choclate ice cream?

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup cocoa
  • 3 tbsp corn starch
  • 2 cups milk or light cream
  • 1/2 cup choclate chips
  • 1 tsp vinelli

  • If this really is an ice cream recipie, then those experimenting with it would have put the ingredients into the proper mixer and make it.

    28 July 2006

Breakfast: Bowl of oatmeal (no milk) with splenda and brown sugar, a toasted English Muffin and a couple of small rolls (left over from the office luncheon of yesterday - I didn't attend since I didn't work yesterday) and a cup or two of coffee.

Lunch: South Beach Diet Caprese Style Chicken with Broccoli (Breast Srips with rib meat in a Marinara Sauce with ricotta sand mozzarella, served with broccoli)

Dinner: [projected to be a salad...]

and so it was! A salad, that is...

My wife went to the local McDonald. She went to the drive up and ordered:

"One Asian salad with broiled chicken and one club salad with crispy chicken."

The clerk replied "did you say two Asian salads, one with crispy chicken and one with broiled?" "

No! I said one Asian salad with broiled chicken and one Club salad with crispy chicken!"

"Thank you, please pull up to the next window."

She got home and I got the two salads out. The highly competient staff at McDonals had given her two Asian salads. That's fine for her, she likes the green crap they put on those Oriental -er- Asian salads. I don't!

She was all upset and appologizing and I was telling her "it isn't your fault! They fucked up at McDonalds! Anyway, next time we go to the Wyat Earp McDonalds, we're going inside! Not that that helps much; the last time I ordered "Asian salad with broiled chicken and Club salad with crispy chicken" they screwed it up and I ended up having to tell the "crew" a couple of times what I wanted...

    Rant off...

    27 July 2006

Breakfast: Aunt Jamami pancakes and sausage, coffee.

Lunch: Dillions for salad and a DP...

Dinner: Crockpotted Beef Strogneoff and a glass of water and a Mic and later, a gin and tonic...

    Wednesday, July 26, 2006

    26 July 2006

Breakfast: Cream of wheat, two slices of whole wheat toast with mar-jar-in and a cup of coffee.

Lunch: Casey's Cowtown with the Lions: Chicken Fried Chicken, mashed potatoes with white gravy, corn and a roll. I had a glass of DP with lunch and had to wait so long for the refill that the little bits of chicken and potatoe and roll I was hoarding were quite cold by the time our waitress managed to get around to bringing me the 2nd glass. I'm thinking of switching to ice water in the future since I can always refill from the flash on the table. Aside from that, the service was quite adequate. (Can you say "damnation by faint praise? Of course you can!")

Dinner: Apllebes for the chicken/steak faheti combo with rice and cheese and a very decadent cupcake, vinilla ice cream and rich choclate sauce. I had a glass of ice water with lots of lemons squeezed into the water and made the sacriface of drinking the "mistake"...

Applebys, where we were placed at a table without a waitress. It's rare that Applebys has service worst than Casey's but there you have it! Atg least at Casey's, we had a waitress who came around. We flagged down a waitress who took our food and drink orders. Then, the "assigned" waitress showed up. The food menu went through but the drink order was completely screwed up. They brought the wrong kind of wine to Kathie but rather than return it, I made the sacriface of drinking it myself...

It was a glass of Mountain Home White Zin (my favourite!)

It's sad when the service at Casey's is better than the service at Applebys...

The Guam Hilton recipies for "Long Island Ice Tea" and "Mudslide"

______I wrote the Guam Hilton and asked about their recipies. I don't have a copy of the letter I sent but I do have their lovely reply. This can be read at: http://showcase.netins.net/web/chargerhorse/Hilton1991.pdf
______Here are two other recipies, from Guam, for the same two drinks:
    http://users.pld.com/mwbell/recipies.htm
______I'll have to "gin up" a pdf version of this file and save it and reference and I'll probably just "cut and paste" the actual recipies...

    25 July 2006

Breakfast: Aunt Jamami pancakes and sausage, a cup of coffee and a DP.

Lunch: A McDonald's club salad and part of a six-piece of McChicken "nuggets" and a medium "Diet Coke".

    Monday, July 24, 2006

    24 July 2006

Breakfast: We went out...two eggs over medium, hash browns, whole wheat toast with grape jelly and two-three cups of coffee and a glass of water.

Lunch: Two large hotdogs on two slices of whole wheat bread and a DP.

Post Blood donation "snack": A small bowl of watered down potatoe soup and several carrots and a couple of cream filled cookie thingies. Also, a cup of weak iced tea and a couple of cups of water.

Snack: Some folks came in to work on our radar (WSR-88D) and brought in fresh Krispi Kreme donuts. I can now see why folks love those fuckers: when fresh they are irrestable and seem to meld in my mouth. Not exactly what a diabetic needs to be eatting. However, four of these fuckers proved to be completely irrestable.

Dinner: Healthy Choice Beef Pot Roast (with Gravy, Carrots, Roasted Potatoes and Apple Raisin Crisp). They seem to have forgotten the "Raisins" and I can only "THANK YOU!" and hope this is a trend!

