Lunch: at Casey's: a nice soup and grilled cheese sandwich and water
Dinner: boiled chicken, noodles, broccoli and water
People think that what they eat daily will always be remembered as normal, yet this isn't true. Someday, my descendants might be amused or appalled at what I eat...

Higgins replied "I am going to write about it."
This was a serious threat as Higgins was a well respected writer and his writing about what the villain had done would cause said villain a lot of trouble.
If Higgins can write about something that has angered him, so can I!
No, I don't remember any other details about this show as it played about 24 years ago.
In the past couple of weeks, we have experienced first bad service from a waiter (and good kitchen service) and excellent service from a waiter and piss poor service from a kitchen.
Appleby's redeemed themselves to my wife and me last night with excellent service and won their way back into our hearts (and wallets). My report:
http://dying-by-fork.blogspot.com/2010/01/new-years-day-2010.html
First, there was our visit to Appleby's in Dodge City around 10 December 2009:
We were seated at Applebys and apparently we were at a table between waiters/waitresses. We started waiting and no one would wait one us! One waiter kept going past us and kept stopping at the table across us. After a while, my wife tapped this waiter on the arm as he went past us, completely oblivious to our presence. My wife asked "are we at a table without a waiter?"He said "I'm your waiter. Are you ready to order?"
We said "yes" and we ordered. It took a while for a runner (not the waiter) to bring out plates.
The food was good and thus, the kitchen service was good.
I was thinking of ordering a second beer, to wash down the rest of my chicken fajitas (it was my turn to be the "DD" (Designated Drinker) and not the Designated Driver (I almost never drink at a bar or restaurant anymore).
However, I didn't get the chance to order that second bottle of MDG or to convince my wife we should order "shooter" deserts. "Our" waiter walked by, put the bill between Kathie and I and wished us a pleasant evening. This was so unlike Appleby's that we just looked at each other in shock.
We were hoping the Manager would come around but none did. (Another un- Appleby-like action).
We ended up paying but flagging down a passing waitress and she took our bill.
The problem was "our" waiter had an obvious GAF attitude. "GAF" is/was a US Navy slang term from the early 1970s and comes from "I don't Give A Fuck [man]".
First of all, we had a great waiter at the Boot Hill Restaurant! He was a young fellow who did a fine job and earned his tip!We ordered the 14oz Ribeye steak with baked potatoes and water. It took a long time for the meal to come. In fact, our waiter dropped by the table, apologized for the wait and went back to the kitchen to check on our meal.
A couple of minutes later, a runner brought the food out, our waiter gave us the plates and we were ready to go.
Kathie took a small bite out of her potatoe and said "this potatoe is cold".
I touched my potatoe and sure enough, it felt as cold as if it had just came out of the refrigerator. I was pissed off!
We called the waiter over, told him both potatoes were cold (I repeated what I'd said about it feeling like it just came from the refrigerator) and he took the plates back to the kitchen.
Our waiter came back and said "it will take 20 minutes to cook more potatoes.
I said "put them in the microwave oven".
He said they could not and asked if we wanted mashed potatoes and brown gravy. We agreed to this.
No manager came around to apologise for the cold baked potatoes and in fact, we didn't see a manager at all!
I suppose the focus at Boot Hill Casino has been on the gambling and not the food. Well, I'm not much on gambling but do like a nice meal.
Last night was the third time we've eaten at the Boot Hill Casino and the first two time were excellent! We have heard people bitching about bad food at the BH Casino and we thought they had to be wrong.
It now appears the quality has moved downhill since the BHC restaurant opened and that has only been 11 days!
Events Have Consequences
We have not been to Appleby's since "our"waiter was so damned rude and GAF. We thought about going there may be a week ago but decided to have dinner at home. So. in a manner of speaking, that Appleby's waiter has helped us to save money! Thanks GAFman!
My wife knows one of the Boot Hill Casino Managers and sent him a strongly worded email today. Hopefully, this will help.
She made a point of telling this friend that our waiter last night was excellent and that we were quite pleased with the service that we got. I hope this young man doesn't get hurt in any blowback.
Update: 2 January 2010:
We went to Applebys last nigh, had excellent service, typically good food and heard "our" waiter from 3 weeks (or so) ago had actually been a cook sent out front.
My wife emailed an exec (friend of ours) of the Boot Hill Casino about the
Lunch: this was so unmemorable that I didn't remember the next evening...

The last time we went to the Dodge City Applebys, we had very poor service and haven't gone back since (this visit was around 10 December 2009).
Lunch: Christmas lunch of turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, gravy,
rolls and water (we didn't remember to buy a pie...)
Dinner: Healthy Choice Cafe Steamers Grilled Chicken Marinara (Chicken
Tenderloins with Whole Grain Penne Pasta & Broccoli in a Zesty Marinara
Sauce) and water
I did have some brownies someone brought in...

bottle of Diet Pepsi. I also had a choclate cupcake...

Snack: Cheeze-Its and some more coffee
Snack: Cheeze-Its and coffee
Lunch: At Mike Casey's "Delmonico's" (formerly "Peppercorns") a
hamburger with fries and bowl of tomatoe soup and "Diet Pepsi"
What is the difference between Peppercorns and Delmonico's?
First, the menu is the same, however, the food seems to taste better!
The layout of tables is better and there is no smoking at all! This is
a significant improvement. There were a lot of folks who
proclaimed/forecast that restaurant attendance in Dodge City would go
down if the smokers could not puff on their precious f***ing coffin
nails. Well, Delmonico's was crowded and more people were coming in as
we were leaving. I guess the nicotine addicts were surviving a meal with
out a fix.
