Breakfast: "French Stew #2" over store bought mashed potatoes and coffee
This recipe, which I remember from a cook book, is as follows:
Place a layer of stew meat on the bottom of a covered pan. Slice an onion and layer it above the stew meat and then covered the onion with flour. Repeat this until the pan is full or until you run out of stew meat. Put a half tea cup of cheap red wine on the top of this. (The original called for water not red wine.) Cook over a low to medium heat for a couple of hours. Stir well and serve over mashed potatoes. (I don't recall what was called for in the original recipe but this is how I recall my Mother serving a similar stew when I was a teenager.)
Snack: 6 little Oreo cookies and more coffee

Lunch: We went to the local Montana Mike and I ordered:
  • salad with French dressing
  • Fillet Mignon
  • mashed potatoes with brown gravy
  • Diet Pepsi with no ice
We ordered and started waiting and waiting and waiting and finally asked a passing waitress:
"Where are the rolls?"
"The kitchen is behind and we'll bring them out as soon as we can."
I mentioned "passing waitress" as we had not seen "our" waiter in a while. Finally, a senior waitress told us:
"Your main courses will be out in about 3 minutes."
We replied "We haven't had our salads yet."
"Oh, what did you want."
When she brought the salads out I said "we haven't seen our waiter in a while."
"He has gotten behind."This senior waitress brought out food out and "our" waiter wandered by to ask "do you need anything.""No", we replied. By that time, the senior waitress had done this boy's job and done it quite well!

There were some problems with the food:
  • Kathie had asked "our" waiter for extra Ranch Dressing with her sandwich and we had to ask the food runner to bring out some more.
  • My fillet was a bit tough and
  • the mashed potatoes much more chunky that I expect
On the plus side, the senior waitress refilled my "Diet Pepsi no ice" without me asking.
On the negative side, "our" waiter charged us for two soft drinks when we'd ordered only one soft drink...
We tipped but not as much as usual and handed the senior waitress a tip, in cash, and told her this is for you only!

Snack; chunk of dark chocolate

Dinner: Healthy Choice chicken and noodles and for desert, a WalMart no sugar little apple "pie", with some vanilla ice creamme added.

BOTTOM LINE:  Montana Mikes has lost us as customers for weeks if not a couple of months!

5 October 2013 or Day Five of Congress Not Doing Their Fucking Jobs!

_____Breakfast:  I cooked:
  • two stripes of bacon
  • two eggs boiled in bacon fat
  • two slices of sour dough toast
  • coffee

________Lunch: large hamburger and bottle of Diet Pepsi
a big slice of home made bread made with homemade cheese whey
a homemade soup of potatoe, whey, milk and flour

Crusty Bread (simplysogood) found on Facebook
3 cups unbleached all purpose flour
1 3/4 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon Instant or Rapid-rise yeast
1 1/2 cups water
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, salt and yeast. Add water and mix until a shaggy mixture forms. Cover bowl with plastic wrap and set aside for 12 - 18 hours. Overnight works great. Heat oven to 450 degrees. When the oven has reached 450 degrees place a cast iron pot with a lid in the oven and heat the pot for 30 minutes. Meanwhile, pour dough onto a heavily floured surface and shape into a ball. Cover with plastic wrap and let set while the pot is heating. Remove hot pot from the oven and drop in the dough. Cover and return to oven for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes remove the lid and bake an additional 15 minutes. Remove bread from oven and place on a cooling rack to cool.
_______Dinner: Being the day before our Anniversary, we went to the Boot Hill Casino Restaurant for dinner and had:

  • salad (they brought the salad plates to the table)
  • soup (they brought the soup bowl to the table but it took a while)
  • excellent prime rib
  • good baked potatoe
  • 2 bottles of Corina beer
The food was good and the service was simply poor. We had to wait several minutes before a waitress wondered over (actually, Kathie flagged her down) and the service during the meal was spotty at best). Sure, our waitress eventually came by to see if we wanted another round of drinks but it took too long.)

This is a Saturday that I have the morning off. Before the bullshit shutdown, we would have decided to go to Inn Pancake House or IHOP for  breakfast. Instead, we are husbanding our money and Kathie had a couple of English Muffins and I cooked my breakfast.

This is day 5 of Congress fucking off not working to solve the Nation's Problems!

Congress! Start doing your damned jobs!

I stand corrected. According to the TV, they are working but are they getting any work done? A rodent running on a wheel is in motion but it isn't going anywhere...