Pre-Bed snack: this and that and nothing much of anything...no booze...

a recipie for "Homemade Bailey's Irish Cream"

Homemade Bailey's Irish Cream as copied from Irish-recipies

    Ingredients:

    1 pint half and half
    2 eggs
1 1/2 cup Irish whiskey (Canadian Club works too)
    2 tblsp. chocolate syrup
    dash cinnamon
    1 tsp. vanilla

In blender, combine all the ingredients. Blend until mixed well,
serve cold. Stores up to two weeks in the fridge.

I'm going to try this but the notion of raw eggs bothers me. I think I'll go with "egg beaters" instead.

    23 July 2006

Breakfast: Owens® "Sausage Gravy & Biscuits" (White Gravy with Pork Sausage & 2 Biscuits) and a can of DP. (I had initially tried going to McDonald's but the drive up line extended damn near to the road. I then drove around and thought of parking. However, the parking lot was quite full and more customers were entering. I decided "fuck this shit" {sort of} and drove over to Bugger -er- Burger King. There wasn't much of a line but they're doing road destruction -er- re-engineering and it simply was too much of a hassle to go in...

I bought the Owens barf-on-a-biscuit at the 14th Street Dillions...)

    Lunch:

and rice wrapped in cabbage leaves and two glasses of
    water.

Dinner: Dillion's salad and a glass of water.

Lunch and Dinner are in odd colours since I didn't write down

    Kathie's chicken in soy...

Kathie took some chicken thighs and removed the skin. Then, she put this in a large pan, put in maybe 2 cups of soy sauce and covered the chicken with water. She took a piece of ginger root and chopped up maybe 1/3 cup of the ginger root. She also added some sesime seeds and several tablespoons of chopped up garlic.

This was brought to a boil for seveal minutes, covered and allow to boil for several minutes and then simmered for about an hour. After that, we brought the liquid to a boil for several more minutes.

You can buy the ginger root at any good Oriental -er- "Asian" food store.

Post dinner: Another gin and tonic and probably yet a third. Alchohol isn't a carb and so alcohol isn't as bad for me as I used to think; nonethe less, my fahter felt the same and the diabetics heklped kill him...)

    Wednesday, July 05, 2006

    5 July 2006

Breakfast: Aunt Jamami pancakes, sausage and a cup of coffee...

Lunch: At Casey's: a large hamberger, with strips of bacon, french fries and two Diet Pepsis. (Unlike last week, the first glass actually tasted like a Diet Pepsi. Unfortunately, the waitress is a bit overworked and I had to remind her of my free refill twice; at Montana Mike's, a fresh glass would have been brought out before I'd finished my first glass. Mike Casey has still got a continuing problem with his "wait staff"...)

Snack: I finished off the rest of my "no fat/no sugar" cooked choclate pudding.

Dinner: Boiled rice, can of cream of chicken soup, big can of cooked chicken, shredded cheese and water added. With dinner, I had oyster crackers. I ate about 7:25 (roughly 7.5 hours after eatting lunch) and this was a mistake. I ate too much and had an upset stomach for most of the evening...

Tomorrow night I'm taking a "Healthy Choice" meal...

    24 June 2006

Sampling: I made some home made choclate ice cream last night. The recipie was taken from something I copied off the internet. I lost the actual recipie and kind of invented/remembered the recipie...

Breakfast: Lean Cuisine lemongrass chicken (roasted chicken tenderloins in lemongrass-coconut sauce, brown rice and vegeatbles (I wasn't bothered by the "coconut", which I didn't know about until I typed in this note...)

Snack: Cheese-its and most of a DP.

Lunch: Healthy Choice Chicken Parmigiana Breaded Chicken Breast with Tomato Sauce and Cheese, Fettuccini Pasta and Broccoli Quite good!

    Friday, June 23, 2006

    23 June 2006

Breakfast: Lean Cuisine Swedish Meatballs with pasta in a savory gravy and a DP and a cup of coffee...

Snack: Three banannas (not too ripe), a DP and another cup of coffee.Lunch: At Wendy's: Half pound "classic" hamberger, with baked potatoe, Diet Coke.

Dinner: A salad from 14th Street Dillions and water. My blood sugar was 116 two hours after I finished eating so I guess these salads are good for me. I'm just getting so tired of eatting them...

    Thursday, June 22, 2006

    22 June 2006

Breakfast: Two big hotdogs boiled with white hominy and two DP. It tasted good going down and definitely settled in and let me know it was there for the rest of the morning...

Lunch: At the Boot Hill Museum dining room: a briskey samwhich, fries and a Diet Pepsi. It was quite good...

Dinner: A "14th Street Dillions" salad my wife made and a bottle of "Miller Genuine Draft" (cold filtered) beer. None of that Pisswiser* or Coors and definitely none of that "lite beer" crap!!!
    * How could a company which makes the magnificant Michelob create Pissweister -er- Budweiser and the perverted "Michelob Ultra"???

    Wednesday, June 21, 2006

    21 June 2006

Breakfast: Spoon sized shredded wheat, two banannas, artifical sweetner, 2% milk and coffee.