Dinner: two hot dogs and a can of Campbell's Chicken Noodle soup.
To quote Vir Koto (and don't well all?), "it tasted so good going down
and not so good coming back up". Well, something upset my stomach and
dinner came back up a couple of hours after I went to bed...
Not that this is anything new for me...
Snack: Cheeze-Its and coffee
Lunch: A Burger King "Angus" burger, fries and a medium "Diet Coke"
Dinner: boiled chicken, boiled rice and water (I ended up with a decent
sugar level - 146 - in spite of the rice!
Lunch: 1.5 Rubans and water
Dinner: At Applebys, split the big appetizer plate with Kathie and had a
bowl of "French" onion soup
The dinner was selected to minimize the chances of me losing my dinner a
couple of hours after going to bed; it didn't work. To paraphrase Vir
Koto: "It tasted so good going down, not so good coming back up."
Lunch: a balony sandwich, bowl of cream soup with chicken and potatoes
and a bottle of DP
Dinner: left over beef stew with a bag of Cheeze-It crackers and water
Lunch: some homemade corn bread, several bowls of different chilli (we
had a chlli contest at work...) and some ice creamme and a couple of
glasses of bottled Diet Pepsi
Snack: some ice creamme with a nice and bad-for-me choclate covering
Dinner: Boston Market Meatload with Homestyle Mashed Potatoes & Gravy
and ice water
Lunch: turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, gravy, 2 rolls with grape
jelly and two glasses of White Zin
Desert: slice of pumpkin pie with no-sugar whipped creamme
Dinner: peanut butter and jelly on a single slice of sour dough bread
and water
Lunch: plain yogurt with strawberries
Dinner: at Casey's Cowtown: cheese sticks, fried chicken (dry and I

"Diet Pepsi"
Dinner: minute steak and rice and iced water

and iced water
Snack: some little Orego cookies...
Lunch: Two brats and a bottle of Diet Coke (both were mistakes...)
Snack: four Little Debbie powder sugar donuts and a cup of coffee
(later, I couldn't tell which made me feel more jittery and which upset
my stomach more: the sugar or the caffein. Regardless, I won't be having
that again soon...
Dinner: stewed pork chops, sour krat, rice and broccoli and I wish I had
some Pepto Bismol for desert!
Lunch: plain yogurt with strawberries and then a bowl of homemade (and
great!) ham and potatoe soup at a place called "The Safe" at 740 North
2nd in Dodge City. After that and thinking if I could have 2nd lunch at
a local small shop, I could get a big mocha latte at another local spot:
House of Jones (coffee shop)
I congraduated the cooks at "The Safe" and asked their schedule; I plan
on taking my wife there for lunch on Tuesday, 1 December as I think
she'll like the soups...
Dinner: steak, baked potatoe, broccoli and later, a single shot
gin-and-tonic (which I kept down amazingly enough given the fat in the
steak and the volume of the gin-n-tonic!)
Brunch: another egg salad sandwich and still more coffee
Lunch: after donating blood, a sloppy joe, a can of no sugar added
"orange juice" and water
Dinner: a Subway sandwich (roast beef) and a bottle of MGD
Lunch: a balony sandwich, bowl of cream soup with chicken and potatoes
and a bottle of DP

dough sandwich and a biggish bottle of Diet Pepsi
Dinner: Healthy Choice4 Cafe Steamers Grilled Basil Chicken (chicken
tenerloins with linguini & vegetables in fire-roasted tomato basil
sauce) and iced water
(http://www.tastebook.com/recipes/838649-HOMEMADE-CORN-BREAD)
1 cup flour
1 cup corn meal
3 tsp baking powder
½ tsp soda
1 egg
1 cup buttermilk
pinch of salt
2 Tbsp oil
Option: Some use 1 cup sweet milk and 1¾ tsp cream of tartar
Bake at 425 degrees for 20-25 minutes
Lunch: plain yogurt with strawberries and later, a half peanut butter
and grape jelly sandwich with a bottle of Diet Pepsi
Dinner: Healthy Choice Cafe Steamers Cajun Style Chicken & Shrimp and
then a bag of popcorn and water
Breakfast #2: (from the "enhanced Contiental Breakfast") at the motel we
stayed in a McPerson: a hard boiled egg, sliced, and between two halves
of a slice of bread
Lunch: at Perkins in Great Bend: roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy
and corn. I had "Diet Coke" to drink.
Dinner: two hot dogs, a can of chicken noodle soup and potatoe chips
with cottage cheese

Lunch: two peanut butter and grape jelly sandwiches on sour dough bread,
some cheese crackers and iced water
Lunch: steak salad and a side of cottage cheese at Casey's Cowtown...
Dinner: at the Spearville restaruent with the Spearville Lions: chips
and sausa; small bowl of fine homemade potatoe soup; chicken fried steak
with mashed potatoes and white pepper gravy and water.
"It tasted fine going down, not so good coming back up" [to paraphrase
Vir Coto]
It was a little too much and a little too greasy a little to close to my
bedtime...
Lunch:
Dinner: fried snack foods at the Montezuma Library as we were
visiting the Montezuma Lions Club. Not too bad and didn't screw up my
blood sugar although my stomach let me know I'd had greasy food...
Lunch: a bag of popcorn (I didn't feel like eating the TV dinner I
brought in) and ice water
Lunch 2: corned beef cooked in a small lidded saucepan with an egg on
top of the corned beef. (I was still burping this up about 6 hours later...)
