

Dinner: A sit down dinner of:

Before dinner I had a gin-n-tonic at the bar.

This was a formal dinner and so I wore my suit. I forgot to bring a tie so I guess I might look "trendy" (or nerdy)

This is the first such banquet meal that I've had roast beef and not had it come back up. It had to have been the small size of the meat and drinking only a glass or two of water afterwards (no alcohol!)

About 2 am, I awoke with intense pain in my stomach,I changed position several times to no avail. I then drank a glass of water and that helped a little. I finally ended up sitting upright until the pain ended. I didn't ask Kathie if we had brought the Tums as I was afraid she'd say "you were supposed to bring it".

Later that morning, I mentioned the heartburn and she said "why didn't you take the Tums?"

  • coffee cake
  • well cooked  bacon
  • scrambled eggs

  • boiled asparagus
  • baked chicken
  • dressing

  • coffee and

Then, a desert of vinialla ice creamme and chucked up dark chocolate.

The first head call was due to nature, the second after my right ankle cramped and the third in response to the large glass of cold water I drank in the treatment of the ankle cramp. This kind of getting up in the middle of the night really disrupts my sleep...

10 January 2014

Breakfast: cheerios and coffee

Lunch: at Long John Silvers for fish, chicken, Cole slaw, a small piece of overcooked corn on the cob, little balls of something and a "Medium Diet Pepsi"

Snack: piece of dark chocolate

Dinner: At the Boot Hill Casino Restaurant for:
  • salad
  • cup of tomatoe bisque (formerly known as "tomatoe soup")
  • a truly excellent 9 oz piece of Prime Rib  (Kathie and I both had prime rib and both thought them excellent!)
  • mashed potatoes with brown gravy (I'm not in a mashed potatoe vice baked potatoe phase...)
  • chocolate cake desert with scoop of vanilla ice creamme
  • iced water
Snack: a gin-n-tonic

The service was reasonably fine.

The prime rib was very tender, very nicely seasoned and cooked to perfection. This was the best piece of steak I've had in many years!

I made a point of telling the waiter and then the manager to congratulate the cooks on the excellent job they did on these prime ribs!

I'm happy to say the prime rib stayed down; normally, red meat that close to my bedtime is likely to come back up about an hour after I go to bed.

Breakfast: I skipped this sucker as I had much trouble sleeping last night. I took pain killers too late and ended up sleeping into 9:30 am. Then, it was clean the kitty litter box, wait for Kathie to call from her sister's house and I didn't leave the house till after 11 am.

Lunch - well - brunch:  I went to IHOP where the service was initially very poor but which became fine after the waitress brought out my "brunch". (I started reading "Ghost Brigades" by John Scalzi while I waited; this is an excellent novel.)  I had something I normally can't have as Kathie lacks the patience to wait while this is cooked...
  • T-bone steak (The steak was quite good.)
  • 3 fried eggs over medium (They were fine; it's hard to ruin eggs!)
  • 3 pancakes (What can I say? They were pancakes!
Snack: I made some chocolate chip cookies and they got a bit burnt. Fortunately, my co-workers will eat them anyway...

Dinner:  Marie Callender's "Honey Roasted Turkey Breast", iced water and one of my chocolate chip cookies...
