25 July 2011

Breakfast: spoon size shredded wheat and coffee

Lunch: an Arby's chicken sandwich, curly fries and a medium Diet Coke

Dinner: homemade creamme of broccoli soup (broccoli, carrots, potatoe, onion in a chicken broth), a bierock and iced water

24 July 2011

Breakfast: two hot dogs on sour dough bread with coffee

Lunch: at Olive Garden (in Wichita Kansas),
  • salad
  • spaghetti with meatballs and extra meat sauce
  • bread sticks
  • "Diet Pepsi"
Dinner: at the Hu-Hot "Mongolian" Restaurant in Wichita, Kansas where I had some pork, ham, beef, mixed veggies all fried and ate with white rice.

The rice had been sitting too long and was hard. The waitress did bring me extra glasses of diet coke without me having to ask for them. This was not the best Mongolian I've been to (that would be the "Top of the Mar" officer's club on Guam in the early 1980s) and not up to the standards of the second best Mongolian I've had, in Eugene Oregon (yet another reason to take Amtrak out to visit family in Oregon). Still, it was the first "Mongolian" we've had in a while and was worth the eating for that reason alone...

17 July 2011

Breakfast: wheaties and cherios (mixed) and coffee

Lunch: first, the left over boiled broccoli, rice, onion and chicken. Then, I went to the Santa Fe Trail Association meeting and had
  • several pieces of Dillion's fried chicken
  • a small piece of corn bread with corn
  • a small brownie and a piece of apple pie
  • water
Dinner: two hot dogs and a salad, made with lettuce from our garden, and scrimp. It was fine but the lettuce didn't have that "professional" taste because it was a different "breed" of lettuce and water.

Kathie's Birthday (15 July)

Breakfast: From McDonalds, their Number 8
  • 2 breakfast burritos
  • potatoe slab
  • coffee
Lunch: We went to King's Buffet where I had a variety of beef and chicken dishes, rice, ice creamme with chocolate pudding and a couple of "Diet Pepsis, no ice"...

Dinner: We went to Maria Hill Restaurant for Kathie's Birthday and I had
  • salad with Thousand Island Dressing
  • excellent steak (fillet) with "Ham's Special Seasoning" (which was simply outstanding!)
  • baked potatoe
  • "Texas Toast" with honey
  • iced water (I was the designated driver... :-[  )
This place has the best service in town and outstanding food! The only drawback is that it is spendy...

16 July 2011

Breakfast: cheerios and coffee

Lunch: some stewed broccoli, an onion from a friend's garden, chicken and rice
I had a sudden nose bleed between breakfast and lunch. It was rather hard eating lunch with Kleenex shoved up both nostrils. I am writing this on the 17th and have gone back to putting Vasaline in my nostrils in the evening and in the morning. I hope the blood vessels will heal and I can go back to not having nose bleeds. I'll have to add this to my "must discuss" list for when I have my annual physical in early August...

Dinner: one and a half Rubens and a gin-n-n tonic for desert later

Thursday, July 14, 2011

didn't taste too hideous this morning)

10 July 2011

Breakfast: homemade egg, steak, sharp cheddar cheese omlette (using an omlette "form") and coffee

Lunch: 1 and a half peanut butter and grape jelly sandwiches and a can of "Pepsi Zero" (which tastes wretched...)

Dinner: at "Bad Habits", I had
  • "potatoe boats" with cheese, chopped up bacon, peppers
  • salad with lots of croutons and thousand island dressing
  • 12 oz rib eye steak
  • a baked potatoe
  • "Texas toast" with honey and
  • ice water
The food was excellent, the service rather poor. We had to keep flagging down the waitress for extra water, to bring the bill, to collect our payment, to initially take our orders...

I had a gin-n-tonic after we got home; it had been a long day...

8 July 2011

Breakfast: oatmeal and coffee

Lunch: four left over tacos and a bottle of Diet Pepsi

Dinner: Healthy Choice meatloaf meal and water. Later, a peanut butter
and grape jelly sandwich on a slice of sour dough bread and a piece of
dark chocolate.