Dinner: a TV dinner featuring slightly greasy fried chicken, overly
processed mashed potatoes and margarine I added, corn and a brownie; I
drank ice water. (This wasn't too bad for a I'm-too-lazy-to-cook-tonight
meal. Kathie had to work late and I had to "fend for myself"...)
Lunch: a bag of popcorn (I didn't feel like eating the TV dinner I
brought in) and ice water
Snack: a little bag of 6 Oreos and coffee
Lunch: large hamberger and potatoe chips with cottage cheese
Dinner: "Breakfast for Dinner": scrambled eggs, well done bacon, Serri
Lee coffee cake and water
Lunch: the left over half a roast beef sub sandwich from several days
ago and a small amount of coffee...
Lunch: the stew left over from the other night, water and a cup of coffee
Dinner: tuna noodled casserol (tuna, noodles, canned creamme of mushroom
soup, potatoe chips) and water
My 2-hour-past-eating blood score was 128! This was a bit hard to
believe given how much noodles I'd eaten and the 240 I got last night
from eating mostly veggies. This blood sugar stuff makes no sense. As an
aside on the meal: "It tasted so good going down; not so good coming
back," to quote Vir Coto (and don't we all?) Maybe it was the 2 1/2
glasses of water I drank right before going to bed?
I asked them for a "double bacon egg CROISSAN'WICH® meal". Thegirlyoung woman who took the order asked the man who made it: "double bacon, yes"? He replied "double bacon!"When I got home, my wife discovered it was the usual bacon and sausage; the problem with this is my wife does not like their sausage. She was pissed off and what could I say beside "they told me it was 'double bacon'!"
This has been a persistent problem for several years.
Burger King is now off our "go to breakfast" list...
They are still on our lunch list.
My 2-hour-after-eatting blood sugar count was 240! sigh... I've have thought the amount of meat I ate should have lead to a much lower score (i.e. 140!)
Lunch: two cheddar cheese, "egg" crosaunts and coffee
Lunch: the rest of the corned beef in a sour dough sandwich and water
Desert: some mini-Oreos and water
Snack: three chocolate chip cookies at the Santa Fe Trail Association
meeting in Cimarron
Dinner: Chicken/Steak fahetias as Appleby's with their fancy ice creamme
desert
I didn't plan on ordering this desert since I am obsessed about my A1C
test in late November. But, the waitress said Appleby's is canceling
this desert and it is (was?) my wife's favorite. So, when she ordered
it, I didn't argue. The moral of the story is simple: Sometimes, a
husband must make the wrong choice for the right reasons rather than the
right choice for the right reasons. The reason is simple: by going
along with her choice, I got a fine desert and my wife was happy. If I
had taken a stand against the desert, I would have pissed my wife off
for years to come (and not helped lower my A1C at all!).
So, to reiterate:
Sometimes, a husband must make the wrong choice for the right reasons
rather than the right choice for the right reasons.
Lunch: the rest of the corned beef in a sour dough sandwich and water
Desert: some mini-Oreos and water
Lunch: a corned beef sandwich and water
Real Lunch: at the Garden City Airport Resteraunt, spgettie with a very
nice meat sauce and meatballs plus great rolls (and real butter!) and
two glasses of "Diet Pepsi". The lunch prices were nice (about $6.90 per
meal as I recall), the food excellent and it was worth driving from
Dodge City to Garden City in order to get a great lunch! (We also went
to Garden to shop a Sam's but that is a different story...)
Dinner: 3 eggs scrambled, grape jelly between two slices of sour dough toast, with water. For desert, cottage cheese with grape jelly.
Snack: A bananna and 2 apples
Lunch: Burger King double hamberger, fries and medium Diet Coke
Lunch: Plain yogurt with strawberries and later, a chicken breast and water
Dinner: an Arby's roast beef sandwich, some cheese sticks and water
Post Dinner: a gin-n-tonic
Lunch: steak salad and water
Dinner: At Montana Mike's, a steak, baked potato, salad and two bottles of Coors
Pre-Bed Snack:
Lunch: yogurt with strawberries and most of 4 chicken legs later (my dog
enjoyed what I didn't eat...)
Dinner: Boson Market Meatload with homestyle mashed potatoes and gravy
and water
Lunch: Two hambergers and water
Dinner: Healthy Choice Cafe Steamers Cajun Style Chicken & Shrimp
(Chicken Tenderloin & Scrimp with Rice and Vegetables in Spicy
Cajun-Style Sauce) and water
Snack: 1.5 oz bag of Cheez-Its
Snack: a donut and coffee and then a bananna
Lunch: the last of the beef stew, a peanut butter sandwich and coffee
Dinner: Healthy Choice Cafe Steamers Chicken Margherita (Chicken
Tenerloins with Angel Hair Pasta & Roasted Garlic in Balsamic
Vinaigrette Sauce) and water
Lunch: half the left over beef stew and coffee
Snack: a small piece of Anniversary Cake
Dinner: "breakfast for dinner": scrambled eggs, Serri Lee coffee cake,
well cooked bacon (you could almost hear it crunch when my dog ate "his"
share of my bacon...) and water
Snack: a single shot of gin-n-tonic to wash down a slice of left over
Anniversary Cake
A puzzler: why was my 2 hour post dinner blood sugar so good (133)
given I had Serra Lee with dinner and that little piece of cake?