Snack: A bag of those 50¢ crackers from the machine in the office "kitchen".

Lunch: Chicken Fried Chicken, mashed potatoes with white gravy, roll and cottage cheese. The waitress said they had corn for the veggie so I ordered the CFC; they had green beans. I asked her to replace the green beans with cottage cheese; she gave the plate to another diner and brought me what I wanted. She was a good waitress, who provided Good Service! I told her this in front of Mike Casey's office manager (who was working the till).

    Tuesday, June 20, 2006

    20 June 2006

Breakfast: Aunt Jamami pancakes, low cal syrup and low cal margarine and a couple of cups coffee...

Lunch: "Stouffer's LeanCuisine baked chicken chicken tenerloins with cornbread stuffing & whipped potatoes" I liked it. Too bad I was hungry again less than 10 minutes after finishing. I'll just have to distract myself...

Dinner: Three small Pan fried sound steaks (I picked on appearance and the price reduction from just over $8 to just over $5 - my wife said "you got very tender meat". It was an accident...), boiled corn, boiled carrots and here we split: Kathie had the left over rice pilof and I had the left over "store bought" mashed potatoes. We both liked ouor choices. My drink of choice was cold water...

I had bought some melons for desert but neither of us "had enough room" for them. So, we skipped it...

Two hours after finishing eating, I tested my blood sugar level: it was 174. This is high but not too high given I'd eaten corn and mashed potatoes. A confirmaton this wasn't too high is the simple fact I slept through the night without having to get up even once to pea. Since post-bedtime urination is natures way of dumping excess sugar, I can only conclude the carrots and steak trumped the corn and mashed potatoes (if that is possible...) !

    Monday, June 19, 2006

    19 June 2006

Breakfast: cream of wheat, 2 pieces of dry toast and coffe (several cups...)
Lunch: homemade glop: leftover rice pilof, canned chicken, brocolli flowers and DP.

    Lunch: Unnoted...

Dinner: salad (good for me), various toppings (not so good for me) and no sugar cooked Choclate Pudding (sort of good for me) with choclate chips - many choclate chips - add (not so good for me). So, how did I do scorewise?

ADDENDUM or is it answer written on the 20th: Hummm, got a 121 on the blood sugar reading the next morning after a 13 (or so) hour fast.

Ouch!!! On the one hand, this isn't going to help on the November 2006 A1C test but on the other hand, that is five (5!) months from now and plenty of time for me to be good...

    Sunday, June 18, 2006

    18 June 2006

Breakfast: Aunt Jamama pancakes and sausage and a DP (we were still out of coffee at work).

Snack: Another bag of CHEEZE-ITs and my second (2nd cup of coffee. (One of the two people with the key to the "coffee locker" was working and broke out a fresh can off ground coffee!)

Lunch: Healthy Choice Sweet Bourbon Steak Cooked Beef Strips in Bourbon Sauce, Garlic Mashed Potatoes, Vegetables and Peach Dessert (quite good!)

Snack: A microwaved slice of bullona, with mayo on it and a DP.

    Saturday, June 17, 2006

    17 June 2006

Snack: A small piece of last night's roast beef. It tasted "OK". Last night, I pressure cooked/boiled a $9.09 roast. It didn't fully cook by dinner time (which was my fault) so I left it in the pressure cooker for another couple of hours; I wanted to get it well cooked! I asked "the wife" to put it away when it had fully cooled off and then had to go to bed around 8:30 pm (I get up at 4:15 am). She woke me up around 1:30 am and when she got back from the toilet I asked her "did you put the roast away?" Her reply was "oops! and then she trundled off to put the roast in the refrigerator. She was a little pissed that I was pissed off at her for forgetting this.

    I told her I wasn't anger but I guess I still am...

Breakfast: Aunt Jamami pancakes and sausage, some low sugar syrup and margarine and a DP. :(Couldn't have any coffee as we're out; one person who could resupply is in Topeka and the other has today off but will be in tomorrow morning...) Maybe I'll be reduced to stealing a bag of black tea from an old box in the office kitchen...

Snack#2: I'm hungry; I'm going to have a Sunshine CHEEZ-IT Baked Snack Crackers.

Lunch: Applebys where I had the 9 oz sirlon steak, garlic mashed potatoes, somewhat crispy boiled brocolli flowers (with a hint of cheese and crotons on them) and glasses of Diet Pepsi. Since this was a date - and meant to be a pleasant occasion! - I ordered a desert for Kathie and me. She said she didn't want any but I've only known her for 31 years and figured she like it.

    She did...
Let's see, how would I compare this "chain" with the "hometown made restraunt owned and operated by a 'local boy'?"

    1. The food was comparable but
    2. the service was much better!
Based on that, you can see why my wife said about Casey's "we won't be going back there for dinner for a while!" Amen to that!

I wrote a bit of a diabribe about the service last time we were there...

Dinner: We went to the Pratt Lions Club 85th Anniversary. The meal was roast beef, bar-b-qued beef, cheedar cheese mashed potatoes with chunks, a hamberger bun and choclate cake with choclate frosting. It was really quite good!

