Snack: dark chocolate and coffee

Lunch: at the Tri Amigos for:

  • enchiladas and taco

We were seated quickly but "our" waitress took a long time to get around to giving us water and asking for out orders. Then, she was inattentive when it came to filling my "Diet Coke, no ice:".  Yes, there was ice in the drink she brought me.

When I asked for a refill, my wife reminded "our" waitress: "Diet Coke, NO ICE.  "Our" waitress said "yes" and then brought a "Diet Coke, with a little ice".
This cost "our" waitress at tip time.

After eating, I felt much better. I stopped sweating and the hunger greately abated...

22 July 2012

Breakfast: microwaved grits (which turned out pretty bad) and butter plus coffee

Snack: some spoon sized shredded wheat

Lunch:  We went to the Boot Hill Casino Restaurant and I  had:

  • several teaspoons of chili
  • cooked spaghetti and sauce
    • sauteed ham,
    • sauteed garlic,
    • sauteed noodles
    • and white sauce
  • two rolls with butter
  • an overcooked and low on meat chicken back
  • a potatoe casserole
  • vanilla ice creamme with chocolate syrup

I was rather pissed off because the chef went straight to the white sauce without telling me he had red sauce in a lidded pan. I had ham because they did not offer hamburger or even Italian sausage. The food turned out well but I would have been happier with red sauce and browned hamburger.

I went to the "Player Desk" to bitch about this. They told me to go talk to the restaurant. This is bullshit! You would think a "Player Desk" would talk with the restaurant on behalf of the customer. Apparently, they don't agree...
I don't like the way the Casino runs the restaurant. We had to pay for the buffet in advance; this was too much like a quick food place! Kathie had to pay for her glass of white wine and I had to pay for my "Diet Pepsi" in advance!  I could have gotten a "Diet Pepsi" for free on the casino floor but I don't think I could have taken it into the restaurant.
The Casino Restaurant no longer has breakfast buffet so my breakfast club members card is useless. They no longer have lunch off the menu, you must take a buffet lunch or go to the snack bar. As a side note, they replaced a craps table, at the entrance to the casino, with a hot dog stand.
This ain't no shit!  They really did put in a hog dog stand; it totally lacks class.

Dinner:  a can of Healthy Choice chicken and rice soup (definitely emergency rations) and a peanut butter and grape jelly sandwich and a glass of cold water.

A couple of hours after going to bed, I "came down with: vomiting. I don't what I ate but Kathie thinks it was some sliced turkey as she wasn't feeling very well herself. This had the main result of screwing up my sleep and causing me to make a couple of errors at work. This reminds me of what Vir Cotto said:
"...it tastes so great going down. Coming up again, it's not so terrific, but-""

21 July 2012

Breakfast: cherior and coffee

Snack: peanut butter and grape jelly on sour dough and coffee

RIP Mariah Hills Steak & Ale

It seems an excellent restaurant called "Mariah Hills Steak & Ale" has closed.  I hope this is wrong but we went there on 15 July 2012 and the place was locked up.  I asked various folks in the business but they said they'd heard nothing.

I would miss "Ham's Place" very much if he really had to close.

Kathie's Birthday

My wife's birthday cake It was the {deleted} anniversary of her 29th birthday.
Breakfast: spoon sized shredded wheat and coffee
Lunch: at Applebys for:
  • a bowl of "French Onion Soup" (far inferior to what my Father made but not bad...)
  • 9 oz rib eye steak
  • baked potatoe with butter and sour creamme
  • some partially boiled broccoli florets and "baby" carrots
  • two glasses of "Diet Pepsi, no ice" (both actually came without ice!)
The service was good until we tried to pay and the waitress seemed to forget where we were; my wife said she was busy taking a big order...

We didn't see any managers and as I said, the service was fine till we had to wait when we tried to pay.

We had planed on going some place special as it was my wife's birthday; Appleby is simply not that special!

We went to Mairah Hills but they were not open; their sign said nothing of being closed on Sundays. (He may be having financial problems.)

We then went to another place, Central Station but they were closed also. The last three times we went there I had an alergic reaction to their "dry seasoned steaks".  Nothing says "great seasoning quite like said seasoning triggering an asthma attack!" I'm actually glad they were closed...