Lunch: half the left over beef stew and water
Dinner:
Pre-Bed Snack:
Lunch: At DCasey's Cowtown: roast beef, corn, a roll and water
Dinner: From the Dodge City Applebee's curbside service, a hamberger and fries and ice water
When Kathie got home from Applebee's, we fou8nd they had left out the french fries from my order and the chips from her order. So, she had to return and pick these up. That meant I had to microwave my hamberger...the meal was fine but having to go back to their curbside service and retrieve half the meal was a pisser...
Lunch: at Casey's Cowtown: steak and salad and water
Dinner: homemade beef stew, "baked fr4om a can" French bread and water
Pre-Bed Snack: a gin-n-tonic
I made the mistake of eating a greasy meal too late and had a gin-n-tonic as well. I ended up barfing and that wasn't any fun...
My beef stew recipe:
It was quite nice, with the bread.
Lunch: plain yogurt with strawberries
Dinner: 1½ corned beef sandwhichs and water
At the movie: popcorn and Diet Pepsi
Pre-Bed Snack:gin n toinic
Lunch: 1.5 Rubins, potatoe chips and cottage cheese and water
Dinner: a slice of all meat pizza, a large corn beef samwhich and water
Lunch: hamberger, home fries and "Diet Pepsi" at Casey's new place...
Dinner: Marie Callender's Fettuccini with Chicken & Broccoli (Chicken
Breast in Creamy Alfredo Sauce) and water
Lunch: plain yogurt with strawberries and later, a corned beef samwhich
and a bottle of DP.
Dinner: Healthy Choice Cafe Steamers Chicken Red pepper Alfredo (chicken
tenderloins with Linguini & broccoli in roasted red pepper alfredo
sauce) and water
Desert: 6 little Oreo cookies
Lunch: yogurt with strawberries and later, a bierrock and bottle of DP
Dinner: Boston Market Meatloaf, with mashed potatoes and brown gravy
and iced water

(Chicken Tenderloin & Scrimp with Rice and Vegetables in Spicy
Cajun-Style Sauce) and iced water

Dinner: Hamberger (large) and potatoe chips with cottage cheese and a
Fosters' (not the oil can size)
Lunch: a piece of left over pizza (only about a week old...)
Snacks: Dillions had freeby/sample stands and I ate too many sweet;
that meant my body was dumping sugar all afternoon (micturate ergo sum)
Dinner: steak, baked potatoe and aspargus
Snack: gin-n-tonic (Bombay gin, so expensive I won't be drinking it
very often...)
Lunch: a piece of left over pizza (only about a week old...)
Snacks: Dillions had freeby/sample stands and I ate too many sweet;
that meant my body was dumping sugar all afternoon (micturate ergo sum)
Dinner: steak, baked potatoe and aspargus
Snack: gin-n-tonic (Bombay gin, so expensive I won't be drinking it
very often...)
Lunch: plain yogurt with strawberries and later, two chicken legs from Dillions
Dinner: the Lions had a dinner at Lions' Park and we had
Pre-Bed Snack: a gin-n-tonic
Snack: about half a corned beef sandwich
Lunch: yogurt with strawberries
Post Lunch snack: a deep fat fried chicken breast and chicken leg from
Dillions. The leg was better than the breast and I should have gone
with maybe 3 legs...
I had a bottle of Diet Pepsi with this.
Dinner: A Burger King double hamburger, fries and water.
Post Dinner Snack: a single shot gin-n-tonic. About an hour after going
to bed, a mouthfull of Malox {sic} for the GERP. From what my wife said
this morning, she would have benefited from a "man sized dose" of Pepto
Bismol (said "man sized dose" is about twice the recommended dose.
After all, "the best dose is an overdose"...)
Snack: most of a corned beef on sour dough bread sandwich and coffee
Lunch: a couple of brats, soaked in and then boiled in, really cheap
cooking beer (if Dillions analyzes my buying habits, they'll think I
only drink beer about once a year and cheap bad beer that that!) with
peppers.
Snack: at the "Sam's Club" in Garden City, Kansas, where we grazed on
the freebie's...
Dinner: About a half of three quarters of a medium "Sam's Club" all meat
pizza and a bottle of MDG. Big mistake, eating "Italian" and drinking a
beer to close to me bedtime; I kept waking up with GERP most of the
night...
Snack: most of a corned beef on sour dough bread sandwich and coffee
Lunch: the rest of yesterday's stew, coffee and a "Grandmas Homestyle
Fudge Choclate Chip" cookie and coffee (I would be better off if I
didn't get the munchies...)
Dinner: steak, baked potatoe with cottage cheese, broccoli and water
Snack: a gin-n-tonic
Big problems ensued in that I ate dinner too late and the gin upset my
stomach. (I'm writing this the next day.) I had trouble getting to sleep...
Lunch: the rest of yesterday's stew, coffee and a "Grandmas Homestyle
Fudge Choclate Chip" cookie and coffee (I would be better off if I
didn't get the munchies...)
Lunch: stewed pork chops, chicken, potatoes, corn and sour krat, with
water and coffee
Snack: a Diet Root Beer float at A&W
Dinner: a three piece (2 breast, 1 wing) roasted chicken meal at KFC
with mashed potatoes and brown gravy and corn on the cob
Lunch: plain yogurt with strawberries and water
Snack: They had a luncheon at work so they had left over cooked
hamburgers. I ate a patty with mustard on it. (The gas I got made me
regret this...)
Dinner: Boiled chunks of pork chop, boiled potatoes and some boiled
sour kraut (I'll take this home with me, drain the juices and add the
rest of the bottle of "Frank's Sour Kraft" and that should taste good!)
Snack: some sausa on chips...