As an aside: I believe it was eating the pieces of "bad" roast beef that gave me a serious case of diarehia (literally the Hershey drips) and I'm going to wait a few days before discretely dumping the left over roast beef under the trees in the neighbor's yard. (It is a vacant house.) It might cause trouble for the neighborhood stray dog's but it seems better than shit canning or dropping it through the sink garbage shredder...

    16 June 2006

Breakfast: Cream of Wheat and 2 cups of coffee.
    ___Snack: Handful of stale cashews.
___Lunch: Healthy Choice Chicken Brocolli Alfredo
Chicken Breast and Broccoli in Alfredo Sauce with Fettuccini Pasta
__Dinner: Roast beef, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn and boiled brocolli flowers. Water?

I worked 2.5 hours overtime so I didn't get away from the office until 3:30 pm! This meant that the roast I bought from Kerby's Beef was frozen. So, when I got home, I put it in the microwave to thaw. (I set it for 20% for 33 minutes 33 seconds) and left to do some running around. "Running around" meant taking 2 books and a music DVD (Gershwin music) back to the library and then go to the 14th Street Dillions for premade mashed potatoes, brocolli and something to take for lunch tomorrow. (I had forgotten that I still have a Healthy Choice TV in the freezer). Going to the library turned out to be better than I thought!

The book I thought was "intra-libtrary loan" was actually one the library had bought!
I was allowed to renew it!

I decided I needed some nice soft and easy to listen to music: I checked out "The Best of Alice Cooper"! Ok, so it's not "easy listening" but then I'm not in the mood for easy listening...

Finally! I've got a copy of "Official Star Trek Cooking Manual"!

Back in 1978, I bought a copy of the OFFICIAL STAR TREK™ Cooking Manual. Then, a college friend visited (in the mid 1980s) and we haven't seen the book since...

So, I checked it out via intra-library loan. The only library that seems to have this book is the Klamath Falls, Oregon, library. I know because I checked it out three times. I tried buying a copy of this book but the cheapest I could find was a used book in the $40 - $50 range. I didn't buy it then...

Since then, the general range of prices seems to be in the $80+ range. I didn't buy...

Fortunately, I had left a "email me when the book arrives" notice with Powell's Books of Portland. I read the email the day after it was sent and bought that copy immediately. Boy, am I happy!

My copy cost me just under $15 and the postage was about $350. No, I didn't pay Kansas state sales tax; I bought this book from an Oregon "vendor". It seems to me that since I have to pay sales tax when I buy in Kansas, it is only fair that I pay the sales tax levied at the point of sale. The point of sale was not in Kansas...

    15 June 2006

Breakfast: spoon sized shredded wheat with 2% milk and Splenda.

Snack: A Bar S Beef Jumbo Jumbos - a quarter pound hot dog - with ketchup and mustard and a DP.

Lunch: From Sonic, a hamberger, fries and a Diet Pepsi. After I got home, I ate a very small amount of the choclate pudding I cooked up yesterday.

Dinner: Salad and maybe a 1/2 cup of left over homemade choclate pudding. It was fine with milk and some vinilla extract added...

    choclate pudding

I found a Chocolate Pudding recipe in a cookbook I browsed through at Hastings. I modified this recipe to:

    1/4 cup sugar
    1/6 cup cocoa
1.5 tablespoons flour (I didn't have any corn starch)
1 cup 2% milk (I didn't have any regular milk or light cream)
1/4 cup chocolate chips (actually I put in a handful of dark
    chocolate chips)
½ teaspoon vanilla extract (I actually "measured" this by eye
and don't know how much went in...

I mixed the solid ingredients and added half the milk. Whilst whisking briskly, I warmed this mixture on the stove and finally added the rest of the milk. When it started boiling, I poured in the chocolate chips and stirred well, letting the pudding cook for a minute or so. Then, it was let the pudding cool off.

It is a somewhat bitter pudding and not like the commercial (mix) version. I suspect it'll be an acquired taste...

    14 June 2006 (Casey's Cowtown times Two!)

Breakfast: The last of the left over spegethi and a DP and a cup of coffee.

Office Meeting: A cup of very bad coffee and three (over the course of the morning) sugar coated donuts (my boss advertised them as "dognuts")

Lunch: Chicken fried chicken, mashed potatoes with white gravy, corn and a couple of Diet Pepsis at Casey's Cowtown...