7 July 2011

Breakfast: McDonald' Big Breakfast of
  • scrambled eggs,
  • sausage patty
  • biscuit and butter
  • coffee
They forgot to put the potatoe slab in...

Lunch: A Healthy Choice roast beef meal and water

Dinner: a peanut butter sandwich and bowl of Healthy Choice chicken and rice soup and cold water

We had originally planned on going out to dinner - I had planned on ribeye steak and potatoes - but Kathie wanted to go to a car faire first. We ended up checking out a Yarus and bought it. It took so long to go through the process of selling them ("trade in") our Echo and waiting for management to get around to talking to us that it simply was to late to go out to dinner after all was completed. Oh, well, we have our annual physical on 2 August so we're better off not having a nice dinner...

We'll go out to dinner on on Kathie's birthday...

Tuesday, July 05, 2011

5 July 2011

Breakfast: left over steak and baked potatoe from the other day and a bit later, two slices of sour dough toast in milk toast and coffee...

Lunch: a six inch subway sub meatball sandwich, potatoe chips and a medium "Diet Coke"

Dinner: a can of Dillions Store brand beef/potatoe stew, a peanut butter and grape jelly sandwich on sour dough bread and iced water. The leftover chocolate milk shake from last night also.

Independence Day 2011

Breakfast: wheaties and coffee

Lunch: four Taco Bell hard shell tacos and a medium "Diet Coke"

Dinner:  Marie Callender's  Country Fried Pork Chop with Cheddar Topped Mashed Potatoes & Gravy with Cinnamon Glazed Apples and iced water
I then had a small chocolate milk shake; I ordered it before eating dinner. Once again, I should have never been offered food by a "I fly" arrangement...

My bad...

Red reports are high by my standards; Blue reports reports are low by my standards.

*I went to a formal Lions Club dinner. Doing my usual Monday/Wednesday/Friday evening blood test (2 hours past forks down) would have been after my bedtime and so I didn't do it. Since I was in a pattern of getting up at 4:15, I was going to bed early (8:15 pm - 8:30 pm).

Snack: at the local movie theater, chips with cheese dip and a medium "Diet Pepsi"

Dinner: a Healthy Choice meal: meatloaf with mashed potatoes, brown gravy, corn, apple desert and water

I would have tested my blood sugar (it being a Friday evening, after all) but my 7 year blood sugar meter apparently has died on me. I suppose I could try hunting down AAAA batteries...

Friday, July 01, 2011

It seemed like "checkout clerk training day" as the clerk didn't seem to know she was supposed to put my and my wife's sandwichs and chips in a plastic bag; her trainer put the sandwichs in and I put the chips in. I also had to ask her for a drink carrying box.  I didn't know the change came out in a change box at a different location that the last time I was in there and she didn't think to say "your change is here".

Dinner: I had a home made mix of:
  • boiled pork chops
  • boiled white potatoes
  • boiled carrots
My evening blood sugar reading, two hours after "fork down" was 111! This is amazingly low for me...c'est la guerre!

糖尿病
"sugar urine disease"

Breakfast: cherios and coffee and four little donuts

Lunch: the local Rat -er- KFC opened back up so I had chicken, mashed potatoes and cottage cheese with brown gravy and desert and a glass of "Diet Coke".  I confirmed I no longer like the "extra crispy" and now like the grilled chicken (and am not all that fond of this either...)

Dinner: another TV dinner: Marie Callender's Meat Lasagna with Ricotta & Mozzarella Cheeses in Hearty Marinara Sauce and iced water

Wednesday, June 22, 2011

23 June 2011

Breakfast: cheerios and coffee

Lunch: at Casey's Cowtown during the Lions Club Meeting:
  • large hamburger

Our usual waitress was gone and we had a substitute. This truly showed, as my wife said "we're spoiled rotten"! We got used to really good service from our usual waitress and didn't really appreciate this until she was not there...