Lunch: yogurt with strawberries and at home, four Little Debbie powder
donuts and a cup of coffee
Dinner: chicken noodle soup and a bierrock and ice water
Lunch: two hot dogs, Italian Wedding Soup (we wondered why it was on
sale at Dillions until we ate it...), potatoe chips and cottage cheese
and water.
Dinner: a piece of boiled steak and the rest of last night's beef stew...
Lunch: at Mike Casey's new place, a large (1/2 pound) hamberger, fries
and two medium "Diet Pepsis".
Snack: some left over taco flavoured hamberger and part of a bottle of
Diet Pepsi...
Dinner: stewed beef and potatoes plus some Cheeze-Its and water
Snack: a peanut butter samwhich and coffee
Lunch: plain yogurt with strawberries
Post-Lunch Snack: Wendy's medium fries and one of their strange new
choclate "milk shakes" (a treat I should not repeat regardless of how
hungry I am for sweets on a hot and humid day!)
Dinner: Went to King's Table for a variety of "Chinese/American" foods
and two glasses of "Diet Pepsi". Kathie said "I've had my 'Chinese fix'
for a while". So have I...
Snack: a "full" gin-n-tonic (i.e. two shots of gin), that I was able to
keep down...
Lunch: the rest of the peanut butter sandwich and water
Dinner:
Pre-Bed Snack:
Lunch: at Casey's Cowtown: a large hamberger, fries and water
Dinner: From the "Rat": two pieces of chicken (breast and wing) extra
crispy (and extra greasy!), sides of mashed potatoes and brown gravy and
a chunk of corn on the cob, a bisquit with honey and some water
Next time, I will definitely get the "broiled" chicken as the
extra-greasy/crispy (not crispy!) threatened to have the dinner come
back up before I went to bed...I discussed this with Kathie the next day and she was upset about her "origional recipie" chicken being too crispy. So, it seems the KFC "crew" got the chicken switched...
Lunch: plain yogurt with strawberries
Snack: the left over chicken from last night combined with a single slice of sour dough bread and mayo for a little sandwhich
Dinner: boiled steak and potatoe
Pre-Bed Snack: a cookie or two
Lunch: strawberry in yogurt
Dinner: various items at King's Buffet
Pre-Bed Snack: tums as I had a really bad case of gerp...
Lunch: baked chicken, rice pilot and broccoli and ice water
Dinner: a can of beef stew and ice water and some choclate pudding
Lunch: a large hamberger, a small amount of potatoe salad and a couple
of small pieces of fudge (Kathie was getting rid of the fudge we'd had
since around July 8th...)
Dinner: Lean Cuisine orange chicken (in a sweet & spicy asian-style
sauce with rice, roasted almonds and edamome) [{and peas which they
didn't mention!}, popcorn and ice water
I think I should have skipped the popcorn; it upset my stomach and I'm
hoping I can make it this evening while keeping everything down...
Lunch: at Pizza Hut, a salad with cottage cheese and choc pudding and
several types of pizza, plus a couple of glasses of "Diet Pepsi"; it
took a while for them to come out with some kind of "pasta" (something
like mac and cheese that allegedly had chicken mixed in with it...)
Dinner: Two Dillions bierrots (hamberger, shreded cooked cabbage cooked
into a roll), a low of boiled broccoli and iced water
Lunch: a foot long Subway Sanwhich meat ball sub and a bottle of Diet Coke
Snack: a little bit of left over choclate ice creamme; some of which
ended up on my new shirt...
Dinner: a big bowl of store bought beef stew and a bag of Cheeze-Its,
washed down with iced water
Lunch: BarBQue, mashed potatoes and corn, a roll with butter and iced
water at Casey's Cowtown
Dinner: Healthy Choice Steamers Cajun Style Chicken & Shrimp (Chicken
Tenderloin & Scrimp with Rice and Vegetables in Spicy Cajun-Style
Sauce), a couple of little Oreo cookies and iced water
Lunch: left over beef stew, home made "French" bread and a bottle of DP
Dinner: steak, baked potatoe, asspargus and most of a can of Fosters
Pre-Bed Snack: several cheese popcorn kernals and the rest of the can of Fosters...
Lunch: Burger King steak samwhich, fries and "Diet Coke"
Dinner: At Appleby's chicken and steak fahietas, rice and split a fancy desert and water
Pre-Bed Snack:
Lunch: turkey samwhich and water
Dinner: homemade beef stew, home made bread and water
Pre-Bed Snack: gin-n-tonic
Lunch: Some fried chicken, potatoe salad, two homemade rolls and ice tea
Dinner: A fancy ass McDonald's hamberger (Angus with bacon, a ⅓ pounder) and a choclate milk shake (it was the best MacD's hamberger I've had in decades)
Pre-Bed Snack: a double gin-n-tonic
Lunch: at Casey's Cowtown: a large hamberger, fries and water
Snack: a bit more choc ice creamme (my dog did such a great job of
cleaning the coffee cup that it didn't look like it needed washing!)
Dinner: Four hot dogs cooked with white hominey (The result of this
easy to make meal was indigestion and the fear I'll blow chunks later
tonight; in spite of the stomach pill I took...)
I am saved from buying any bad for me snacks at work simply because
there aren't any in the candy machine.
Lunch: Something new at Casey's: pork chop, mashed potatoes and brown
gravy and a roll with butter. The pork chops were what was new.
Snack: I really had the sweet tooth and bought some choclate ice
creamme and ate some of it. When I got to work, I has another damned
case of the sweet tooth and ate four little Oreo cookies...