Dinner: We went to Casey's Cowtown for dinner; we had decided not to go to Montana Mike's or Arby's. I'm thinking this was a mistake! The food was good but the kitchen service sucked!
    ______
We were seated with no problem. The waitress seemed very young and very new to waiting and didn't seem to know what she was doing. Kathie asked for a wine list and the waitress trundled off to get it. I looked towards where she'd gone and looked at Kathie and said in a wry voice "I guess I'll ask for water when she returns."
______The girl got back and gave Kathie the wine list; Kathie had changed her mind and asked for a "frozen Margarietta". The girl nodded and left. We began waiting...
______After about five (5!) minutes, Kathie flagged down a different waitress and asked about her frozen Margarietta. This woman (yes, a competient woman!) brought the frozen Margarietta back in under two minutes.
______Our waitress returned and asked what I wanted. I asked for ice water with leomn juice and she said she could bring ice water with a couple of chunkds of lemon. It was only a couple of minutes before she brought our water.
______We ordered dinner: Kathie wanted a nice samwhich and I ordered Motorella sticks as an appetizer. Then, I ordered the Filet Mineon{sp} medium with French dressing. She grabbed the menu to look this up.
______I opened the menu and after a few seconds, pointed to the description of what I wanted. She then asked who I wanted my steak; I said "medium". She asked what kind of potatoe I wanted; I said "baked with everything on it". Finally, she asked the kind of salad dressing I wanted; I said "French".
______The cheese sticks came and were find; Kathie had ordered Ranch dressing.
______Then, "our girl" showed up with both main courses. I looked at her and made an exageriated shrugging motion. She looked beyond confused, she looked lost. She couldn't figure out what my problem was!
______I said "the salad is supposed to come first".
______She brought the salad. I said "I asked for baked potatoe with everything on it." She pointed at my potatoe and said "but you've got butter on it!" I replied "I put the butter from the roll on the potatoe. I'd like some butter and sour cream, please."
    ______She brought both.
______The meal was fine. The waitress told us she simply brought out what the kitchen put up. So, I told her a couple of times that I didn't hold it against her; the kitchen had screwed up!"
______We gave the girl a nice tip; she had tried and shouldn't be punished for the kitchen staff fucking up!
______I would have told all this to Mike Casey but althought he was there and escorted some folks to a table, he didn't come around. Mike's restraunt has nice food but they have a continual problem with service.
______Like most places in dear ol' Dodge, the quality of the waitress/waiters simply isn't what it should be! To be blunt, it is often medictre and is unfortunately often piss poor at Mike Casey's Cowtown! There is a reason where seldom go to Mike's for a nice dinner date and the service is exactly that!
______Yes, I said "date". I learned a couple of decades that taking me wife out on dates was even more important after we married than before!

    13 June 2006

Breakfast: left over roast beef and a couple of slices of bread (to soak up the juices; as gravy goes, this was not one of my successes...)

    Lunch: A salad from Dillions...

Dinner: Healthy Choice Beef Pot Roast with Gravy, Carrots, Roasted Potatoes and Apple Raisin Crisp.

    Sunday, June 11, 2006

    11 June 2006

Breakfast: Aunt Jamima pancakes with sausage, coffee.

Lunch: Two very large hotdogs and some fretos, plus a couple of DP.

Dinner: An apple as an apple-tizer (OK, appetizer) and a Healthy Choice Familiar Favorites: Cheesy Chicken with Rice (Chicken with Rice, Cheese Sauce, Broccoli and Carrots)

This is my first time with this meal (my wife picked it out for me) and I liked it! Unfortunately, I was still hungry after eatting so this means two things:
    1. I've gotten my appete back after being so sick last week and
    2. this is a low cal meals because it is rather skimpy...
I suspect that I'll eat my other apple immediately after testing my blood sugar at 9:37 pm and will probably have a snack when I get home...I always do anyway...

I did eat that other apple and a small amount of popped corn and some ice water.

    Saturday, June 10, 2006

    10 June 2006

About 330 am, a cup of hot choclate.

    Breakfast: sleep through it...

Lunch: A hot dog bun with peanut butter and two hard soft-boiled eggs, coffee and a couple of cans DP.
I was up nearly all night whilst walking in the 2006 "Relay Walk For Life. An hour or so after drinking the chocklate, I was back home, showered and in bed. Then, I had to get up for painkillers and Ben Gay.

Dinner: Homemade spegetti sauce over (non)-whole wheat noodles, a beer (MGD), a couple of pieces of garlic toast. I was overboiling some roast beef for useage today and tomorrow.

There apparently must have been too much grease in it because I kept waking up with fat infected stomach juices boiling up; I drank some "pink" and that took care of that!!!

    Friday, June 09, 2006

    9 June 2006

Breakfast: SOS (an oversalted version) and a DP...

Lunch: Healthy Choice (I wish I could remember which, I'm writing this after the fact...)

Dinner: Two slices of hamberger pizza and a homemade tacco.

A DP and a lot of water...

Three great bars gone and a couple of "Long Island Ice Tea" recipies...

_____My wife and I were stationed (in the Navy) on Guam during the 1980s. Like many others, wecruised around the island and checked out various bars. (When you live on an island 35 mileslong and 8 miles at it's widest, you find the good bars and restaurants quickly!) We were quitefond of Achung Bay Marina, Barney's Beach Hut and the Trench Room. All are gone.
    _____
I say all are gone because I think the owner of the "Achung Bay Marina" probably angeredenough of his neighbors that he went out of business. "Barney's Beach Hut" was destroyed by a typhoon (I've asked the "Pacific Daily News" - theGuam Newspaper - for information on this.).
    _____
"The Trench Room" was the Officer's Club on the Naval Air Station, Agana, Guam (NASAgana). This fine club was put out of business when the US Armed Forces were gutted in themid 1990s; the "Trench Room" was shut down when NAS Agana was "dis-established".
    _____
Around 1992, flush with the joy of posting to my first BBS (Bulletin Board System), I wrote thebartenders at both Barney's and the Trench Room for recipes. The bartenders sent me theserecipes. I don't know where they got them from and strongly suspect they evolved in the traditionof read a recipe and change it to suit your customers. While I like these drinks, I haven't madethem (either of them) since 1989 due to the cost (both financial and metabolic!).