Dinner: Marie Callender's Country Fried Pork Chip with Cheddar Topped Mashed Potatoes & Gravy with Cinnamon Glazed Apples and iced water

21 June 2011

Leader Dog For The Blind LIver Doggie Treat

I I made the "Leader Dog For the Blind" liver treat for dogs. I used
  • 1¼ pound of chicken liver (recipe called for 1 pound but the store carried only this size
  • an egg
  • a premixed dry mix of
    • 1 cup flour and
    • 1 cup of corn meal
PUt the liver and egg in your blender and mix them into a bloody red mix. If necessary, add just enough water to allow the liver nad egg to be blended. Then, mix with the flour and corn meal and spread onto a flat pan sprayed with anti-stick stuff. Bake at 400º for 15 minutes. After it cools, slice it into chunks (not too big, not too small) and store them in your freezer in plastic bags.

The treat fresh out of the stofve and unsliced.
Here is the treat sliced with one piece missing (feed to my dog).

Your dog will love them; mine does!

"dinner" when I get home at 11:15 pm and my dog will whimper and bark
    for more than the usual...

As meals go, it was adequate and one of many...

Late Night Snack: three pieces of beef pizza and bad coffee and a bottler of water

    Thursday, June 09, 2011

    5 June 2011

    Breakfast: a nice one...
    • three egg omelet
    • hash browns
    • 2 slices whole wheat toast with grape jelly
    • coffee
    Lunch: at a Dairy Queen
    • ¼ pound hamburger
    • fries
    • medium "Diet Coke"
    Dinner: which I cooked
    • about 1¼ boneless skinned chicken breasts boiled
    • I cannot remember the "side dish" I had with the chicken
I can't believe just how badly my boiled chicken turned out. If this had been at a restaurant, I would have been bitching for weeks. Instead, it was my own bad cooking and I have half of what I cooked left over. I'll just have to figure some way to cover the taste and finish eating it because, even if it was in the manager's mark down area of the cooler, it was still spendy...

    4 June 2011

    • chicken fried steak
    • 2 eggs over medium
    • hash browns

    3 June 2011

Breakfast: a typical breakfast buffet of scrambled eggs, potatoe thingies, sausage and coffee

Lunch: at the Lawrence Holiday Inn (Lions Convention): bit salad with crumbled feta cheese and bacon chunks

Dinner: It was a nice buffet line and featured:
    • roast chicken (a little dry)
    • bar-b-que ribs (I only took one chunk, which was a shame, because these ribs were excellent. However, I wasn't about to be the only one going back for seconds...)
    • some kind of potatoes and I've forgotten what the were
    • salad
    • brownie on the table
The family of a little girl, who just got over childhood leukemia, brought around chocolate cake as a celebration and thanks for everyone who worried about Taylor (the girl).

    2 June 2011

    Breakfast:  wheaties and coffee

Lunch: hamburger and fries and I've forgotten where...

    Wednesday, June 01, 2011

    31 May 2011

    Breakfast: cheerios and coffee

Lunch: two beef baloney sandwiches and a "Pepsi Zero" (plus coffee)

Dinner: We went to "King's Buffet", a "Chinese/American" restaurant where I had several chicken dishes, rice, some beef, and both a very little bit of pudding and ice creamme for desert.  At home, I had a couple of gin-n-tonics. At the risk of sounding like a lush, I felt like I needed the first one and didn't turn down the second when my wife offered it to me. Somehow, this reminds me of my Mother mixing "Old Fashioned" for my Father and my disgust at this (back in the late 1980s.) Now, I am becoming my Father in more ways than one and my wife her Mother (and my Mother) in various ways...

I still hope to outlive my Father. He died at age 68; I become 60 in 74 days...

    29 May 2011

Breakfast: Jimmy Dean Breakfast Bowls Ham (Eggs, Potatoes, Ham & Cheddar Cheese) and coffee

This was a bit too salty.

Late morning snack (or early lunch?): first, a Jello Mousse Temptations and then  creamme of wheat and coffee

Lunch: we went to the Boot Hill Casino and I had:
    • a very small cup of potatoe, cheese soup (I think it was...)
    • salad
    • their pot roast meal consisting of
    • stewed beef,
    • stewed potatoes
    • stewed carrots
    • and a side dish of corn plus
    • two glasses of "Diet Pepsi"
It was fine but overcooked for my liking. So, I asked my wife to remind me not to have this again for at least six (6) months. I need time to forget my disappointment... :-)

Dinner: A Healthy Choice Meatloaf meal and water. Later, I had a small amount of egg salad on a slice of bread (and gave the rest of the egg salad to my "cleaning service" - my always "hungry-for-human-food" dog...