Dinner: Boston Markey Meatload with homestyle mashed potatoes & gravy
and iced water and the last two damned cookies...
Lunch: Taco Bell 1/2 lb beef and potatoe burieto and two hard shelled
tacos and a medium "Diet Coke"
Dinner: Some tomatoe juice and a Healthy Choice Beef Pot Roast (Roasted
Beef with Onion Gravy, Seasoned Red Potatoes, Carrots & Apple Cranberry
Crisp) and water
Lunch: At Boot Hill Museum, a roast beef sandwich on wheat bread, chips
and water
Dinner: a couple of little coffee cups worth of Tomatoe juice and a
Healthy Choice Cafe Steamers Cajun Style Chicken & Scrimp (Chicken
Tenderloin & Scrimp with Rice and Vegetables in Spicy Cajun-Style Sauce)
and ice water (Despite how my stomach has been feeling lately, this
combination seems to have settled me down rather than upset me.)
Lunch: We went to the "new" restraunt at the Garden City Airport for their Italian food. I had
Dinner:
Pre-Bed Snack:
Lunch: the left over Subway samwhich (which was a six inch Subway Sub of boneless skinned chicken on whole wheat bread with Mayo)
Dinner: At Montana Mike's for a salad with 1000 Island dressing, steak with baked potatoe (sour creamme and butter) and a roll with butter and water
Pre-Bed Snack: hell no! not after the last two nights...
Lunch: At King's, a bunch of chicken and rice and vanilla ice creamme with chocolate pudding and two glasses of "Diet Pepsi"
Dinner: about ½ of a six inch Subway chicken samwiche with mayoI've barfed twice since eating this small amount of that dinner and I'll need to go buy some Pepito...
Lunch:
Snack: a cup of coffee followed by sharp chest pain...
Dinner: about ½ of a 6" subway sub (chicken breast on whole wheat) and water
I was feeling nausiated when I was looking at the selections...
I tried taking Tums but it didn't help. I ended up barfing twice and after Kathie got home (and after I finished watching Eureka, we went to Dillions and I bought a bottle of Mylanta. Now, Mylanta's label says Ask a doctor or pharmacist before use if you are taking any drug for...diabetes
Well, I'm diabetic so I was supposed to ask the pharmacist (but the Dillions pharmacy was closed for the night) and I wanted to get a good night's sleep. The stomach pain had dropped off but minor pain becomes major when I try to sleep. So, I decided to accept the short term risk for the short term gain of being pain free and being able to sleep at night!
Pre-Bed Snack: Water and then some more water...
Lunch: two largish egg salad sanwhiches and a can of DP
Dinner: roast beef, baked potatoe chunks with onion, creamed corn, that cabbage stuff, two biscuits with honey and apple crisp for desert.
I had a gin-n-tonic before going to bed.Around midnight, I felt a very sharp pain just below my sternum. I rolled around in bed, hoping the pain would go away and went back to sleep for about an hour. Then, I went to the bathroom and took a couple of tums. It didn't do any good. I sat on the toilet and waited for the pain to go away. Kathie was worried and asked me when I was going back to bed. So, I went back to bed.
I repeated this cycle of get up, drink some water in the hall bathroom, fart, sit on the toilet and read an excellent book "Viet Nam Above The Treetops: A Forward Air Contrtoller Reports" by John F. Flanagan) for a while and then go back to bed. The last two times, I was feeling like I was about to barf. I finally put my finger down my throat and after I got done barfing, I drank some water, went back to bed and fell asleep immediately. The pain was gone.
This apparently was a really bad case of GERD but it damn near sent me to the Emergency Room!
(1,2,6)
Snack: little cookies...once again, too much sugar...
Gazpacho
Spain's noble contribution to the world of soup.
2 large cucumbers, peeled, seeded & chopped
1 large green pepper, seeded & chopped
4 cups cold tomato juice
1 tsp crushed red pepper
5-6 med tomatoes, peeled, seeded & chopped
5 cloves garlic, crushed
1/4 cup lemon juice
1 large red onion, chopped
1 Tbsp olive oil
Freshly ground black pepper to taste
Garnishes -- sliced stuffed green olives,
chopped red onion,
peeled & chopped cucumber,
homemade croutons.
Stir all ingredients together thoroughly. Chill thoroughly. Stir again just before serving. Serve in frosted bowls with small bowls of the garnishes alongside so each person can add their own.
NOTE: This is not an original recipe; I lost track of where I got it.
Lunch: a pork chop samwhich, bag of Cheeze-Its and can of DP...
Snack: a Wendy's milk shake (it is hot outside and I had a bad case of
sugar craving; I felt ill. After drinking/eating this shake, I felt ill
in a different manner...)
Dinner: a Wendy's double hamburger with bacon, baked potatoe with sour
creamme and butter, lemonade
Lunch: a pork chop samwhich, bag of Cheeze-Its and can of DP...
Snack: more coffee...more coffee...more coffee
Lunch: left over roast, potatoes and carrots plus gravy and a glass of
iced water
Snack: a little bowl of choclate pudding and four "Little Debbie" sugar
coated donuts (I spent a lot of time voiding sugar - I think! - and
drank very few liquids. I'd hate to see what my blood sugar lever was!)
Dinner: large hamberger, some potatoe salad and water (then, I kept
burping up stuff till past 2 am...)
Snack: more coffee...more coffee...more coffee
Lunch: left over roast, potatoes and carrots plus gravy and a glass of
iced water

Snack: Some peppered sausage slices, some cheddar cheese (sliced) on
Ritz Crackers with stolen yellow mustard ("borrowed" from a bottle a
co-worker had labeled with his initials and put in the the office refer
- sorry 'bout that TW!)