"Long Island Ice Teas” (two recipes): These are stealth drinks by the way!

    Achung Bay Marina

    1 oz Vodka
    1 oz Gin
    1 oz Light Rum
    1 oz Tequila
    1 oz Scotch or
    1 oz Cuiacoa /

Pour over ice and top off with Pepsi or Coke

    Trench Room
    Naval Air Station, Agana, Guam

    1/2 oz Gin
    1/2 oz White Rum
    1/2 oz Vodka
    1/2 oz Triple Sec
    1/2 Tequila

    Lemon Twist
    Sweet and Sour Mix
Pour over ice and top off with Pepsi or Coke

In the Achung Bay Marina recipe, you have your choice of either Scotch or Cuicoa!

I forgot to mention! When I wrote those bar tenders, I seem to recall getting their permission to reprint their recipies. (I think...)

    7 June 2006

    Breakfast: chicken alfredo on noodles...

Lunch: Chicken fried chicken, mashed potatoes with brown gravy, corn and a roll, plus two glasses Diet Pepsi (at Casey's, this being Wednesday and a Lion Club Meeting!)

Dinner: A TV dinner purporetedly with BarBQ sauce covered "pork", horrible mashed potatoes and corn...

It is almost enuf to make me consider a small glass of White Zin...

    Mudslide (Barney's Beach Hut)

The difference between a Fairy Tale and a Sea Story is that Fairy Tales begin with "Once Upon A Time" and a Sea Story begins with "This Ain't No Shit". I'm going to start a true Sea Story as if it were a Fairy Tale as I fear that Barney's "ain't no more…

"Once upon a time", on the shores of the East Phillipines Sea, in Agana Guam, was a lovely Beach Bar called Barney's Beach Hut. There, for just under $12, you could any drink of your choice. It didn't matter if it was a coke or a Mudslide or water or Long Island Iced Tea. It was all the same price and came in a plastic toy bucket, complete with little plastic shover. Tis something you'd play in the sand with… However, after drinking something alcoholic (like the Mudslide recipied below) you probably didn't want to get off the Beach Chair. You just wanted to wait for the sundown (and the precious "Green Flash") and try to sober up enuf to drive home!)

The Mudslide recipe is tasty but sneaks up on you. I can't afford the cost [metabolic or cash] of the ingredients and haven't made a batch since 1989. (My Mother in Law tried some, liked it a lot and got shit faced on it! She didn't forgive me for years…)
    in about ten years.

    Mudslide (Barnie's Beach Hut)

    1/2 oz Vodka
    1/2 oz Bailey's Irish Cream
    1/2 oz Kahlua

Add ice and blend until it looks like a slurry. This is a
sneaky kind of drink by the way.

62th Anniversary or 6 June 2006 and better service at Arbys'...)

Breakfast: I tried eating my left over salad from last night but it was too damn limp. So, I fried up the rest of the bacon and two eggs. Had those with a cup of coffee...

Lunch: An Arby's (single) Roast Beef Samwhich and a DP (from home). After lunch, I was still hungry. It also being a hot day and I was having cravings, I remembered having a McDonald's choclate milkshake several weeks ago. I remember thinking how good it was; that was quite a surprise since the last time I'd had one - two or three years ago - it was rather wretched. Well, today's McDonald's Choclate Milk Shake sucked!

It was not only too damn sweet but it left an acid taste...

I wonder what I saw in this shit a couple of weeks ago? I can only surmise that I got an inexperienced employee who actually made me a real milk shake. They probably fired him/her...

    Monday, June 05, 2006

5 June 2006 (Arby's and Piss Poor Service...)

Breakfast: Aunt Jamami pancakes and sausage plus a cup of coffee.

This is exacely what I had yesterday but unlike yesterday, I had no trouble getting it down and in fact, an hour after eatting, I was hungry again! I think I'm over whatever made me sick...

Lunch: At Arby's with French Dip Samwhich, fries, a Diet Pepsi and piss poor service!