The place was very crowded and in  spite of this, the service was not too bad...

    Saturday, May 21, 2011

    21 May 2011

Breakfast: pancakes and link sausage (cooked on Kathie's much loved fancy grill) and coffee

    Lunch: Kathie's "Mexican", which is:
    • a 10" soft taco shell with
    • "Mexican seasoned" hamburger
    • mashed re-fried beans
    • shredded yellow cheese
    • and after warming this through in the microwave, I added
    • sour creamme and
    • shredded lettuce.
I had two of these and washed them down with a bottle of Diet Coke. I would have preferred Diet Pepsi but Hastings "only carries Coke products" and we had stopped there for me to check out the new book collection. They had, in hard back, the third book in a John Ringo trilogy. I've got the first two books (also in hard back) in my living room and plan to start reading them in a week or two. Actually, I'm thinking of the 26th...

Dinner: a Healthy Choice meatloaf dinner, iced water and six little Oreos for desert

    20 May 2011

    Breakfast: cheerios and coffee

Lunch: the left over steak and pototoe from last night. It was quite good and I wish I'd left myself more... :-)

Dinner: We went to Montana Mike's and I had:
    • salad with French dressing
    • most of as 16 oz steak
    • most of the baked potatoe
    • nearly all of a roll with butter
The waiter brought us the bill when we were done eating but did not ask us if we wanted desert. I wonder if waiters/waitresses are being trained these day to not ask if patrons want desert? We would have said "no" but that is besides the point. We might have said "yes" and that would have lead to more sales for the restaurant and a bigger tip for our waiter...

    Friday, May 20, 2011

    20 May 2011

    Breakfast: cherios and coffee

Lunch: the left over steak and pototoe from last night. It was quite good and I wish I'd left myself more... :-)

    • 12 oz steak (ate about ¼ of it)
    • large baked potatoe (ate about ½ of it)
    • mixed veggies (ate most of them)
    • iced water...
I simply was not hungry. The food was good and I took it home with me with the intent to have it for lunch the next day. I simply ran out of appetite. Then, several hours later, after going to bed early,  I realized I was waking up because I was hungry. I told myself that if I wasn't hungry enough to eat at 6 pm, I certainly wasn't going to eat at midnight...

The next morning, I had my best blood sugar reading in years: 122. (This is the "normal" value I am supposed to be getting all the time. :-[  )

So, now I know how to get morning blood sugar readings. I simply have to starve myself the night before and wake up feeling hungry several times at night. I'm not sure how long I could maintain such a regimen. It does remind me of how Kathie and I lost so much weight the first year we were married. We were simply hungry all the time. That is why we left Overeater's Anonymous in late 1980 and have never gone back...

    Cinco de Mayo 2011

Breakfast: cheerios and coffee plus peanut butter and grape jelly on a slice of sour dough bread (some of which my dog begged from me...)

Lunch: There is a new Italian place, Napoli's. I had:
    • garlic bread with butter
    • spaghetti with meat sauce and a side order of meat balls
    • "Diet Pepsi" from the tap
Given our waiter was on his first day of waiting, the service was fine. The food was excellent. We arrived at 11:40 am and barely found a parking spot. There were two tables open when we arrived. When we left, there were folks waiting for a table and the parking low was full. It is always good to see a fine new place open. It looks like "Bella Italia" is going to have some serious competition!

Dinner: Marie Callender's Beef and Broccoli (Sliced Beef with Rice & Broccoli in a Savory Sauce) and iced water

Snack: the last (about a quarter of a cup) of the ice creamme and fudge topping from this past Tuesday. AMF - Adios Mah Food!

    Lunch: at Casey's Cowtown
    • chicken fried chicken with brown gravy
    • mashed potatoes
    • roll with butter
    • and iced water
I hate to admit I'm getting tired of Mike Casey's specials and plan on having a simple salad next Wednesday...

I had two glasses of cranberry juice before going to work...

