13 October 2011

Breakfast: Jimmy Dean Breakfast Bowls: Bacon (Eggs, Potatoes, Bacon & Cheddar Cheese) and a Pepsi One.

Lunch:  at Casey's Cowtown, a large hamburger, fries and two glasses of "Diet Pepsi"

Dinner:  at the reopened "Bad Habits":
  • split an order of potatoe skins with cheese, bacon etc with my wife
  • salad with French dressing
  • 10 oz ribeye steak (I ate about half of it)
  • baked potatoe (I had about half of this)
  • Texas toast with honey

The service was very, very good and the food quite good. Given the place was very crowded, I  was surprised at how fast the food came out.

11 October 2011

Breakfast: cheerios and coffee

Lunch: meat chilli and coffee

Snack: some peanut butter crackers

Dinner: From the Rat, a 3 piece box of "extra crispy" chicken, a very
small container of mashed potatoes and brown gravy, a biscuit with grape
jelly and water.

About an hour after going to bed, this dinner talked back to me and I
had another bout of vomiting. This is the first time is a couple of
months and was a reaction to eating greasy food too soon before going to
bed. (I can eat at the Rat for lunch without stomach problems.)

7 October 2011

_____Breakfast: Burger King SOS on bisquits, potatoe thinges and coffee
________Lunch:  at King's Buffet for rice, various chicken and beef dishs and desert (and Diet Pepsi)
_______Dinner:
Pre-Bed Snack:

32nd Anniversary

_____Breakfast: milk toast and coffee
________Lunch:  at the new Italian place,
  • bread dipped in olive oil
  • spaghetti with meat sauce and meatballs
  • 2 glasses of "Diet Pepsi"
_______Dinner:  from Miraha Hills Restaurant, where I had:
  • 10oz Fillet Miyon with "Ham's special seasoning" (very nice)
  • baked potatoe with butter, cheese and bacon
  • iced water
The service was good and the food very, very good. It was quite expensive but worth every penny we spent. We also had the strange feeling of seeing a couple of the richer folks in town come in after us. The first was an MD was is also head of the rodeo; the second was our dentist (they came in with their wives).

As I said, the food was very, very good and the service good but we simply can't afford to go there often. Sure, we arranged to get a table with a great view of the golf course; normally, any view we get is of a busy street. I suspect the next time we go here will be my wife's birthday next July...

28 September 2011

Breakfast: cheerios and coffee

Lunch: at Casey's Cowtown for the Lions Club meeting:
  • fancy chicken soup, a cup of
  • salad
  • two pork chops with fancy sauce
  • baked potatoe with butter and sour creamme
  • two Budweiser
I was appalled by the poor choice of beers at the Boot Hill Casino Restaurant. With the exception of Budweiser and another beer (whose name I've forgotten), all their beers were "light" or "lite". (At least they didn't have any Michelob, which is really another way of saying no Michelob "Ultra" [piss poor}.) So, I went with two Bud; one with the appetizer and the second with the pork chops. It wasn't too many years ago that I would have turned up my nose at a Bud but then I could have bought
  • Tooth's KB Lager
  • Henry Wenihart Private Preserve
  • Michelob Lager
  • MGD
  • Fosters (in the "oil can")
  • and decent local micro brew beers!
Now, we've turned into a nation of phonies obsessed with "Low carbs", who don't drink real beers. If you want to do some real drinking, have a couple shots of vodka and chase them with cranberry juice. The vodka gives you the Ethanol (C2H5OH) and the cranberry juice flushes your bladder, which is a property of beer. I've drank cranberry juice to see what the fuss was about. I imagine it would go down smoother after a couple of shots.

Kathie and I went to Milwaukee a couple of years ago (a USA-Canada Lions Leadership Forum) and went to a couple of bars. Their selection of real beers was fantastic! We surely could use bars with such a old fashioned, manly, beer selection.

25 September 2011

Breakfast: two orders of home made SOS on fresh baked biscuits, sausage patty with orange juice and fresh brewed coffee.