......At Arby's I ordered "the Number one, with drink and a large order of moterillo sticks instead of fries. Can you do that?" "Yes, sir." I got the order and took the sacks to Kathie (we were eatting at her office). I had the feeling the kid at Arbys had fucked up my order but I wasn't going to worry about it.
......I was wrong. He'd fucked up Kathie's order.
......She was pissed and insisted that I return to Arbys to get her motzerillo sticks; she wasn't going to wait till I was done with lunch!
......So, taking her car instead of Lumox (my 1984 Suburbon), I went back to Arbys. There was a very large croud of people waiting but I wasn't about to wait in line. I went to the side of the line and stated "I'd like to speak with a manager please!"
......She came over and I explained how I'd ordered the motzerillo sticks but not gotten them. I said I'd like to get them. She asked, "which register did you buy them at?" I pointed to the one closest to me. The kid behind the counter said "it was me". I respect the boy for having the courage to admit that. (He was still working at Arby's on 6 June 2006.)
......Another boy brought over the sticks, plopped them down on the counter in front of me and turned away.
......I said "I'd like some sauce, please."
......He plopped two containers in front of me and started to walk off.
......I said "This is carry out. Could I have a bag?"
......He asked the manager what I was talking about. She said something at amounted to "bag" and pointed him to them. The boy put a bag on the counter in front of me. He made no effort to bag the sticks.
......I did not attempt to get him to come back. (He was not working at Arby's on 6 June 2006.)
.....I was afraid he'd fuck up the sticks!
......So, I looked at the manager, she looked embarrassed and I packaged the sticks myself. She also gave me a $4.31 refund for my having to come back...
......I don't look gift horses in the mouth.

Dinner: An attempt at a Dillions salad but I couldn't get much down; my stomach is still "small" (I wish this would last...). So, I had a piece of a berry pie Kathie brought home with her and a beer (a MGD!).

At least, I got some vitimin Ethanol!

    4 June 2006

Breakfast: An Aunt Jamima pancakes and sausage and a cup of coffee. I had a hard time getting it all down; no appatite.

Lunch: A Healthy Choice Roast Beef, mashed potatoes and gravy, plus a DP.

Shortly after lunch, still feeling ill, I called in sick to work. No big deal.

Dinner: My wife went to the store for her dinner and brought me (at my request) a couple of cans of Campbell's Cream of Chicken soup and oaster crackers. That was fine. Fortunately, I had very little appatite and it wasn't until just before going to bed (aroudn 9 pm) that I got some appitate back and ate some oaster crackers. Then, I had more chills and had to put an extra blanket on (on me that is, my wife obviously wasn't having chills).

3 June 2006 (and barfing, etc...)

Breakfast: peanut butter samwhich (1 slice whole wheat bread) and a cup of coffee.

Snack: At the "Relay For Life" Building, after I turned in our team's forms, several cups of orange juice, a cup of coffee and some casserol consisting of a lot of shredded spuds, sausage, cheddar cheese and a sauce.

    Lunch: Some low cal lassonia.

Dinner; Healthy Choice, Beef Tips Portobello with Gravy, Mashed Potatoes, Vegetables and Apple Cherry Crisp. This was good but I won't repeat buying it. There is the:

    1. Cherry in the Apple Cherry Crisp and
    2. I'd sort of overlooked the fact that "Portobello" is a type of mushroom...
I don't know what I ate but something isn't agreeing with me. I've had progressively worst diaherri since I ate some popcorn after dinner. "Three times a charm" or so they say but from the "rumbling in the belly", I don't think I can expect only three visits to the throne. Also, there is this increasing nausea and the feeling that I'll be "blowing chunks" over the lawn before too long. I hope I don't take any rabbits unaware! We've had some "baby bunnies" around here lately and they are still getting their survival skills honed...

A few minuts after writing this, events escallated to a bit of vomiting...

Then, I spent a couple of hours at home sitting on the couch feeling miserable and occasionally trundling into the bathroom for more vomiting and diahria. Twice, I fertalized the lawn - vomit that is - (outside the fence), showered and went to bed with chills. Not a really good way to end the day...

    Tuna Noodle Casserol

    Tuna Noodled Casserol

    * boil about 2.5 cups of square noodles,
    * three cans of tuna fish (no mammals, please),
    * two cans cream of mushroom soup,
    * cheddar cheese (1/2 cup Tillamook and 1/2 cup of Dillion's...)

After boiling the noodles, mix the above ingredients and put in an oven baking dish. Then, put crumpled potatoe chips on top of the mixure and make until completely warmed through. You want the cheese melted so I go with about 15 to 20 minutes at 350 degrees.

You could try the traditional 325 degrees...

    Michael Garibaldi's "Bagna Cauda"

    Bagna Cauda

    * 1-cup extra virgin olive oil
    * 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
    * 3 cloves garlic, peeled and chopped very fine, or, preferably crushed with a pestle
    * 1, 2-oz can flat anchovy fillets packed in oil, drained, chopped very fine

Prepare the vegetables that you choose to serve by slicing them thinly or in strips.

Melt the butter in a deep earthenware bowl or saucepan over very low heat, making sure butter does not bubble - just long enough to get butter hot.

As soon as the butter is melted add the olive oil and let it heat through.

Add the garlic and sauté for an instant or two, (if crushed will cook faster than chopped) Do not let the garlic color at all. Remove.

Add the anchovies, stirring and mashing them with a wooden spoon.

Simmer for 3 or 4 minutes over very low heat, stirring continuously.

Sauce is ready when smooth in texture.

Keep the sauce warm over a spirit flame or canned heat burner.