Lunch: bacon samwhich made from the bacon left over from my wife's
breakfast yesterday and water...
NOTE: this is not your average foodies' self-absorbed food blog; it is
the foodie blow of a type 2 diabetic who is gradually losing the war
with sugar. Years ago, before I was diagnosed, I used to sneer at my
youngest brother (a type 1) for his problems with blood sugar. I said
"I would never have problems with controlling my blood sugar". Well,
God or genetics or simply my mindset has conspired to show me the error
of my ways! Anyway, my family MD has started talking about putting me
on an injectable drug ("Lizard Spit") and I am insisting on pills!
Pills don't hurt when they go down, I'm not punching a hole in my skin,
which means forgoing the opportunity for an infection (yeah!) and did I
mention? pills don't hurt going down buy I know how stabbing myself does
(a little) and I've seen how it hurts to inject a fluid into one's self...)
Lunch: boiled chicken with boiled rice and coffee
Snack: four "Little Debbies" sugar coated donuts
Dinner: steak, baked potatoe and aspargus and a bottle of MDG
Snack: one Reese's Cup
Lunch: little bowl of plain yogurt with strawberries and water then a
piece of boneless, skinned chicken boiled in White Zin and served on a
slice of sour dough bread
Snack: another cup of coffee...
Dinner: boiled chicken and a small amount of spaghetti noodles and water...
Lunch: A peanut butter samwhich on sour dough bread and water
Dinner: boiled skinless, boneless chicken with speghetti noodles in a
broth made from both an onion and a chicken soup mix
Lunch: Appleby's for chicken and steak fahietas and rice plus two
glasses of "Diet Coke" and a "shot glass" desert (choclate moose)
Dinner: steak, baked potatoe and broccoli, with a bottle of Michelob Lager
A couple of hours after going to bed (several hours after eatting dinner), I was
barfing to reduce the stomach contents and thus, be able to get back to sleep. I should have insisted on a new prescription for Nexium...
Lunch: the half Subway meatball sub left over from yesterday and some potatoe wedges from Wally World (and water)
Dinner: steak, baked potatoe, boiled broccoli and water
Snack (after mowing the lawn): the last of the ice creamme
Lunch: a half of a Subway meatball sandwich, chips and a Diet Coke
Snack: another four Little Debbie sugar donuts...
Dinner: boiled pork chops, boiled potatoes and boiled sour krat and iced
water
I was quite pleased with the results!Snack: I had a gin-n-tonic after I got home and then Kathie offered me another one. I asked for half the first and she said "I'll just make it a single shot." Humm, that is what I thought the first was; fortunately, there were no side effects, stomach wise...
Snack: coffee and four more "Little Debbie" sugar coated donuts (maybe
I'll get lucky tomorrow and not sucumb?)
Lunch: low fat yogurt with strawberries, then (at home), a peanut
butter sandwich and later, some ice creamme (given the severe stomach
pain I started feeling, it looks like yogurt and ice cramme exceeded my
"latose intolerance" limits...)
Dinner: Boston Market Meatloaf (with homestyle mashed potatoes &
gravy), six little Oreo cookies and iced water
Lunch: At Casey's Cowtown: French dip sandwich, French fries and water
Snack: some vanilla ice creamme with chocolate mixed in
Dinner: the left over rice pilof and beef, some little cookies and water
(I was too hungry and therefore, ate too much. I just hope I can keep
it down...)
Lunch: Burger King double hamberger, fries and medium "Diet Coke"
Snack: bad coffee and four "Little Debbie" powder sugar donuts (I'm
getting real tired of them and hopefully, I'll stop buying/eating them!)
Dinner: Healthy Choice Tomato Basil Penne (9 grain penne topped with
tomatoes, onions, sweet basil and mozzarella cheese), some popcorn and
iced water (I don't especially like this meal.)
Snack: coffee and four Little Debbies sugar coated donuts
Lunch: a small amount of low fat yogurt with strawberries and some Splenda
Desert: a small Burger King chocolate milk shake (McDonald's was out of
chocolate; like I'm going back there in the near future???)
Dinner: corned beef hash, water and indigestion (This will teach me not
to grab a can of food at Dillions' simply because I had to leave my
evening meal in the car while I did some running around in 95 degree
heat this afternoon)
Lunch: hamberger, bowl of chicken noodle soup and ice water
My stomach was upset again about an hour after lunch. Maybe the grease in the hamberger got me or the corned beef sandwhich. I don't know but I do know I'm not looking forward to eatting dinner tonight...
Dinner:
Pre-Bed Snack:
Lunch: At King's Buffet, lots of different meat, some rice and for desert, a little vinilla ice creamme, choclate ice creamme and choclate pudding on it.
Dinner: Baked chicken, rice pilof, aspargus and water
Pre-Bed Snack: a gin-n-tonic
This was a serious mistake! I had barely drank a couple of mouthfulls when I was sick to my stomack. It took a couple of hours, but I eventually barfed in the back yard. Perhaps not being on that Nexium has upset my stomach so that the fat in the rice pilof was more than I could handle?
Snack: a can of DP and four "Little Debbies" powder sugar donuts (I was quite hungry after spending 2 hours and 5 minutes mowing the yard and trimming same)
Lunch: low fat plain yogurt, mixed with strawberries and water.
Lunch 2: (I was still hungry) A Hormel Compleates™ Meatloaf with potatoes & gravy and a can of DP (I drink too damn many of these...)