Snack: We each had a slice of Kathie's birthday cake.
Dinner:  Hungry Man Selects Classic Fried Chicken, awful "mashed" potatoes, a decent little brownie and iced water
Post dinner delight: a chunk of dark chocolate...

  • a three egg "omelet" made in a plastic "omelet" cooker,
  •  two slices of whole wheat toast with grape jelly
  • and coffee
Lunch: at the 3I show:
  • a buffalo burger
  • a kind of potatoe chips
  • can of Diet Pepsi
  • a pastry made with vanilla creamme, whipped creamme and strawberries
Snack: chunk of dark chocolate (I need to buy more...)O

Snack 2: some little Oreos...

Dinner: A Healthy Choice TOP CHEF Chicken Linguini with Red Pepper Alfredo and iced water...

Friday the 13th

Breakfast: first, a egg, sausage and cheese sandwich that a coworker brought in; he brought in a bag of these things and handed them out...

Breakfast (for real): a bowl of cheerios and coffee

Lunch: the left over spaghetti sauce (we were very short of noodles),  and a can of Pepsi One (I'm maxed out on coffee and iced water)

Snack: I worked at the 3I show. The Lions Club provided Lions to work the belt buckle and hats sales stand. I sold a couple of hats. Actually, a couple of men decided they had to have hats, picked up a hat and paid me...

Food wise, I had a Slim Jim, medium Diet Coke, a bottle of water and  refill of the bottle from a drinking fountain. It was hot at our stand and I was definitely feeling heat stress...

Dinner: We went to Montana Mike's and I had:

  • rolls and butter
  • salad with French Dressing
  • steak dinner
    • 12 oz rib eye steak (I took about half home)
    • baked potatoe (also took about half home
    • no desert
  • iced water
The food was excellent and the waitress young, eager, and provided excellent service.

Snack at home: gin-n-tonic

Unfortunately, the excellent dinner was too greasy for my damnably delicate stomach. I blew chunks about two hours after going to bed. A couple of hours after that, I woke up dehydrated and realized that against my desires, I would have to drink some water. I drank the water and this set off an ashma attack. Fortunately, a couple of poofs from the inhaler brought easy breathing after about a minute of miserable breathing...
These are two more items to discuss with my family MD on my next twice annual MD visit...

Top 10 Reasons Americans Are Overweight

The Top 10 Reasons Americans are Overweight:

10. Hey, we get 80 channels of great American TV 24 hours a day, there's no time to exercise!
9. "Girl Scout Cookie Dough" gets better tasting every year.
8. The colossal failure of "Salad King" drive-thru chain.
7. Doing it just to spite Richard Simmons.
6. Addition of a diet soda does NOT mean your triple bacon cheeseburger/chili fries combo is a healthy meal.
5. Americans still unconvinced that it's not really butter.
4. Part of our country's defense strategy: Asses too large to be kicked.
3. Slim Fast shakes taste much better with a scoop of Ben & Jerry's in 'em.
2. One word: Sprinkles
... and the Number 1 Reason Americans are Overweight:
1. "Did somebody say McDonald's?"

Breakfast: cheerios and coffee

Yes, that is ice...

Lunch: at Napoli's at the Garden City Kansas Airport for:
  • warm, home made rolls and butter
  • spaghetti with meat sauce, Italian sausage and cheese
  • two glasses of "Diet Coke, no ice" (photo germane)
The food was excellent and the spaghetti sauce better than what I had at Olive Garden this past Tuesday. The service was reasonably adequate...

Dinner: The rest of the left over salmon from last night. I also had a large boiled potatoe and two ears of corn and iced water. I was saved from the temptation of chocolate by having forgotten to bring any and not having enough change on me to buy anything from the office vending machine...

7 July 2012

Breakfast: we went to "Inn Pancake House" and from the buffet I had:
  • pork SOS on hash browns
  • several link sausages (very well cooked...)
  • about two tablespoons of what was probably powdered egg "scrambled eggs"...
  • coffee and
  • iced water
Lunch; From McDonald's, where I had:
  • a ¼ pounder (I remember them being a lot thicker years ago...)
  • fries
  • a medium "Diet Coke"
  • I split the last of the left over Olive Garden chocolate layer cake from this past Tuesday
Dinner: We went to Dillions today with the intent of buying me some boneless, skinned chicken that I would cook and take to work. Instead, we discovered they had a fresh fish section so I bought some salmon. For dinner, I had:
  • boiled broccoli florets
  • boiled rice
  • baked salmon mixed with the broccoli and rice
  • and iced water
I only used part of the salmon so I guess I'll have to do something like make baked potatoe or boiled potatoe tomorrow.