Dinner: At the Golden Crown in Beaveron, Oregon, the number 9 and a beer.

This food was quite good but was quite bad for me! Two hours after eatting, I had the highest blood sugar reading I've ever recorded! This was:

For me, this was a shockingly high value. I just knew that it really help fuck up my A1C test in late May (and I rather think that it did!). Alas but it did give me a really strong hint on what I shouldn't eat. Also, I could take comfort in the fact that I go to this restraunt perhaps once a year and almost never go to Chinese elsewhere. Kind of a reassurring thougth, kind of...

Of course, I being a highly intelligent type who takes bad news in stride and knowing that I should do nothing to jack that frigging reading, didn't go out for a walk but had a beer instead...

Ok, I may be fairly intelligent but sometimes I just sigh and do the easy but bad things...

Besides, I felt better after having that beer. (I didn't get around to telling me wife just how bad bad was...)

    11 May 2006

Breakfast: 2 small pancakes (homemade from a mix) and coffee.

Lunch: ham samwhich and Betty crocker "Suddenly Soup" Creamy potatoe soup.

Dinner: Nonna Emilia Ristorante Italiano, (an Italian restaraunt located in the ALOHA area of Washington county in Oregon), where I had a salad, spegetti with meat sauce and meatballs, a kind of choclate cake for desert. Kathie agreed to drive so I for once got to drink a couple of beers whilst out to dinner...

It was a very large serving of spegetti so I took about half the plate home with me; the waitress voluenteered to add more meat sauce to the noodles as I'd eatten most of the sauce. I'd asked her "how much is your smallest container of take home sauce". This was very kind of her.

The leftovers made a very nice breakfast later that week.

    10 May 2006

    Breakfast: shredded wheat

Lunch: Greek gyro, potatoe slices and a Diet Pepsi (this was at a little place in Washington Square, a mall near Beaverton Oregon).

Dinner: chicken, potatoe salad and a diet pepsi (or two)

Afterwards, four glasses of White Zinfadel. I was watching the Dave Chappelles show. I had been disappointed in much of the previous shows but found this one was really, really good! I told my wife that and she asked me "how much wine have you drank"? I realized that I'd drank three glasses of White Zin right before seeing this show.

I guess I was just a tad bit drunk...

    8 May 2006

    Breakfast: bran flakes and coffee.

Lunch: leftover steak, french fries, some bacon and D.P.

Dinner: At the High Street Brfewer and Cafe in Eugene Oregon:

  • Appetizer: tater tots with cheese dip
  • Hamberger (1/3 pound) with Tillamooh cheedar cheese and a fried egg
  • plus great french fries
  • and two glasses of a great microbrew beer!

The hamberger was so good it deserves to be mentioned by it's name ("Wilbur's Jumbo Deluxe Burger") and it's description "Bacon,Tillamook cheddar, & a fried egg" on their menu.

Events have consequences and so did my "little" binging...

  • Then, 2 hours and 30 minutes later, I took my "two hours after eatting blood reading" (the above figure of 201!).

For most folks, that might seem too high. But for me, it is quite high and will probably fuck up my A1C test in late May! (28 May 2006: This little binge probably had it's part in my getting an increase in A1c from 6.8 to 7.0! in late May!) However, it was well worth it!

Second Anniversary of Being Diagnoses as Diabetic...

of my being diagnosed as a Type two diabetic.

Since I was in a rather morbid mood, I thought it would be fine to cerebrate. I thought we could to this Champaign Brunch" at this little Mexican restraunt we went to and have the brunch and Champaign. I even thought to have Champaign to toast "My Second Anniversary".

My wife thought it was a bad idea. At the time (7 May 2006), I thought she'd made a bad choice in talking me out of this. Later (28 May 2006), I suspect she may have been correct. Cerebrating such a morbid day probably isn't such a good chioce. But, since I don't expect to be back in Oregon with family on 7 May 2007, I will have champaign that day...

Even if it wasn't the "Champaign Brunch", it was at least a good post dinner event. Also, I helped dispose of the left over steak...

Lunch: Moe's in Newport, Oregon: Bowl clam chowder, fish and chips and a Diet Pepsi.

Dinnert: Salad and two cups chicken/wild rice soup, spegetti with meatballs at Galucchi's in Lincoln City, Oregon. (The spegetti was a little too sweet and reminded me of canned stuff and was thus, significanly ordinary; the remainder of the meal and Kathie's pizza was was most definitely adequate!)

DInner: Slices of broiled London Broil, a little bit of mashed potatoes, brocolli, a Diet Pepsi and a bottle of Henry Weinhart's Private Reserve (still a very nice beer and I don't understand why restraunts in the Portland area refuse to sell it. Sure, a bunch of fucking Cali-fornacators bought Henry's and are making it in Cali-fornia but it is still a very well made beer. It turely beats Pissweiser -er- Budweister...)

A snack: First a gin-and-tonic and then another Henrys...

I figured I'd blown the blood sugar totally and yet, when I did the fasting test the morning of two-de-May-oh, it was only 109!

That is quite low for me...