Dinner: A Healthy Choice Classic Meat Loaf (Meat Loaf with Rich Brown Gravy, Mashed Potatoes, Sweet Corn Blend & Apple Cranberry Multigrain Crisp) and iced water.

Snack: a little bit of ice creamme and chocolate syrup left over from last night...

    3 May 2011

Breakfast: home made spaghetti consisting of:
    • left over noodles
    • two hot dogs
    • about ½ a can of tomatoe sauce
    • coffee
I'll have to see if the milk I left at work is still good and still in the office refrigerator...

Lunch: we went to Burger King and I had
    • a ½ pound
    • fries
    • a  medium "Diet Pepsi"
Dinner:  a Healthy Choice Sweet & Tangy Chicken BBQ (Chicken Tenderloins in BBQ Sauce, Sweet Corn Blend, Red Skin Potatoes & Caramel Apple Multigrain Crisp) and water

I was feeling ill yesterday and visited my family MD this morning. He gave me some meds for a bladder infection. . My A1C was 8.1 so Dr. H doubled my Actos  from 15 mg to 30 mg and had me buy a 90 day prescription of this stuff. Given that 30 mg tabs of Actos seems to be much more expensive than Lizard Spit, it looks like I've lost this battle and will be "on the needle" in early August. I hope this note doesn't sound to whiny or too "Drama Queen" or too over the top. The "Drama Queen" is what Kathie called me the last time I got all "over the top" (to use Dr. H's phrase) about going "on the needle".

OK, it just means the battle (control of my A1C) has not been lost; I just need to change my battle tactics...

Regardless, it may be the infection or doubling the Actos but I feel awful.

P.S.:  I was thinking I was running a bit of a fever and was thinking of leaving work early tonight. Fortunately, they had an office party this noon so I ate some (about a third of a cup to a half of a cup) of ice creamme and dark chocolate and immediately felt better. Hummm, so this is what a touch of low sugar might feel like to me? Maybe it just meant the cold ice creamme cooled me off?

    2 Mai 2011

Breakfast: the rest of last night's ham, a fried/scrambled egg, some fried mashed potatoes and coffee

Lunch: at KFC where I had
    • extra crispy chicken
    • corn
    • mashed potatoes with brown gravy
    • chocolate pudding and apple crisp and
    • a glass of "Diet Pepsi"
They got their money's worth from us. I was feeling ill and could not eat much...

Dinner: A Healthy Choice meatloaf (meatloaf, mashed potatoes with  brown gravy, corn and apple crisp) and iced water

    May Day 2011

Breakfast: at the hotel, same food as yesterday

Lunch: We went to a streak buffet (I've forgotten the name) and I had some roast beef (didn't like it so Kathie ate it), a steak mashed potatoes and brown gravy and a  brownie with vinellia ice creamme and chocolate syrup. Also, a couple of glasses of "Diet Pepsi". The service wasn't too good but then it was very busy...

Dinner: a slab of ham and pre-made mashed potatoes with margarine

    30 April 2011

Breakfast: typical buffet breakfast  at the Hyatt (eggs, croissant, potatoes, orange juice, coffee, etc.)

Lunch: at the World War 1 Museum, I had "French Dip" (no Swiss cheese), "French" dip and a Diet Pepsi.

Dinner: at an Italian place near the Hyatt for
    • salad,
    • spaghetti with meatballs and meat sauce
    • and two glasses of some drought beer.

Snack: I split an oil can of Foster's with Kathie.

It was "Prom Season" so we had to eat dinner (evening meal) in a bar, not the restaurant and we were told that if we wanted to go to the rotating lounge, drink and watch the city "move around", we would have to put our names on a waiting list. We're not interesting in being held hostage by high school Prom kids and we went to our room...

    29 April 2011

Breakfast: the last two slices of
    • my homemade egg,
    • cheese,
    • ham quiche
    • and  coffee

    Lunch: at Brahms,
    • a fancy hamburger with Swiss cheese,
    • ham and
    • some kind of sauce,
    • fries and
    • a chocolate milk shake
Dinner: in Kansas City Mo, at the German restaurant for
    •  salad,
    • roast beef,
    • stewed red cabbage,
    • mashed potatoes,
    • a roll,
    • two glasses of a fancy Australian beer
    • and a chocolate desert.
The food was excellent, the service quite good and the cost about equal to the last three (3) times we went out to dinner in Dodge City. I mean it was very expensive!