It has been years since I ate one of these and I had forgotten that I'm not very fond of the taste of the gravy. My dog, however, didn't seem to care about that when he "cleaned up" the bowl...
Dinner:
Pre-Bed Snack:
Lunch: a corned beef sandwich on sour dough bread, a banana and iced water
Dinner: a 6" Subway Sub meatball sandwich and a bottle of water
I didn't have enough money to buy a foot long sub; my goal was to buy a nice dinner for5 Kathie and buy meself something with the left over money. After all, if I was still hungry, I would be going home and could get myself something but Kathie had to work j(she plays "The Temperance Lady" in the Boot Hill Museum "Long Branch Variety Show" and would not be able to get any more foot until then.As it turned out, I wasn't hungry after dinner and I hope this is a sign the new diabetes medication (Januvia) is suppressing my appetite.
Snack: "no can do"...I sold all my quarters to a co-worker...
Lunch: Healthy Choice Cafe Steamers Cajun Style Chicken & Shrimp
(Chicken Tenderloin & Shrimp with Rice and Vegetables in Spicy
Cajun-Style Sauce) and ice water
Snack: some crapy popcorn, a couple of pieces of dark choclate and a can of DP
Dinner: Three of four pieces of Meat Lovers pizza. Tonight would have been a great night to take the Nexium but I was clumsy and dropped all six I had left! I just hope Tums will suffice; I'll have to buy some Priosex tomorrow...
Lunch: an apple
Lunch 2: still hungery, I had a Wendy's single hamberger, baked pototoe
with sour creamme and butter and a small frostie (clearly, humidity and
hunger was giving me the munchies)
Dinner: salad and water
Snack: four Little Debbie sugar coated donuts
Snack: A bag of Cheeze-It cheese snacks, a cup of coffee and ice water
Lunch: Cafe Steamers Cajun Scrimp and water
Lunch 2: a McDonald's 10 piece chicken thingies, fries and Diet Coke
Snack: a bag of four Little Debbies sugar coated donuts (no wonder I can't lose weight given the munchies I seem to get all to often...)
Dinner: a little big of meatloaf, rice and broccoli florets
Pre-Bed Snack:
Lunch: tomatoe soup with cracker and a can of DP
Dinner: hamberger, baked potatoe, a little bit of broccoli florets and water
Pre-Bed Snack: I ate four Little Debbie sugar coated donuts even though I was sdreaming at myself Don't eat this! I should have listened to myself; I'm feeling ill...
Lunch: left over corned beef on left over sour dough bread and a can of DP
Snack: a kind of homemade bread
Dinner: the last of the bag of boneless, skinned chicken, boiled rice and broccoli
Lunch:
Dinner:
Pre-Bed Snack:
Lunch: From McDonald's:
Dinner: At the "Relay For Life" Walk:
Pre-Bed Snack:At Midnight at the Relay Walk: 3 slim slices of pizza and some bottled water...
Lunch: At Casey's Cowtown: hamberger "steak" with brown gravy, mashed
potatoes and brown gravy, cottage cheese and water

Lunch: left over spegethie and cold water
Dinner: At the "new" Dodge House we:
The waitress was very attentative (but then she is both a friend and a co-worker of my wife) and in fact, was much more than I am used to in Dodge City, Kansas (not where I come from, just where we live now). We gave her a very nice tip; a very nice tip she earned! It looks like Casey's Cowtown has now got some serious competition for Best Steak House In Dodge City Kansas!
Pre-Bed Snack: ice water
Lunch: Healthy Choice Cafe Steamers Chicken Margherita (Chicken
Tenerloins with Angel Hair Pasta & Roasted Garlic in Balsamic
Vinaigrette Sauce), 2 apples and water
Dinner: homemade spegethie sauce (hamberger, tomatoe sauce and way too much "Italian Sauce") and a bottle of MDG
I put way too much "Italian Seasoning" in and ended up feeling nausiated and had the trots. Then, I made my real mistake: I gave in to my dog's begging and gave him some of the meat with sauce. He ended up with the trots himself and my wife had to take him outside after she had gone to bed. Then, about 2:10 am (only 2 hours and 5 minutes before my wake up time of 4:14 am), it was my turn to take the poor dog outside. (I am writing this part on the morning of the 6th.) When I got home on the 5th, I found two deposits of diahreia on the bedroom carpet; I cleaned up it. Later the evening of the 5th, I found said poor dog had vomited twice on the living room rug. Damn but I'd say my kindness, in giving into my dog's begging, has been repaid in full!No good deed ever goes unpunished...
Lunch: At Casey's Cowtown, a roast beef, sauteed onion salad with ice water.
I like these salads but they do not like me! I had a couple of shots of diarehia in the late afternoon and evening.
Snack: a small slice of the corned beef and four "Little Debbie" powder sugar donuts...
Dinner: a small steak, baked potatoe and boiled broccol
Lunch: yogurt with strawberries and at home, some corned beef between two slices of sour dough bread and a can of DP.
Dinner: From Arby's, a bacon, cheddar cheese, roast beef samwhich and some caffein free (but not sugar free, alas!) Root Beer.
Lunch: yogurt with strawberries and at home, a bierrock
Dinner: a Burger King double hamberger, fries and a medium Diet Coke...
Pre-Bed Snack: Water...
Lunch: At the Wichita Olive Garden, salad, speghetti with meat sauce and meatballs, bread sticks and a desert with choclate cake and choclate and choclate sauce.
Dinner: stewed beef on a baked potatoe and water