I am writing these blogs as part of living with diabetes.

_____Breakfast: I had 2 poached eggs and grits. I poached  the eggs in the water meant for the grits and when the eggs looked done, I added butter and cooked the grits. I drank some coffee.

________Lunch: A ham sandwich, chips and a "Pepsi One

_______Dinner:  We went to the Wichita Kansas Olive Garden and I had:
  • their great salad and bread sticks,
  • spaghetti with four cheese meat sauce and meat balls
  • a very fancy multilayer chocolate cake (that was barely above the cost of a single slice)
  • three glasses of "Diet Coke"
  • a very nice piece of chocolate cake from a chocolate cake...

I figure there must be three servings each for both of us.

I had a new four cheese meat sauce with meatballs, on the spaghetti, and it was excellent. The waitress was extremely good.  We were quite happy to have gone to Olive Garden, Wichita, Kansas.

It will be much harder to go back to the blase service back home...

Pre-Bed Snack:  a gin-n-tonic

I am writing these blogs as part of living with diabetes.

Breakfast: cherios and coffee

Lunch: at Long John Silver for the #4 meal of
  • two chicken slabs
  • three fish slabs
  • french fries
  • a medium "Diet Coke"

Dinner: My wife and I are going out to dinner tonight at the Boot Hill Casino Restraunt. Based on previous experience, I have the following expections:

We had a new waiter who enthusiastic and tried very well. He actually succeed but needs more experience.

I had:

  • salad with cottage cheese and thousand island dressing
  • two rolls (there were flies buzzing around near the rolls but I ate them anyway)
  • 10 oz prime rib (quite nice and not much waste - fat
  • an undercooked baked potatoe
  • some chocolate pudding with the salad
  • a really large scoop of vinialla ice creamme with chocolate drizzled on it and whiped creamme
  • a bottle of Budweiser

When I started drinking beer many years ago, I would not touch Bud.  Now, I look at the choice and it is either "lite" or "light" or "Ultra" (watered down pseudo-beer) or something too strong for me. So, Budweiser (not Bud Lite) has become my "go to" beer when I drink outside the house. I am writing this from home and have a Landshark.

FIxing to have dinner again at the Book HIll Casino Restaurant tonight....

I am writing these blogs as part of living with diabetes.

My wife and I are going out to dinner tonight at the Boot Hill Casino Restaurant. Based on previous experience, I have the following expectations:

There are two bars at the Boot Hill Casino. One is the bar by the resteaurant and it does not have Landshark.  The other bar, the "Saloon",  which had Landshark on tap on 18 May 2012, was closed because management decided that Mondays were too slow to have the Saloon manned and working.

The major problem with the Boot Hill Casino is they are divided into sections that are supposed to be self supporting. They are:
  • gambling
  • restaurant
  • bar and Saloon
  • Miss Kittie's Store  closed for the lack of sales of their overpriced items...
The restaurant is retreating from full service and I would not be surprised if it fell  apart completely withing 5 years...

1 July 2012

_____Breakfast: breakfast at the Inn Pancake House for:
  • a small steak
  • small amount of hash browns
  • two eggs over easy
  • two small pancakes
  • coffee and iced water
________Lunch:  balonney sandwich and cold water
_______Dinner:  Kathie's "Mexican":
  • hamburger
  • refried beans
  • shredded cheese
  • sour creamme
  • green onion
  • tomatoe
  • salsa
  • Ketsup
  • 2 bottles of Landshark beer
Pre-Bed Snack:  a couple of little Oreos and cold water...

Excellent service: our waitress at the Inn Pancake House were very attentive and kept refilling our coffee cups and water glasses. She also asked if we needed anything else.

This is quite different from the extremely bad service we had at the Boot Hill Casino Restuarant on 19 May 2012.