Then, we went to the Hyatt's rotating lounge and I had two strawberry drinks. In keeping with the trend started with dinner, this was the highest bar bill I've ever had! My two drinks, Kathie's two red wines and the price was about $43!  Ouch Ouch Ouch

    Thursday, April 28, 2011

    28 April 2011

Breakfast: home made quiche and coffee

    Snack: two chocolate chip cookies

Lunch: a mix of boiled (old) broccoli, a boiled potatoe and cubed ham and a bottle of Diet Pepsi.

Lunch: something probably for me but which I like...
    • beef ballona sandwich
    • CHEEZE-ITs
    • bottle of Diet Pepsi
Dinner: Kathie made speghetti with a white sauce with shrimp. It was fine but I really didn't enjoy it so I didn't mind giving scrimp to my dog...

    25 April 2011

    Breakfast: oatmeal and coffee

Lunch #1: bag of popcorn (I forgot to bring the can of Campbell's Tomatoe soup I had planned on drinking) and coffee

    Lunch #2: at McDonalds,
    • ¼ hamburger,
    • fries,
    • small chocolate Milk Shake (too much actually and too sweet... :-[ )
Dinner: A Healthy Choice chopped roast beef, chopped potatoes, brown gravy, carrot disks, apple crisp and water

I had one of the best evening scores I've seen in quite a while: 131

Once again, proof I don't understand this diabetes. I would have thought the choc shake at lunch would have jacked it but I would probably have been wrong.

    Easter 2011

Breakfast: spoon sized shredded wheat and coffee

Snack: peanut butter and jelly sandwich, and coffee

Lunch:  Kathie had a craving for lobster tails so we went to the Casino Restaurant. There, we discovered they were running an Easter Brunch. So, of course, we tried it!  The price was $12.99, which was less than the lobster tails and less than the steak I had been thinking of getting. So, I had:
    • omelet with
      • sauteed onions,
      • ham,
      • bacon,
      • cheddar cheese
    • two slices of ham
    • scalloped potatoes
    • roast beef wrapped around some filler (the beef was fine, the filler not; Kathie didn't like the filler either)
    • a Mombasa (orange juice and champagne)
    • Strawberry dakeria
Kathie was the "designated driver" and I was the "designated drinker" (for a change!)

Dinner: Healthy choice meatloaf and water then, some cottage cheese with grape jelly. This looks bad but is really quite nice. It reminds me of the cottage cheese and homemade (Grandma Maxson made) strawberry jam that Grandpa Maxson and I enjoyed.

    Easter 2011

Breakfast: spoon sized shredded wheat and coffee

Snack: peanut butter and jelly sandwich, and coffee

    Lunch:  to be determined

    23 April 2011

    Breakfast: wheaties and coffee

Lunch: Ramon noodles with a can of chicken added and to drink, a cup of coffee

    Snack: small bag of popcorn

    Dinner: at Applebys,
    • cup of "French" onion soup
    • fajitas with steak and chicken
    • sour creamme and cheese
    • iced water
Although it took several minutes for "our" waiter to show up, he was quite adequate. I did have to hold up my water glass to get a refill. In this waiter's defense, we came in just before a crowd of hungry people and the "wait staff" got fairly busy...

    22 April 2011

_____Breakfast: three scrambled eggs with left over (cooked) hamburger and coffee

    • medium "Diet Pepsi"
    _______Dinner:

    Pre-Bed Snack:

    21 April 2011

Breakfast: At Burger King, their SOS but I didn't finish the potatoe thingies. I took them home.

Lunch: We went to Pizza Hutt and I had a slice of meat pizza, a slice of apple pie pizza, salad and vinalli pudding and two glasses of "Diet Pepsi"

Dinner: I was feeling sick to my stomach so I had milk toast, then the left over baked potatoe from the day before and a bottle of MGD.