The Santa Fe Trail Association symposium sponsored a trail breakfast. This was a couple, re-enactments, who go around the country with a cattle drive cook wagon and cook food in the old style. That is, the hamburger and sausage were cooked over a wood fire and then the SOS was cooked over one of the two wood fires. I had SOS on biscuits at Burger King yesterday and barely finished it; this SOS on biscuits was so good I went back for seconds!

There was just something about eating food cooked over a wood fire in an outdoors setting that was so much nicer than Burger King.

Lunch: We went to Montana Mikes and I had:
  • we split an order of onion rings (actually, the order came so close to our meals coming out that we took nearly all of the onion rings home with us...)
  • salad with French Dressing (I had ordered Thousand Island...)
  • a rib eye steak medium rare (I had ordered medium...)
  • baked potato with everything on it (this came along just fine!)
  • rolls and butter (I used about ½ of one to sop up meat juices) and
  • a glass of "Diet Pepsi", no ice The first glass was fine. Then, I asked for a refill and it came back very weak; they were basically running out of syrup and the waitress said "we're out of syrup"...
We asked and they actually had all the ingredients for the "Mudslide" desert (i.e. brownie, ice creamme, whipped creamme, fudge syrup and - what a waste! - a cherry) today. The pity is they had all the ingredients and that both of us were stuffed and could not have eaten this desert. This is the first time in many years they have had everything as well as the brownies not being burnt!

Dinner: a box of marie Callender's Meat Lasagna and iced water plus a small Oreo cookie. (I will have something better for dinner tomorrow night...)
Then, several  more as post dinner snacks...

25 September 2011

Breakfast: at Burger King for their SOS on biscuit and potatoe thingies and coffee (I discovered I've gotten very tired of this meal and think I'd rather have my home made SOS on cast iron fry pan fried shredded potatoes).

Lunch: at the Santa Fe Trail Association lunch, at the new convention centre, where I had
  • a ham sandwich with tomatoe slices, cheese, slice of lettuce and mayo and
  • a bottle of water
The only drinks the convention centre provided were Pepsi, Dr. Pooper Pepper, Diet Dr. Pooper Pepper and a couple of minor brands. I told their head chef that I could not drink regular soda as it had too much sugar and that I didn't think Dr. Pepper was drinkable. He seemed puzzled by my attitude...

I wasn't pleased with how they let the coffee run out during the convention speeches and how the large and excellent chocolate chip cookies ran out very quickly. They simply did not put out enough (I wonder if this is a systemic flaw for the special events centre catering?)

Dinner: Healthy Choice Classic Meat Loaf and iced water...

I felt more hungry after eating this dinner and got a bit of a case of the shakes...

23 September 2011

Breakfast: cherios and coffee

Lunch: the very last of the home made broccoli, potatoe, carrot "soup", with two ¼ hot dogs and a can of Pepsi One.

Dinner: We went to the Santa Fe Trail Association Convention dinner at Boot Hill Museum where I had:
  • chilli seasoned potatoe chunks
  • chips and salsa
  • bar-b-que sandwich
  • desert
  • a small glass of white wine

22 September 2011

Breakfast: cheerios and coffee

Lunch: homemade broccoli, carrot, potatoe, onion "soup" with a ¼ pound hot dog and more coffee
While eating, I realized I was shaking, had a cold sweat and was incredibly hungry. It was enough to make me think I had hypoglycemia...

Snack: small bowl of orange sherbert and a couple of mouthfuls of bad coffee

Dinner: We attended the Santa Fe Trail Association dinner held at Fort Dodge. I had:
  • a couple of buffalo "hamburgers"
  • some chunks of buffalo hump (very tough and a fine test of my teeth!)
  • peach cobbler
  • iced water
Snack: small bowl of orange sherbert and a mug of cold water. I took a muslinex but this didn't help, my breathing was labored when I went to bed and laid down. I had to use the asthma inhalator to get normal breathing back. This was the fourth night in a row I have to use the inhaler...

  • spegethie with red sauce and two meat balls
  • two glasses of "Diet Pepsi"
